I still remember the many days I walked up with the wagon full of kool-aid, cups and ice. Most of the time I went up, drinks for the construction workers were free. I am a little bit sad that the structure is needing to be changed. However having been a demolition expert in the military and knowing that temples 50 years ago could not handle the levels of earth quakes that are coming our way; this needs to be remodled. Round structures are very fulnerable.

The more people who faithfully enter these sacred edifices and make the covenants available there, the less suffering there will be in the world. Temples are likely the most profitable investment currently possible for us mortals.

Technology has changed significantly from 1972! Large areas were dedicated to typists recording temple ordinances-these areas are no longer needed and not easily converted to ordinance rooms, etc. Yes, I will miss the Provo Temple - it is the temple where I was endowed and later sealed to my wife. Remember, it is Jesus Christ under the guidance of our Heavenly Father who leads His Church! Glen M.

So much symbolism in the old design. Of course that was erased when they painted the spire white.

True. And the new cookie cutter designs symbolize absolutely nothing. The lack of respect for our history shown through the desecration of both the Ogden and Provo temples is apalling. By employing this sort of mindset, one might go ahead and raze the Kirtland temple now that we have acquired it, and replace it with something more modern - what with it being obsolete and all.

It's only being redesigned because Horizon Zero Dawn has a post-apocalyptic version of it, and the church doesn't want them to be right about how it will look in a thousand years, after the apocalypse takes place. It's sort of a "Ha, we got you Playstation game! Now what?" I'm petty sure the game designers are waiting for the church to finish the new one so they can patch the game with the redesign.

Why was the Ogden deteriorating in the first place? Assuming the Provo is also deteriorating? Were they not built correctly in the '70's? Seems like a waste of time and resources unless it isn't safe. Is it an earthquake construction issue? Are the other temples constructed around this time safe or are they headed to be tore down too? I was hoping there would be more answers to these questions. The new one is going to look like all of the rest that are being built in my opinion.

Nobody should care what the cookie jar looks like so long as the cookies inside are good. We do not worship a building, we worship God and this is a tool to serve him. It is not the building but what the building represents and the work completed therein.

Wait, so it was demolished because of less than high quality construction? I thought that temples were supposed to be built with only the highest quality materials and construction practices. Look at the Salt Lake temple and others built in the 1800s like Logan and Manti. Those temples have stood the test of time, and they're objectively the most beautiful temples the church has built.

The temples are used every day, so it's not being "thrown around". God's work of salvation is the very reason they are constructed. Also, I wouldn't pay tithing out of guilt. I've been unemployed and I pay my tithing with gratitude.

@@troygstottyou’re right. There’s no shortage of critics! I’ve noticed that those that criticize something cherry pick certain things to justify their criticism. The first thing I thought was the safety aspect of the “issues”! Ie: the Salt lake temple foundation was strengthened and the Tabernacle rafters were also refurbished/strengthened. I’m sure it wasn’t a whimsical thought when it was decided to demolish the Provo Temple. Best to be safe than sorry!

No need for temples, Jesus resides in our human temples, temples made with hands are no longer needed, the bible is the truth and Jesus died for us, and he created a path to the kingdom of God, Jesus is sufficient, he is all we need.
@troygstott
@troygstott Ай бұрын
Do you have a biblical reference for that? Just days before He died, Jesus chased moneychangers from the temple to show reverence for His father's house. The keys provided on the Mount of Transfiguration are directly related to why we still need temples. Also, the atonement is not just for souls that lived from his life forward, it goes back in time as well. So, temples are always needed. I'm not sure why temples would suddenly be obviated by the crucifixion?
