In this video we take a close look at PRS DGT model guitar from 2012 and some of the work that's been done to it prior to my acquisition. We'll take a close up look at the condition of the guitar, frets, bridge, electronics and I take some time to learn more about this guitar on the Paul Reed Smith website as there have been some small changes to the electronics and features over the years. I'll also measure the neck specs and frets to share that as well.
I also pose some questions to the viewers and would like to hear opinions on what work should be done to the guitar for the next person who owns it. Should I fix some of the finish issues? Should I swap the pickups to something else? What should the wiring function be? When stock the hum bucking pickups are coil cut when lifting up the tone knob. I'm also considering making the new pickups coil cut with their specific volume and doing a phase reversal on one of the pickups to get the "Peter Green" tone.

I am a PRS fan. The guitars were a revelation to me, it took me years to get into them and now that I have, I don't play my other guitars. I am also a fan of Lace pickups. They have some very specific applications but some of them sound really incredible. Just be aware some of them like the alumitones are supposed to be hooked up to 250k pots, so the pots on that might not be the factory ones and the wrong rating for your new set. Also from experience, be very mindful of what finish damage you do choose to touch up. The finishes are very very thin and it's easy to sand right through them also also, 2000s PRS cloud in the finish a bit so not uncommon

Hey bbmade! Thanks for the share on my DGT vid. My vote would be for the Imperials though forgoing the split on the neck (I agree with Andrew below on the split neck tone) would be missed. I have three DGT's and a custom 22 that they made with a maple DGT neck (2010 short run). I'd say the knobs are standard. I laughed pretty hard when you said, "I just said Wiggle stick three times." Excellent. You can get good ones aftermarket on ebay. I use a David Gilmour legnth bar I got from somewhere there and like the control it gives me. Subbed to your channel. Dig what you're doing here! Hi bbmade. Very nice video!! FYI, the first production models had a shorter heel, I think they switched to the longer heel either in ‘93 or in ‘95 when they moved to the current factory. Anyway you won’t feel it in both cases. Thanks again for the video!

Pedro López-Belmonte - You’re right I didn’t really notice the long heel when I played that guitar. It doesn’t seem necessary from a stability/durability standpoint so I don’t know why they do the long heel. It’s ugly as heck but maybe it’s a durability thing in PRS’s mind. Who the heck am I to say it’s wrong? No one!

Interesting video. I'd be inclined to take it back as close as possible to factory spec's. In terms of the neck-heel... the earlier PRSi - pre-1991 ? - had a much smaller heel. The larger heel doesn't feel uncomfortable to me, but I've owned an 85 and a 91, and they were definitely more comfortable. The DGT definitely shouldn't be buggered-around with !

Thank you Peter. I’m working on the guitar and the next video and there’s a lot of work being done to this guitar. I’m the end it will be a great player guitar. Shame about the condition of the finish but everything else will be top notch.

The original pickups are fantastic. The neck can be a little woofy but the split neck is one of the best The knobs look non standard The cap to the switch is a big yellow thing, that one looks non standard The resistors on the switch don't do a whole heap. They're supposed to minimise the volume drop when engaging the coil split/tap

Thanks for the comment. I wish this guitar had the original pickups but I do have some Lollards Imperial’s that will be going in and I’ll be putting in al new controls. Hoping to get a part two video out in the next few weeks.
