Tree looks great after the pruning. Cool Pomelo with a nice moss floor in your little forest.

That is one nice big Lemon tree. Hopefully flowers and fruit for you later in the year after the pruning. Cool tree.

Looks like the basement way of overwintering is working out great. The semi-cascade lemon tree has some nice curves on the trunk!

Asking someone who does bonsai why'd they prune a tree that's looking good is like asking a bodybuilder why they're working out when they're already muscular 🤣

Love seeing someone work with more unusual species like citrus, you inspired me to start my own probably lemon bonsai :D I think you're missing a Jaboticaba bonsai, very common tree for bonsai in the tropics ;)

What an adorable tree, Nigel, love it! I left my poor Chinese Elm bonsai at my parents' house while I was vacationing, and let me tell you, poor Johnny was not happy! Quick question for you (and forgive my ignorance because I have no idea what I'm doing): do you generally let the foliage grow out like that before pruning, or should I prune while there is no foliage -- i.e. a bare tree? What difference does it make?

awww such nice trees. Mine are only about 20 cm by now. Started them in december in the darket corner my living room under grow lamps and moved them out on the tiny balkony I got at the end of may (still getting cold at nights in germany sometimes in may and even june at nights). Its facing east and only getting good morning sun because its roof still the littles tries seem to slightly got sun burned in the first couple of days at the very tip and its very tiny leaves. Since then they seem to have adepted to the sun and keep growing dispite the burn. I though these trees could handle the sun here very easily. Ideas?

I have a 15+ year old Meyer lemon tree that I've never repotted. I've not been heavily invested in making it a "bonsai", but I've mostly pruned it as such over the years to where it might qualify. Last year the fruit was so heavy on one side that it made the tree lean onto the edge of the pot. It flowers in my greenhouse late January - early February. When would be the best time to pull it out, root prune it, and repot it? Had a bad scale infestation a few years ago and hacked it back to nubs then to control it and now realize that would have been the best time, but wondering when the "next" best time to do a bonsai style repot might be. Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA here.

You talked about hard pruning on lemon trees. I was wondering. Have you ever fully defoliated a citrus? if so, how did it respond?

With cirtus what is the best way to propagate? I received a cutting from a friend. Not sure what it is, it has thorns, and I put it in water. Will it root?
