Have you ever wondered what the inside of the Washington D.C. Temple looks like? Now's your chance. The iconic six-spired monument to millions, a landmark on the Capital Beltway for a half century, is now open to the public. The Washington D.C. Temple underwent a major renovation starting in 2018. Now you can view the beautiful rooms and learn about their functions.

I 1st saw this Temple in the Summer of 1976 when I was hitch hiking to Texas. A man in a van picked up my brother in law & I, as we drove past the Temple I stared at this beautiful edifice. I told the driver that I would go there some day. He looked at me and laughed (I had shoulder length hair, faded & patched blue jeans and a head band). Time went by and on Dec. 25th 1977 I was Baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The following February I entered this beautiful Temple with a group of Single Adults from Northern Pennsylvania. I returned several times for about 2 years. In May 1980 I again returned to this wonderful building prior to serving a two year mission in Northern California. In 1986 I was sealed in this Temple and worked for nearly 18 months as a member of the Safety/Security Team. It is still one of my favorite Temples.

@@jaeboogie2786 Being SEALED in the Temple is our way of saying that we are married for All Time and All Eternity. We will remain married even after death! My husband and I were Sealed in the Atlanta Georgia Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for all time and all eternity. He passed away in February. He was actually sealed to his parents as a young boy in the Washington D.C. Temple. That means that he will be their son forever.

Our entire Animal Care Specialist class used to go on our runs right by the Temple. I had never seen one before. I will never forget it. We were chanting/singing/calling cadence to a song we had made up about the bones/systems from head to tail for veterinary tech school and we were on some body part and I looked up and asked what in the world that was! Our instructor said, it's the Washington D.C. Temple. This was long ago in the 80's when the veterinary techs for the Army trained near Walter Reed. I had zero idea that 14-15 years later I would be going thru the ceremonies inside in the Houston Temple for the first time after a year of joining. It was the most beautiful thing, the peace inside is amazing. I would love to get married there.

My husband and I were sealed on April 28, 2000. When we first got to the temple I had to touch the outside wall to make I wasn't dreaming that I truly was in this Holy House. In the early morning I kept waking up just to look at the temple. At 4:30 I woke up and saw the Angel Moroni bath in white light. My heart sang. On our temple sealing anniversary we go to the temple. I would love to go back later this year while we are on the east coast.

As a 14-year-old in McLean Ward, I and my family attended the original open house and sat in the Solemn Assembly room during the dedication in 1974. I remember the temple donation drives to collect around $4M as our temple districts ‘offering’. What a blessing to have returned to this area 35 years after we left and be able to participate in its second open house and rededication. This temple is special to me and my wife as both of us took out our endowments here and were sealed. No other temple matches this one in majesty.

I lived in DC in the 80's. I remember the impact this temple had when rounding the corner of the beltway at night and seeing such a nearly unbelievable building, as if suspended in space above the trees. Little did I know that forty years later two young missionaries would knock on my door bringing me the gift of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you for sharing your very special experiences!

I lived in Indiana- we were converts, and my parents were sealed here. I remember all the ways we tried to raise $- fish fry’s,parking lot attendants for the fairgrounds, pizza sales traveling around iN and Ohio county fairs selling ice cream and elephant ears, and had a large family assessment to pay-we loved that temple so much, mom& dad spent a whole week there after it was dedicated. I was sealed to them in Provo, took my own endowment out in Mesa and was sealed to my husband in San Diego (the week it was dedicated). When I was young I had a goal to visit every temple, but the Lord is building them too fast-His kingdom is rolling faster than I can. Oh well, that’s one goal I will gladly modify.

On September 12, 2001, I entered this temple for an endowment session. The day before, I was wearing my military uniform and we still felt like our nation was under attack. I had planned to go to the Pentagon on 9/11, but changed my mind that day. One in my chain of command was killed when the Pentagon was struck, and the local fire department I had worked with responded there. Not long afterward, I would be doing research at Ground Zero, staying in Manhattan with my family. But on 9/12/2001, as I entered the Washington D.C. Temple and saw that magnificent mural--with the toppling towers and smoke with those in despair and confusion in the foreground, and with the Savior standing near the Washington D.C. Temple painted on the other side and those to His right gazing upon him in adoration--I was amazed because that painting appeared to represent the moment in time we were experiencing! It appeared to have just been painted! As we prayed in the temple that day, I knew I was standing in a holy place (see D&C 45:32). I have many wonderful memories of this temple--and wish we could be there for the open house!

You must behave in the House of the Lord. My friend & I was doing a session when I noticed I can make the seat squeak. Oh no this can’t be happening & I need to be reverent focusing on the instructions but the little kid in me was focused on the squeaky seat. My friend finally heared it & knew what I was doing. He hits me & we start laughing. The Lord wasn’t pleased with me & He had that seat fixed in a hurry. After laughing I tried to make it squeak again & it wouldn’t. It was as if someone on the other side of the veil sprayed it with WD40. I fully paid attention & was more reverent after that. I know it’s the Lord’s House & it is in order.

I'm reminded of the story plot of the old black and white movie classic "the bishops wife". The angel said to the bishop of this great cathedral church they were trying to build....that the cost of just its roof sure could build a whole bunch of little roofs for the poor. 😔 We, our bodies, are the temple of the Lord Jesus Christ. He lives in those who are his. 1 Corinthians 3:16,17

I understand that many may feel that way but just as the children of Israel were asked to give their very best for the Tabernacle and then the Temple we do the same today. The church also gives millions of dollars in aid around the world and church members give of their time and talent to local community service.

@stacyjobe6697 2 жыл бұрын
@@kathleencoles1749 I also understand that, taking care of the poor and the voiceless is our first priority, but the best we can give is our hearts, everything else is just works. The word says our works are as filthy rags. We are different than the Israelites, they had not yet had their sins atoned for by their Messiah. So the Father put great emphasis on works and the importance of the temple for all to see. But now that the Messiah our Savior has finished the works with his blood atonement, we are to Iive by faith. Faith that he is all we need. We are the temple. He is in us and we are in him and together we are in the Father; by faith, not by a how impressive we can be. He is not impressed. It is by the fruit of living holy lives with our bodies, his temple; the fruits of the spirit that he indwells in. And these fruits flow from us to all around us at every moment and every day to all who we are able to help and comfort.

" I love to see the Temple. I'm going there someday. To feel the Holy Spirit to listen and to pray. For the temple is a holy place. A place of love and beauty. I'll prepare myself while I am young. This is my sacred duty. I love to see the Temple. I'll go inside someday. I'll covenant with my Father. I'll promise to obey. For the temple is a house of God where we are sealed together. As a child of God I've learned this truth - a FAMILY IS FOREVER " . Janice Kapp Perry

Absolutely stunning, as a house of our Heavenly Father should be! But the house pales in comparison to the works preformed there, everlasting, as are we. ....

I didn't see anywhere the iconic giant painting at the entrance with Christ at the center represented with people on both sides. Has it been taken down ?

Hi, I too noticed that, along with a few other minor changes, like no more mural on the ceiling of the celestial room, different chandeliers as well as no more different colored sealing rooms. I asked one of the tour guides about these changes and the answer about the mural was interesting. He was helping with some of the renovations and the original painting was still there 2 weeks prior to the limited open house which occurred about a week prior to the general open house. Then one day he arrived to see the entire painting was gone, with this newer one in its place. I hope that they bring it back as it is a great reminder that choices always bring about consequences. A slightly funny thing was that no one had informed them that this was going to happen, so the morning security shift actually went into panic mode, thinking someone had broken in the night before and stolen the painting. Regarding the older chandeliers in the celestial room, I fondly remember hearing the light 'tinkling' sound of the crystals whenever the HVAC system turned on, it added to the serenity of the room.

Are there any plans to expand building on the property for non-temple related facilities?

To me that Temple is going to change many hearts 💕. The Gospel of Jesuschrist is for everyone. All son"s and daughters of our Heavenly Father. Many families are going to accept what is required for them to become an Eternal loving family. Jesuschrist give His own life for us so we can repent and do our best to qualify to go to Heaven and live in harmony with our Heavenly Father and Mother. And with our ancestors. Let's picture that in our minds and hearts 💕 and I invite all of you to listen to the teachings of our Savior our Lord Jesuschrist and see the happiness enter in our lives. Love ❤️ our neighbors and serve as many as we can to uplift the one that suffer.the one that is alone. Let's be tools in the hands of our Heavenly Father and Jesuschrist and see how we can help change misery for Happiness. Let's be Faithful and do our small contribution. I Love ❤️ You even if we don't know who we are. We are Brothers and sisters with Heavenly Parents. Have a wonderful year.

My parents were sealed in this Temple. We were planning on coming before the world fell apart. In the meantime my father passed away. We will never be able to see it all together in this life.

Hi Lindsay, what a blessing that your parents are sealed in the Temple. We're so sorry for your loss. We know comfort and healing can come through prayer and by relying on Jesus Christ at this difficult time. He loves you and can mend your heart and give you peace. www.comeuntochrist.org/beliefs/purpose-of-life/4-ways-to-cope-with-the-loss-of-a-loved-one?lang=eng?cid=42001274

That’s the same question my Aunt gave when she went to her first open house. She was upset that the money didn’t go help others in need. I wasn’t there & heard about it but it dosen’t matter how much they cost because the Lord comes first in are lives. He’s the one that commanded for Temples to be built & He over sees it. There’s a lot of neat experiences shared with these sacred Temples from the builders & those who work there. Just look up the history on any Temple to read about spiritual experiences that took place. I have a very strong testimony of Temples & the importance of them through the Savior’s Love for us all. What matters most is how much we are truly blessed from having Temples & it dosen’t matter about the money. Yes I have paid money to help build theses Temples & I’ve been very blessed. I use to not pay tithing but once I did I was blessed beyond measure to know that this is the Lord’s work.

Whatever the cost is, the value that the temple brings to our community justifies building it
