Sounds like that data is shooting only 1 day matches. Generally with 2 day matches it’s 190-220 rounds for a match. Then there’s the train up as you stated may burn 30-40 rounds at that. You did a great break down. Hope to see you out in the range bud.

HI DWW! Yep, one day matches and agree that 2 day matches are gonna increase that number a lot. Some of my buddies were "mad" with me, showing them how much they're really spending on the sport! Thanks for watching my friend!

While the price and use will vary for every shooter and everyone will have slightly different ideas of use or acceptable wear/tolerance overall this video is very interesting. Breaking things down by the numbers into categories that people don't often consider helps puts costs into perspective and also gives reason for consideration to justify other costs. Once you see the numbers broke down it's certainly a bit surprising than you think. Thanks for doing this video it is a great eye opener and great tool for shooters to use for getting an realistic of costs of the ammo in the sport.

Thanks for the kind words Jory! It is shocking to see how expensive it can be over time, but like other sports/hobbies, I'm sure if you break them down you'd be just a shocked. Thanks for watching my friend!

Hi Chad! Hope it helps you make some good decisions...I want people to know what kind of costs they're getting into no matter which way they go. I'm seeing people pay a lot of money for the rifle and scope only to be shocked when it comes time to purchase the ammo. Thanks for watching my friend!

@@The4GunGuy Very informative for sure! Got into reloading as soon as I got back from deployment. I watched your videos all last year when I had the time, learned a lot. Thank you

It is way more expensive here in Australia for US-made products, components and reloading gear. Added to the cost is the high import tax and the extra the country distributor adds. Stops many participating in competitions and just stay with low-volume plinking at the range.

Hi Muschka! Yeah, I've heard that from other geographies as well and it makes the sport even harder to get into. Thanks for watching my friend!

Here's what i decided was a good option. I shoot 6.5 creed and 6XC. Both have good factory offerings. Berger for 6.5 creed uses lapua brass and 6XC from David Tubb uses peterson brass. Both are around $2 per shot. I figured break in the barrel with factory and reload them since now i'll have quality fireformed brass. Seems to be a win win imo.

You know Force, I really should have included that option in the video because a lot of shooters are doing just that. Great point and I really appreciate the input and your viewership my friend!

How many reloads per piece of brass did you factor in?
@The4GunGuy
@The4GunGuy 4 ай бұрын
Hi User! I factored 15 reloads but I should get upwards of 20 since I don't load 'hot'. Thanks for watching my friend!

I've really been thinking of trying to get into this but it seems like it's a rich person's sport and that the average person like me will never be able to afford it.
@The4GunGuy
@The4GunGuy 8 күн бұрын
Hi JMC! It does seem expensive, and honestly, is fairly expensive. I just bought a new set of golf clubs, middle of the road and 2 year old models and for everything except the putter, I dropped $2k. I was thinking about it on the way home and thought, wow, for what I spent on 13 good clubs, would only get me a decent scope for PRS. From a event cost perspective, I think I said that a centerfire match would run around $185 - $225 depending on ammo cost. That's about three rounds of golf to one PRS match. A 22LR match would run you about $75 - $90 per match, so much cheaper. Sorry I'm drifting here, but short answer is yep, it's not a cheap sport, BUT, I think if you go the 22LR route, it's a lot cheaper and you have just as much fun. Thanks for watching my friend!

@@The4GunGuy Oh I'm going to continue watching. Even going back for your older episodes. Let's say I go into this starting with rimfire. Do you have videos on doing that? Sorry, I haven't checked yet. Would it be a smooth progression eventually to get into center fire? Or if I stay in rimfire, how far does that go? I mean, are there championship matches in that as well? I guess I'm saying that, if I got hooked on this, I would want to become pretty competitive eventually.
@The4GunGuy
@The4GunGuy 7 күн бұрын
@@jmc041071 Yes, rimfire is very competitive with national events. First, go to www.precisionrifleseries.com and for no other reason than to get great discounts on equipment, sign up for their lowest plan, which is rimfire. For $45 for the year, you get great discounts from sellers (see their memberships & rewards listing), which will save you hundreds or even thousands on equipment. I get nothing for telling you to join, I just tell everyone I can for the discounts they get. Then, look up the PRS matches on the site and see which region you fall under and the matches for that region throughout the year. Also, look at the rules so you understand what rifle/scope combo you'll want to look at for the division you want to shoot (production, open, etc...). 22LR is used to get into centerfire because it teaches you the process, positions, movement, wind, etc... at a reduced price, plus, you don't have to get into reloading! Hope this helps.

@@The4GunGuy yes that helps a lot! Thank you! I appreciate any info you can give me. Sorry if i ask a question that you've answered already in a video. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at all the info im finding and i think I'm getting way ahead of myself and need to slow down a bit lol. I'm in east Texas. Point, TX. I've been on the website of the club or range that you use I believe....looks like it's about 3 hours or so from me. I will definitely get on that site you mentioned and see if there are matches closer to me. I really want to watch a match then later maybe get a loner rifle like you mentioned and try it out. I bet I'm going to get hooked on it as you've said. I've been scrolling through your videos, I saw you moved on from the Tikka 22lr. I'm going to be on a budget. Say 1200-1500. I'll try for more by the time I can purchase but I'm just thinking for right now. Would you still consider the Tikka or are there others now that someone like me should research?
