This thing is awesome and I am very thankful that I had the opportunity to be part of the beta list for this throttle. I hope to get ahold of one very soon. I agree with your comments about usefulness being primarily for small shelf layouts, a yard, or perhaps an industrial location with a lot of switching and there isn't much mobility required for the operator.

Never thought I would like this but at the NMRA show today I played around with it for about 5-10 minutes with a friend and I actually ended up wanting one. It's fun to mess around with and makes it feel like running a train not turning knobs and pushing buttons.

Thanks for this review. I notice that your emergency stop wasn't a prototypical emergency stop. Can you alter the settings so that when the brake lever is pushed right over you get a realistic emergency stop? Preferably complete with emergency stop brake sound but I don't think decoders do emergency braking sound yet ... or do they? I know you can adjust brake settings but I notice DCC systems like to make available the sudden stop and I'm just wondering if the system will actually allow for NO sudden stop when the lever's pushed right over.

does it have progressive braking meaning you can apply brakes gradually to slow down the train/loco?

i got 2 friends with the protothrottle how do all 3 of us run on the same LNWI do we need separate addresses what would happen if we had the same address on all our throttles?

You only need one receiver. Make sure the throttles all have the same base address as the receiver but the throttle ID must be different. That's how its done.

I've read and watched several videos on this throttle and it looks very interesting. However, at the beginning of the video, you held up something you called "just another knob throttle". But I've never seen a throttle that looked like that. What kind is it?

That is the controller for the ESU CabControl System. It's a fairly new system.

It is a ESU cab controller. It is great device out of the box. It has 7 amps right out the box and it has its own wifi

It's a nice product if you have lots of money for model railroad "toys". I think it's a bit to big too. That being said, I can think of a couple of practical applications for the Proto Throttle; for people with limited use of their fingers do to medical reasons and for visitors to your model railroad (if you can drive a car you can use this throttle) Chuck RVRR

Sadly as I live in the UK, it won't be available here. I can't agree with some of the comments, the engineer of an SD40 can't change signals or switches, he just drives the train realistically and that's what this does.

Andy Knott True but in a session with two man crew, that would allow for the conductor to throw switches while the engineer runs the throttle.
