This PlayStation 2 wouldn't read DVD games even after a new a laser was fitted. PlayStation 1 and Blue CD PS2 games played fine on the old and the new laser.

I bought a Factory sealed Ps2 slim a few months back. Working absolutely perfect until i changed out a silver disc game for a different silver disc game. Now it only plays Blue discs. I've opened it up and everything appears fine however, i haven't checked the laser resistances as of yet.

That is strange that it suddenly just stopped, normally a laser will get weaker over time if its dying. That kind of makes me think something like this has happened, it may be worth trying with a different laser just to rule that out.

I’m going to order a ribbon cable, I’ve had my PS2 fat around 7 years now and I just plugged back in for the first time in a few months because a friend gave me games. Safe to say I was more than confused when I opened a sealed, unscathed silver disc and it wouldn’t read it, just the blue disc they gave me. This hopefully will solve my issue, since, as I was cleaning the lens for the laser, I noticed that the ribbon cable looked a little burnt! I’ll leave an update here, thanks for the save!

Definitely worth trying it with a new ribbon cable. Normally when the laser is dying its the other way round (will play silver and not blue games)

Same problem. Can you do a video on how you changed out the ribbon cable?

Hi, I don't have a PS2 Slim I could make the video with at the minute but if you check out my How to change PS2 Slim Laser video it nearly all the same steps.

I replaced the laser on my slim about a month ago and I just realized that it reads PSOne games and DVD PS2 games just fine, BUT it won't read blue-backed PS2 games. Any ideas?
@EasyConsoleFixes9 күн бұрын
Normally the Laser's stop reading blue backed discs when they are starting to die. What you describe is normally the first signs the laser is failing.

@@EasyConsoleFixesbut this is a new laser.
@EasyConsoleFixes9 күн бұрын
@@arturomail I know it's a new laser but most times I change a laser it's because the console is doing what you described. Was the console reading any discs before the laser was changed. You could check the potentiometer on the laser with a multi-meter to make sure it is set to the right resistance.

The same thing happened with my friend's 90001...it's a late model ray doesn't work with Free McBoot

I don't have much experience with McBoot, it's something I keep meaning to look at more but haven't got around to it.

@@EasyConsoleFixes I don't have that PS2 so I can't really describe what's going on with it but I do know I did replace the ribbon cable since the older one ripped accidentally when trying to swap cables with a silver 90001 model that does work with Free McBoot

Remove the soilder ball from the side of the anti shock resistor on the left

Hi, the solder blob had already been removed, there was slight damage on the ribbon cable which was causing the problem.

Those cheap Chinese lasers dont work. Best bet is to buy an original sony laser. trust me I'm one my 5th slim laser. I gave up buying those laser, I even exchange ribbons and nothing either. And yes I've bought the correct laser that belongs to my slim model.
