Wow, how big is the tunnel? I suppose it is advantageous to keep the rain off. I will have to hope for good weather as the fruit ripens. You obviously get plenty of insects in there to do the pollinating if you are getting heavy crops.

My polytunnel is 'home made' from scaffold bars, 48mm diameter blue water pipe for the hoops, it is 15ft x 8ft. I call it my 'orchard house' (as in Thomas Rivers of Sawbridgeworth the fruit nurseryman). Yes I get plenty of pollinating insects - I leave the doors open at each end all year round, except as the cherries are ripening, otherwise the birds will go into the tunnel to eat the cherries - even when green and still under ripe. The 'Early Rivers' are very tasty and very large dark red cherries. I do have a couple of 'Morellos' outdoors, so I might have to net them or drape fleece over them, however I have noticed that the birds seem to leave the sour cherries alone more.

The UFO approach originated somewhere 'over there' (Washington State if I remember correctly) - I think it's a bit unusual here in the UK but hopefully allows them to be kept small so potentially quite suitable for a garden :)

I think it is relatively new (15 years or so). It was developed in the US for high density commercial orchards so not something gardeners would ordinarily come across - we tend to stick to a handful of basic and long established forms. There are many different pruning and training regimes though, and lots of research and trials going on, but they’re not so often translated into the garden; I thought it might be fun to have a go at it here, albeit in a more compact version.
