I'm sorry for you all's loss. I'm working on my diet. My Grandmother is 95 years old. I grew up watching her eat every part of the pig "Litterally". When she was in her 70s she would have pain headaches and other bad ailments. The doctors did tests... but couldn't find anything wrong. One day my Granny said out of nowhere A VOICE spoke to her that said "Stop eating pork". My Granny said she never ate pork again... and ALL her ailments went away. Now she's 95 and can walk up a rather steep hill unassisted. I hope God Bless me and anyone reading this post with the same health.

Protein absorption in the elderly can be caused by diminishing supplies of hydrochloric acid or a lack of protease an enzyme that digests protein. The gallbladder may not function properly. I'm 74 and I sprinkle at meal time a hydrochloric acid capsule of 100 mg on my food and it is delicious... that also helps to absorb vitamin B12.

This is fascinating, but upsetting too. My Mum had colon cancer last year and most of the food served in the hospital was animal protein, loads of cheese, meat at every meal, and jelly. Since leaving the hospital every doctor and nurse she has seen has repeated over and over that she must eat lots and lots of protein (the implication being that you cannot get too much). Obviously she needs some extra protein as she heals and rebuilds but never once was a distinction drawn between animal and vegetable sources, in fact a vegetarian diet was frowned upon as 'inferior', and a vegan diet?!! Consequently Mum has switched from a largely vegan diet back to meat, dairy and eggs, just when it is most harmful to her body. This is criminal. Where are these medical professionals getting their information from? the meat and dairy industry?? what's going on here? One day this will be recognised as medical malpractice.

Hello Tammie! Usually, I'm into confronting people's view. But I can tell that you're quite upset about this and that it's connected with real serious stuff. So I have to tell you: this is misinformation plain and simple. From the meat putrifying in the stomach or proteins being converted to sugars and immediately being used instead of stored or the supposed sugar to hypertension link. All commonly debunked myths. And look it up online and it literally takes seconds. If veganism is indeed a great diet for a multitude of reasons ( if done right). But to support veganism by spreading misinformation about carbohydrates and proteins is deeply wrong. Ask yourself if it's really likely that all the millions of passionate doctors and all the other medical professionals all around the world who are serving animal proteins to their patients are completely ignorant or malicious. Either are preposterous given the amount of people we're dealing with here. These are the same kind of arguments you hear from anti-vaxxers or flat earthers. I.E almost all of the scientists and doctors in the world are wrong and only a very niche subset of people have it right. Again I'm not trying to insult you or demean you especially given that having a parent with cancer must be awful. I understand that for my perspective I see a person who is quite upset about things that I feel they've been lied to about. Perhaps try looking up these topics on websites with no clear bias. Avoid any websites with links to veganism or natural medicine or anything like that (not to say that these websites are innately bad but it's a bad idea to look up information on websites which possibly have an actual stake in the topic your looking up). Go to more mainstream, evidently legitimate sites. Or if you think you can handle it, go on PubMed and check the studies (thought it's very easy to misinterpret studies if you don't have a good amount of experience)

Yep, the west has protein overload! Kwashiorkor was galvanized by refined grains. Whole plant foods are the best!

26 minutes was brilliant when he said that if you are running a marathon, you need more fat. I don't have experience with this, but this is what the Taramuhara indians are legendary for. They consume a lot of chia seed before going on their epic runs.

This is excellent, thank you. I have long suspected that excess protein was a culprit in the development of diabetes. It is often blamed on either a high carbohydrate diet as I learned in paramedic school about 17 or 18 years ago and then more recently it seems to be being blamed on a high fat diet. But something told me that it was more likely to be excess protein, (especially animal protein), because I had begun to learn the damage that excessive protein in the diet can cause to the body. Everything was well explained in this documentary except for the mechanism of how excess protein leads to insulin resistance and/or type 2 diabetes. I really wish that that information would have been explained in more detail. Thank you for this presentation, I plan on sharing it with many people.

Hi. Thank you for all the informative info & taking the time to educate us all. I have a question regarding protein: Does a person w/cancer, MS, or fibromyalgia need to take in more protein, if so how much and what's the benefits to do so if taking in more than stated is useless bc we don't need it and more importantly taking in more than needed is asking for a disaster as stated? Thank you & God bless.

It's my understanding that the amino acid profile of food is what's most important and animal-based foods are heavy and sulfur containing amino acids, which usually is not good. So as long as you're eating plant-based whole foods and getting enough diversity you're getting more than enough protein, even if you have a pre-existing condition. But that is a good question because certain amino acids help with the repair so maybe there's a certain foods that would be more beneficial. I have heard eating beans and rice is a good way to get a nice balance of all of your essential amino acids.

@@VeganLinked He just debunked the beans + rice myth in the video. Unless the protein recycling of the body is somehow broke, it's not a concern.

@@chaos98GTVS yes, but the original post here seems to be trying to increase protein for a pre-existing condition, so this was all I could think of quick, lol
