Over the past 18 months, a series of experiences have activated my curiosity towards the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Through the exploration, one of the most enlightening experiences has been to tour Temple Open Houses. For my third Open House, I was given the chance to tour the St. George Utah Temple, a historic pioneer temple that started construction in 1871. It left a lasting impression as I continue to make sense of this nomad's journey, with several new questions surfacing.
In this video, I'll share takeaways from the rededicated St. George Utah Temple. It was a lot to process, so my hope is this video helpfully conveyed my reaction as best as possible.

If you have the chance, you should visit Old Nauvoo in Illinois. It's one of my favorite church history sites. Loved this video! Your ability to express your thoughts and opinions while also sharing the history and facts regarding the sites is amazing! I haven't been to the St George Temple before, and this really makes me want to visit. Thank you again!

I and my team did the woodwork on this temple. I was there for 2 years and the happy smiles were always present while we labored through the project. I didn’t work a single day without reflecting on how dedicated those pioneers were who built the building originally. Many of their ancestor’s worked on this renovation with us. We will keep u in our prayers

I went through the St George Temple in October and it was beautiful!!! I also got the opportunity to visit Pine Valley, north of there where my ancestors settled around 1861 and built a sawmill to add to the several already there. A lot of the wood in the St. George temple came from that valley. It was neat to see their grave markers in the cemetery there.

Lifelong member here, 76 years old. Your openness about your spiritual journey brings tears to my eyes. I applaud your caution. It speaks well of the seriousness you bring to the issue. Your positive experiences with the members are fairly typical, but we are far from perfect. As I look around my current neighborhood in Utah, I'm amazed at the goodness of my neighbors. However, they are not the source of my conviction that the Restoration really happened, they are just one wonderful side effect of it. The more I study the scriptures, especially with the help of faithful scholars who are all over the internet, the more I am astonished at its scope and grandeur. May the Lord continue to lead you in your spiritual journey. Much love.

30 years old here. Lifelong member as well. I am always in such awe and inspired by my neighbors around me. The goodness of the members of this church cannot be denied and though we all struggle with various weaknesses we are all united in our desire to love and better ourselves and everyone around us. I am so glad that I have my faith and community in such a crazy time of the world where so much evil infests the lands.

Hello from New Zealand… I love that you are cautious yet curious. Both are good - I was raised in one religion, which I loved, and before I became a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I looked at 12 other religions. I’m glad I did - it helped me on my journey to the restored Church of Jesus Christ. Ask lots of questions. Then pray for direction. I wish you well on your spiritual journey.

Yah I've only been a member since 2020, but I agree. Were no better then other Christians rather we are subject to that witness for which we are beholden too, unable to deny those experiences for which we have received. I have listened too his videos well before he happened upon the Latterday Saints, and the subject of the Cardinal for him has been a very personal One. I think its important to remember we have wheat, and we have Tares surrounding the Lamb, and it must be so until the Judgement. I wish I had his Temperate Child like curiousity, but somehow despite being very skeptical, I just knew even though I wrestled. Similarly the more I delved into Latterday Saint History I realized there was more to the story then it simply being as I was taught by Pastors because those pioneers were like me in 2020.

Thank you, David, for sharing your videos and for being so vulnerable. I have enjoyed each one. Something to remember is that God loves us more than we can even comprehend & He speaks to us individually. In my opinion, the most important thing a person can do is to communicate one on one with Him & follow what He prompts them to do. He puts thoughts into our heads & confirms truth with feelings of peace & assurance through His Spirit that those promptings are from Him. I know without a doubt He will answer your prayers, because it is obvious you are sincere & humble & He has said He will. I have received many witnesses of truth through the Holy Ghost, many times throughout my life & have seen many miracles. I also know the Lord's timing for answering prayers is important. I encourage you to get a witness for yourself of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ & to not just get baptized into a church again because anyone else tells you to. Go with what God tells you, & the dilemma will dissolve. I will pray for you to be able to recognize what He is saying to you. xo Sending love & best wishes brother.

After my dad passed, my aunt was struggling mightily. She was missing my dad and dealing with her own husband dying of cancer. Cardinals are relatively rare in her part of the country, but she was visited by a cardinal that landed on her hand for a few minutes before taking flight again. She and other members of the family took this as a heavenly blessing/messenger. Heavenly Father gives us messages in the manner that we can understand. Good luck on your journey. Listening to you, I feel a spirit of familiarity that I have felt a few other times with other people that I have never met, but I know spiritually.

You’re a modern pioneer. You’re just like Brigham Young. When he first heard of the restoration he was hesitant. Many of his family and friends embraced it quickly. He took his time. I believe he studied and followed the Saints for nearly two years before his conviction was sure and he was baptized. Like the parable of the sower you are wise. You don’t want to rush in only to face a scorching sun or choking weeds. Your ground is so very good. I’ve never seen a Protestant with such a humble heart demonstrate so much care and kindness to the Saints and our story. You love the Lord’s temple. You proceed with caution because you want to ensure your foundation is sure before you build up your spiritual temple. You are wise. You will yet receive revelation and vision the likes of which heretofore you have never before experienced. Thank you for all you do.

I just watched this on KZfaq and I can relate to what you’re saying. My background was a bit different but my journey took me to many Protestant churches before learning more about the LDS church. I became a Christian at 25 after being raised Jewish. I am going on 60 and found so much of the love of Jesus Christ consistently throughout the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints than in so many of the other churches that I previously belonged to. I’ve seen the love given to even estranged members of the LDS church which is how I happened upon this church. I became a member on July 19th, 2021 and am so thankful to Our Heavenly Father for leading me here. My faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ has grown so much more deeply and the love, care & support that the church extends to each other is truly how, I believe, that Our Savior set the example for us to follow. I am grateful every day for this and it has really changed my life. It took me a while to come to believe as they do, but I do see it so clearly now. Faith❤

David! Just finished watching this video. As always, I can tell you’re allowing the Spirit to guide your steps towards finding your spiritual “home.” So many of us who have joined the church come from other faith traditions and have been thru a similar journey and like you, had signs along the way that guided us “home.” I especially love your temple tour videos because it reminds me of when I first discovered the beautiful purpose they serve…Currently, I serve in my ward as the Temple and Family History Leader and teach a Temple Preparation class. All that we do in the temple points us towards our Savior, Jesus Christ! All I want to say to you as a brother in Christ is, ALWAYS let the Spirit of the Lord guide your steps… even when you don’t understand it… The Spirit will teach you and guide you! Stay open and humble to Him and He will keep revealing himself to you, line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little. And btw, there is great purpose in honoring our past, because it prepares us for what He has in store for us in the future! Love you Bro, thank you again for keeping it all VERY real!!! 👍🏼😇

David, you are doing the Lords work on this channel. I’ve followed you since before any of the LDS episodes and was hoping somehow you’d attend at least one ward. I was excited when you did and was impressed with your fair treatment. I’m sure it’s obvious by now that the LDS community loves you and recognizes the good you continue to do. Any church would benefit from having you in their membership. Any ward in the LDS faith would greatly benefit with you in its membership. For many LDS converts there is a huge lifestyle change. On my mission I literally saw a drunkard living in the gutter in Belfast give up all his sins to Jesus and commit to follow Him, that was a huge change for Billy. You on the other hand are already living the teachings of Jesus Christ and have taught many of us on here a lot of great lessons. In a world of darkness, you are a shining light. Lots wife did look back because she wasn’t ready to completely leave her old life behind. On the other hand, if you listen closely to the sacrament prayer next time you attend “ your ward” you’ll notice the word “ remember” is used. So yes, we are encouraged to look back to our savior Jesus Christ and remember Him. I believe that your foundation is much like the St George temple, it’s obviously been shored up and built very well. I love the advice that we get from the apostle Paul. 1 Theselonians 5:21 Prove all things, hold fast that which is good. Keep up the good work, we all wish the best for you and already looking forward to your next episode.

One of my favorite St George Temple stories - In 1877 when it was dedicated Brigham Young was displeased with how short the tower was, but the builders insisted it not be changed. Within a few months of dedication, Brigham passed. About a year later lightning struck the tower, and it burned. It was rebuilt to Brigham's specifications.

David! This was great. I wanted to share some similarities I have with you, in a way. My dad was the only one in his family who joined the church. He was in his mid-twenties when he joined and found out (or may have known) that his great-grandfather, Daniel Seaman, was a member of the early church. He had even been called by Joseph Smith to serve a mission to New York back in the 1830s. While in New York his wife became very ill and he had to take his family back to Canada, where she died. When he finally made his way back to Nauvoo it was after the martyrdom of Joseph Smith when all those splinter groups were taking off. He didn’t know who to follow and ended up going up to Beaver Island after Jessie Strang (the Strangites!) but found out after getting there that it wasn’t what he expected. He took a boat off the island of the Strangites and ended up founding Drummond Island, Michigan. Anyway, that family lost connection with the church until 4 generations later when my dad joined. And thanks to my dad, I was raised in the church and got to serve a mission! So I was the first in my family to serve a mission since the first Latter-day missionary of our family, Daniel Seaman. And my dad has been able to do all the temple work for his ancestors going back to Daniel Murray Seaman (and even further back). What an incredible blessing it has been! Also, I have had some significant spiritual events in my life symbolized by birds. Not to the extent that yours are, but I definitely recognized that the Lord was confirming a spiritual truth to me with the visit of birds. It’s not weird at all! Though, probably rare. I have loved your videos! Keep it up!😊😊😊

Hi David, My ancestors were called to settle the St George area and they helped with the temple. My Great grandparents lived just a few blocks from the temple, and we could see it from their home. When we visited, I always loved taking pictures of the temple through the trees from different angles. It's so strikingly white and beautiful. I love the contrast of the temple and the surrounding hills. The St George Temple is very important to me, and it was where I chose to receive my own endowment, even though I grew up in California. Family history is very important to temple work. Our ancestors do get our attention in various ways. I testify to you that they absolutely do. I suspect those cardinals are even more of a sign than you realize. Keep your mind open and your heart humble. The Lord is drawing you to the truth. Whether you ever choose to join the church or not, your experiences learning about it and studying will bless you so much. David - As my wife and I prepare to serve our sixth mission for the LDS church, I would like to make a few suggestions. It is more important for you to gain a spiritual testimony of the church than a physcial testimony. A physcial testimony is using all the facts and connecting all the dots that make the church true. A spiritual testimony is you have prayed and the spirit has told you the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Kingdom of God on the Earth. Something can come up and shake your physcial testimony that will bring doughts about the church. But if the spirit has confirmed that the church is true that can not be shaken. Many people gain physcial testimonies then fall away after something is brought up, but most of the time tis not true, and it shakes your faith. I don't know about seeing the cardinals. What if you joined the church then quit seeing cardinals would that mean the church must not be true. I would concider you to be a luck person to found the church and have spent the time learning more about it. Most people just shrug it off after the first introduction. You can try to find out about everything and study like crazy, talk to a ton of people and so on - or you can pray to find out that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Kingdom of God on the earth and everything else is true. Love watching your videos and the things you are finding. The Church is like the box that hold the peral inside. The church is great but you will find the Savior inside that church. I know the church is true, the Book of Mormon is true, there are Prophets and Apostles on the earth again, Russell M. Nelson is God's prophet on the earth today. In the Name of Jesus Christ Amen.

David, my take on Lot's wife is that she looked back yearning for what she was leaving behind, much like Laman and Lemuel who constantly complained that they should have stayed in Jerusalem and enjoyed their riches and life they left behind. On the other hand, one of the covenants we make with Jesus Christ is to always remember him. We of course remember Him in the present but we should remember Him in the past as well. Looking back to remember Him allows us to be grateful for His hand in our lives. and gives us greater hope and courage to move forward as we follow Him who is mighty to save. Good luck in this wonderful journey of yours. Don't be afraid of where God leads you. He is looking after you.

My ancestors helped build the st. George temple. So many of them gave up everything they had multiple times to come here and be free from religious persecution. I think, for any Christian, it is the Holy Ghost that works within us, through the grace of Jesus Christ, that creates the conviction that serves as a foundation for our faith. Whether that faith moves us to pray, serve those around us, or travel into the barren wilderness with almost nothing. Jesus Christ did all these things too. That spiritual rebirth enables all of us to take up our crosses and follow Him.

My dear brother, I've watched your journey for some time now. I would encourage you to continue attending your local Ward. Continue reading the Book of Mormon. Continue fervent prayer asking your Lord and Master if its true, opening your heart to the promptings of His spirit. Listening to the still small voice and the quiet burning in your bosom, that its true. Then move forward in your new found convictions. I wish you well!

Great video! I made the trek from Mesa/Phoenix AZ to see the St. George temple open house with my family and my mother-in-law, in a large SUV stuffed with items for my two married daughters, who were meeting us in St. George, who would be taking the items home with them to SLC, Utah. Halfway there, my vehicle broke down and had to be towed back to Mesa that night. We were stuck in Kingman with the only car rental place in town closing in five minutes. I took an Uber to the rental agency, only to get there 10 minutes after it closed. I pounded on the door and someone unlocked the door to talk to me. They only had one car left to rent, and it would barely hold just hold the four of us, but not our luggage or items for my kids to take home. Then someone in the back had heard my plight and said that maybe I could rent a large quad cap truck that someone had purchased from them in Mesa, AZ. I could rent it, take it to St. George for the weekend, and return it to Mesa by the next Tuesday. It was indeed a miracle! We were able to fit all of our luggage, the many items for my kids to take home, and the four of us all into this big truck, and complete our journey to St. George, although we arrived much later. The next day, we all went to the St. George Temple open house with my two kids and their husbands, and one friend. This was the second to the last Saturday of the Temple open house, and as you described, there were already hundreds of people there waiting to see the temple when we arrived. I agree, the temple blew me away, and I'm a lifetime member and have seen many temples and have been to many temple open houses. The attention to detail was mind-boggling! The ornate features and furniture were simply amazing. I saw several beautiful Victorian oil lamps with side oil tanks (LED bulbs). They had decorative glass and beautifully crafted bases, etc. I did a quick Google search for a similar lamp and saw one online that was very plain looking, but it sold for $1,000! You walk through the temple and try to wrap your brain around how in the world an impoverished people built such an amazing work of art in the pioneer era? Your video is very inspiring with the detail about the hardships of the pioneers and their quest of faith to be successful. Thanks so much for sharing!

So great hearing about your experiences and for the insights you've had with touring the St. George Temple. I loved that you shared the history of Wilford Woodruff and Founding Fathers. Curiously, the word "foundation" is even part of that story, as Wilford Woodruff is quoted as saying, " I will here say... that two weeks before I left St. George, the spirits of the dead gathered around me, wanting to know why we did not redeem them. Said they, 'You have had the use of the Endowment House for a number of years, and yet nothing has ever been done for us. We laid the foundation of the government you now enjoy, and we never apostatized from it, but we remained true to it and were faithful to God.' These were the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and they waited on me for two days and two nights." (Journal of Discourses, Vol.19, pp. 229-31; September 16, 1877) In the temple is a painting “That We May Be Redeemed” by Harold I. Hopkinson that depicts this history. Thank you again for your experiences along the journey of exploring faith communities.

David, we've enjoyed watching your journey & your insights in the process. When you mentioned what came to you as you toured the St George temple- the word foundation, I thought of this scripture from the Book of Mormon: "...Remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." ~Helaman 5:12 Best wishes to you!

My parents are coverts to the church, and husband joined in 2010 when he was in college. He has a Protestant background, took his faith very seriously, and was drawn into the history of the Church at the same time as he was reading the Book of Mormon, and he still loves church history. Loved the history about napoleon’s cannon (!) My husband said his favorite Brigham young quote took place with the building of the St. George temple: “We completed a temple in Kirtland and in Nauvoo; and did we not hear the bells of hell toll at the time we were building them? They did, every week and every day ... if you wish this Temple built, go to work and do all you can this season. Some say, ‘I do not like to do it, for we never began to build a Temple without the bells of hell begining to ring.’ I want to hear them ring again.” Prayers for you, God is mindful of you. You might have already gone to Nauvoo, but if not, we’d be happy to help out! We always go around the beginning of October, a beautiful time of year to visit. Thanks again for these videos!

Our bishop was named Floyd Weston, a man rooted in deep faith who was also a gifted, eloquent speaker much like yourself. He had a similar faith journey as a young man durning the war when he and his friends set out on a journey to find the church of Jesus Christ. He has a recorded talk on you tube called " 17 points of the true church " It's a great talk that I think you will enjoy. You are always in our prayers. Jay and Patsy

What you said today about looking to your past made me think.🤔 All the Lord asks is for you to remember. Remembering is looking at your past and what he has taught you. It is looking at how he has brought you out of captivity…much like Moses and the children of Israel. We need to let the hurt of the past go. We need to let traditions of the past go. We need to trust in him and his power to heal and lead us across our red seas and wildernesses to our promised land and liberty. We need to turn to him and follow him. We also need to do what he asks us to do. We don’t want to have empty lamps when the bridegroom comes. You are on an incredible journey. Thank you for being a peacemaker in this troubled world. Remember, the answer is always Jesus Christ. Let him teach and lead you to him.

David, I love your videos. Know that my wife and I will be praying for you. Thank you for asking for them. You may be interested in the history of the building of the Salt Lake Temple. Its construction began even before the St George temple. A massive foundation was built out of sandstone. But when Johnston's army moved into Salt Lake City during the Brigham Young era, the Saints buried it completely to hide any indication that it existed. Later on they removed some of the sandstone foundation that had become compromised and replaced it with solid granite-type rock. As an analogy, I think that foundations take a lot of work to develop, both for temples and for individual persons. I definitely value how you spoke about this in your video. Thank you for your exemplary care, honesty, and transparency. It is very uplifting. Lots of blessings!

Wonderful video. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I, too, was skeptical when I met the missionaries and eventually, 6 months later, was baptized. It all seemed too good to be true. The Spirit gave me a powerful witness yet I kept waiting for something weird or negative to be revealed to me but after about 10 years, I realized there was nothing bad about this gospel or the people to reject it. I wish you all the best in your spiritual quest. Remember to keep focused on Jesus. He's the center of it all. Take care. I'm anxious to see your next video.

There was so much light and goodness exploding from your video. Your heart is humble and genuine. Thank you David for seeking after the light. It is so neat to hear your honest thoughts and reactions as you learn about different faith practices. The temple (House of the Lord) is such a blessing to members who love this priceless gift. It is a place of hope, peace and love. Just the other day I was weighed down with heartbreaking news of a family member and knew I needed and added measure of peace. I went to the temple and actually felt like I was walking 3 feet off the ground once I entered the Lord’s house. I found myself smiling from ear to ear and the worries, fears and troubles of the world were literally swallowed up with peace. (Something I could not do for myself.) I was reassured that The Lord is aware and mindful of my fears. That He loves all of His children and will deliver us through the hard stuff as we exercise faith in Him. A dedicated temple has power and added strength. Our Lord is in these holy places. Praise be to our Almighty King. Thank you for sharing your heart. May the spirit of the Lord attend your questions and sincere desires. 🙏🏻☀️

@52churchesin52weeks The restored gospel of Jesus Christ is a beautiful thing. So many unanswered questions come full circle and make sense when viewing the whole picture. Many negative things about the church come from individuals picking up one piece of a 1,000 piece puzzle, and they can't figure out any rhyme or reason to that piece. But once the pieces around that pice are placed are out together, the piece is turned different than expected and fits perfectly and makes absolute sense. I am grateful for the faith we share in the Atonement of our Lord Jesus Christ. The persecution is a fulfillment of prophecy. It's a sign of the truthfulness gospel. "Blessed are they that are persecuted for My sake. " " Forgive them, for they know not what they do. " if they truly understood that we are all children of God and Loving God and Jesus Christ as well as loving our fellow men even if we don't agree, is more important than belittling others due to different perspectives and understandings and trying to prove others wrong.
