WRITTEN RECIPE:
➜ Ingredients:
40g dried prunella vulgaris
15 cups water
Sugar, to taste (rock sugar, brown candy or granulated sugar)
➜ Instructions:
1) Soak prunella vulgaris in water for a few minutes, then rinse off impurities. A handful at a time, squeeze any excess water from the prunella vulgaris, strain and set aside.
2) Transfer 15 cups of water into a large pot, then add the washed prunella vulgaris.
3) Using a spoon or ladle, gently press the prunella into the water. Cover the pot with a lid then bring to a boil over medium high heat.
4) Once it comes to a full boil, remove the lid, set the heat to low and allow tea to simmer for 30 min.
5) Optionally, add sugar to taste and stir until dissolved.
6) Serve the tea hot or allow to cool, refrigerate and enjoy it chilled!

thank you for sharing! I believe this is what I had in Hong Kong over 10 years ago and this drink really works. I live in a suburban area. so when I went to Hong Kong for vacation, I have gotten sick due to the change in climate and pollution. my throat was sore and dry. I stumbled upon a Herbal Tea shop on my way to Ocean Park, so I bought a bottle to drink. Amazingly by midday I was feeling a lot better and next day my throat was back to normal. I always wanted to know what the herbal drink I had was call. my cantonese is terrible and I can't read Chinese character. I appreciate your recipe. I will make time this weekend to find this ingredient.

Hi Maggie, Thank you so much....my parents used to make this tea when I was a child to help me "cool down" due to "yeet hay" (heat). For years I didn't know what the name of the herb was until today! Finally, thanks to you I now know that it's called "Prunella Vulgaris". Wow! So liberated right now. Thank you so so much! 🥰😄

My used to instill in our minds that it is important to maintain a balance between yit hay and leung. But when a new baby is born the mom should eat more yit hay items to regain their strength. Her favorite recipes were vinegar pork feet and chicken in rice wine. I used to look forward to welcoming newborns so that we could have my favorite pork’s feet vinegar. I was surprised that the Chinese would refer to the front feet as hands. I can relate because there is a difference between the front and the back feet. I have had that tea in your recipe in the past and do believe it does help in certain circumstances. Thanks for reminding me how to make it your way.

Hi Casey, sorry to hear that! Did you go the sugar-free route? If not, you can add some sugar to balance it out, use less prunella or add more water, to preference.
