True, although I also recall plying San andreas on Xbox for the first time and thinking it looked a lot better, also you could use your custom music in-game through the radio!

Fun fact: The orange fog was only present in the PS2 version to cover up the distant pop-in the same way Silent Hill did on the PlayStation. The fog was removed on Xbox and PC simply because it wasn't needed there.

I heard they didn't port all the effects over from OpenGL(ps2) to DirectX(xbox and pc) which is why allot of effects are missing in those versions, but it was due to laziness and not because they weren't needed.

I really liked that yellow hue on ps2 San Andreas, it gave it a proper early 90's look if you know what movies I'm referring to lol... But the rest of the colour hues and overlays just nailed the atmosphere and 90's feel of the game and honestly makes the graphics hold up better for a bit longer, notice in the Xbox version and subsequently the "remasters" that when they got rid of that and the rest of the fog, and changes in colour overlays depending on where you were, the game felt smaller and the graphics showed more of their imperfections when all that was peeled away.

True, even on pc with all those mods I still can't replicate that kind of hue. Sucks for me because I couldn't afford a ps2 (and can't now because of all kinds of things). Mods can only get so close and they also have all kinds of unwanted side effects too. The game was part of my childhood yet I still missed out on the best things it could offer

@@dan_chen I'm one of the lucky few to still have the PS2 version on PS4.. and I also have the remastered version on mobile and the PC version as well, the difference really is night and day, and you're right the mods on PC can't really truly replicate it.

@@dan_chen Have you tried SkyGfx? Pretty much near perfect 1 on 1 in terms of recreating PS2 graphics or even better in terms of PS2 shaders on PC.

There was a radio station that allowed you to play your downloaded music saved on your Xbox. Even the rims on certain cars have updated textures compared to PS2. Good times.

@@The360DiveAttacksales don't equal quality. I'm certain the only reason it sold so well was because of brand recognition. The Dreamcast came out 2 years prior with online connectivity and DLC, almost the exact same performance, and a better game library and it was one of the worst selling consoles ever. Now that people look back on the Dreamcast, it's seen as underrated. Tired of the sales argument. If the PS2 was as amazing as people say it was, why don't i remember anything that stood out about it besides sales? People are blinded by nostalgia and big numbers.

@@WeirdSmellyMan again, being sold more doesn’t make something better. The Star Wars Sequel trilogy was the highest grossing set of Star Wars movies ever, but would you ever call them good? No, you wouldn’t. The Dark Knight Rises was one of the highest grossing superhero movies of all time, but while it was great, was it better than The Dark Knight? Again, your answer is most likely no. Call of Duty Advanced Warfare and WW2 were among the top 10 best selling CoD games, but most people didn’t like it, or thought it was okay. I only agree on the game library part you said.

Glad I got to play both versions as a kid, as my older brother bought it first for us to play on my xbox, then he later bought his own to play on his ps2. Great memories. I remember my brother's friend said that he was going to San Andreas in a few weeks and I couldn't believe it haha.

No solo el tono, la version de ps2 destacaba por 3 cosas mas: 1. El shading de los vehículos que simulaba reflejos, que en xbox/pc fue reemplazado por un simple specular que encima deja a ver las imperfecciones de los modelos y hace que se note la mala topologia de los modelos 3d. 2. Lo natural que se sentia el sol, literalmente si mirabas al sol este casi te cegaba y tapaba gran parte de la imagen, esto es algo que ni el silent patch puede recrear al 100% en pc. 3. La perfecta transparencia de las texturas gracias a que la ps2 manejaba y procesaba este tipo de texturas de manera MUCHO mas eficiente que la gamecube, xbox, pc y cualquier grafica de pc de la epoca, permitiendo que ninguna textura con alpha se dibuje de forma incorrecta al contrario que en pc y xbox que a veces ciertas texturas con transparencias hacen que se algunas zonas del mapa se hagan translucidas, además esto permitió que la ps2 manejara mayor densidad de efecto de hierba, niebla y humo sin perder casi nada de rendimiento. Edit: se me olvido otra cosa mas, la version de ps2 era compatible con los botones analogicos del dualshock, por lo tanto si presionabas x o cuadrado despacio, entonces acelerabas/retrocedias despacio, asi que podias controlar la velocidad del vehículo.

It’s crazy to learn that the red orange fog/hue was added to cover up and hide the draw distance problems caused by the PS2s hardware limitations at the time. It ended up creating such a vibe to the game that it just doesn’t feel natural and correct without it. You can see how much cleaner and a bit sharper the Xbox version is but without that red orange filter it just doesn’t set the mood.

I have both versions, the draw distance on the Xbox version looks damn near the same as the ps2 version.🤷🏻‍♂️ I think Xbox fanboys created this false narrative that the orange global illumination was removed from all versions because it wasn’t needed is just hilarious. Whoever heard of devs purposely removing graphical features from games because they weren’t needed, lol.

Yeah, I even added a mod to the PC version to bring back the PS2 effects such as the orange tint and the PS2 car reflections which are in my opinion better than the bland PC version.

@@Chuckvsfrank1232 lol yeah that's a good way of putting it. I liked it! it's how I remember playing it on the PS2, it felt like each game was in a slightly different style. Like 3 being the grimy foggy New York, Vice City being vibrant Miami and San Andreas had that orange smog of LA and each city in SA had a slightly different feel that captured each city well. Not to mention the eras they were set in helped give each game that unique vibe from eachother.

Ese cielo le da una ambientación impecable al juego. Aparte del exceso de smog en LA no hay mejor forma de representar el bello sol y palmeras que cubren las sangrientas calles de la ciudad y Compton. Es hasta poético como el color y bellos atardeceres eran una fachada para tremendo infierno urbano.

I had a mod on the PC version that skipped the intros and automatically loaded the last save which skipped the main menu. Hitting launch from steam to being in game moving around took about 10 seconds it was nuts.

@@VlIl there are actually very few games the original Xbox does not excel at compared to the ps2. It’s shocking how much better some games look on the Xbox. I think most people had a ps2 and didn’t notice the slight differences in graphics, and not to mention most of us were kids so ps2 graphics looked amazing anyway. But it’s well known the Xbox had better graphics and it’s quite obvious when you go back today. The orange sky does add to the vibe though.

La verdad es que la Xbox clásica era una bestia y siento que para su época fue la mejor consola y aunque le faltó introducir puertos USB como lo hizo playstation 2 tuvo mejores innovaciones como introducir disco duro para almacenamiento y dejar las memory cards tan solo para llevar partidas, introdujo el juego online gratuito, tenía procesador casi de cpu, la interfaz era muy cómoda y futurista además de que puedo decir con certeza que la calidad de sus materiales era mucho mejor que la playstation 2, es decir, una xbox clásica es pesada pero por todo lo que lleva dentro y además su plástico es muy resistente, son consolas que se usaron como cerebros de árcades y hasta la fecha muchas son rescatadas, restauradas y ahora son consolas jubiladas para disfrutar de los videojuegos clásicos de vez en cuando. La verdad me gusta más Xbox por esos aspectos. La playstation 2 también es un titan ya que a pesar de no tener la tecnología que tenía la Xbox es increíble ver como en pleno 2022 aún puede mover gráficos tan enormes como los titanes en los god of war y sus enormes entornos en god of war 2 y el shadow of the colossus es una brutalidad, aunque sus plásticos son de buena calidad hay algunas partes donde sí se puede llegar a sentir más débil como en las esquinas y en las rendijas de ventilación inferiores algo que no sucede en xbox. En lo personal tengo tanto la xbox clásica como la ps2 una a lado de la otra, la xbox fue rescatada y restaurada por mi misma y la ps2 ya la compré restaurada y por eso hablo con total certeza que para mi xbox es mejor que la ps2.

Sadow of the colossus se vería mejor en una Xbox, en Ps2 los colosos tenían muy baja resolución en sus texturas y no tenían mucho detalle sus cuerpos, en el piso casi no había objetos y todo el poder gráfico lo consumía el coloso sus texturas y sus efectos. El suelo gris, el cielo gris, la niebla gris, hace que veas más detalle en las texturas que el que hay realmente, ni el coloso ni el escenario consumen mucho poder, un PC u otra consola cualquiera podrían crerrer el juego. Un Xbox podría correr perfectamente el juego con más texturas el coloso, con más efectos, podría quitar la niebla del escenario y agregar texturas y objetos al piso, para verse como un campo, igual una PC de 2003, 2004.

Xbox introdujo el online paga, todavía lo recuerdo, porqué en mi grupo yo era el rarito de Xbox, y este juego el GTA San Andreas en Xbox da muchos fallos porque es un mal port (Cualquier juego va mejor en Xbox menos este, aún teniendo mejores texturas y moviendose a mayor resolución). Y sí la Xbox es mejor en casi todo en cuanto a juegos que PS2, pero no en servicios Multimedios. El PS2 sacó su discoduro para las versiones FAT antes que Xbox y el online en los juegos de deporte que no tenía Xbox.

bueno, es que la xbox literalmente era un pc (un pentium 3 con una placa grafica personalizada , una geforce 3 con algunos añadidos), pero hay que recalcar que la ps2 tenia una ram y un procesador mas rapido (aunque tenga menos mhz, era mas rapido por que era mas avanzado y mas capaz), pero no hay que negar que la xbox tenia mejores graficos, por que era verdad y en cuanto a la calidad de los materiasles, si, esta confirmado que la xbox se vendia a perdida, por que la maquina valia unos 400 o 500 dolares de fabricar y micro la vendian mas barata, para ganar mas mercado, y con ps2 eso no se hizo creo (solo el primer año nomas), lo unico malo que le veo , es que es bastante mas dificil de modificar que una ps2, tenes que abrir si o si la consola, en cambio con una ps2, con una memory card alcanza

@@sanchezs7614 Agreed. The orange environment was actually used to mask the low draw distance of the PS2's limited hardware. The Xbox and other versions didn't have this because the hardware was powerful enough to render objects from much farther away and allow a cleaner atmosphere. If they didn't do the orange environment, things would look a lot chopper on PS2

La versión de Xbox tiene mejores y mayor calidad de texturas, a la vez que va a una resolución superior. Aunque sí llega a presentar parpadeos, la iluminación cuando no está mal directamente no tiene y las partes de humo van terrible (En una consola más de 4 veces superior la potencia a la de PS2), la grama muestra los triangulosnpolignales y el fuego es una textura que no emite luz. Se nota que no le dieron el amor al San Andreas en este port cómo a sus hermanos (GTA III, Vice city y el The Warriors). En el PC no tiene ninguno de estos problemas tampoco, así que es cosa del port.

About the loading times: The loading times are based on how well is your console doing, for example, if you have a brand new console then the loading times will be shorter. I used to play GTA San Andreas when I was a kid and the loading times where a lot shorter, now that I'm 18 and my PS2 is really old, the game takes almost 3 minutes to load

@@cosmin1518 The PS2 and Original Xbox can't load games off the HDD. The HDD was just used for save game storage, so you wouldn't need to plug in those memory cards that you used to with the PS1. If you play San Andreas on the PS2 or OG XBOX, the whole game runs off the disc and is limited by the speed that your disc drive can read. I've got the game for my OG XBOX and occasionally the game will pause for a second or two when driving around to read info off the disc (maybe because it's scratched a bit or maybe because I was driving faster than the console could read the info off the disc)

eh no, cuando salido la xbox no era un pc muy potente, era un pc medio, con software dedicado, que es algo que no tiene los pc, por eso la xbox puede correr el doom 3 y para correr eso en pc , necesitabas un maquina mucho mas potente que una xbox , no era por que la xbox fuera super potente , sino por que programaban para ella sola, por lo que se podia exprimir mucho mas, que aun pc normal (esto es normal, pasa con todas las consolas)

pc custom lo dicen y se creo con desperdicios segun sus creadores ya que a la division directx para juegos no lo tomaban en serio eran los nerds xbox clasic es pc gama media de su epoca y lo que hicieron en 1 año es de aplaudir , un pc comun demoraba minutos prender ,una xbox solo segundos y solo modificaron windows, hicieron que corriera juegos fluidamente algo que la pc de su gama no podia con muchos titulos. a sony y nintendo les llevo años desarrollar su consola y hacer su campaña xbox clasic 1 año hicieron casi todo duro apenas 3 años y tanto en el mercado con 15 paises a disposicion ,solo en EEUU habia bastantes tiendas xbox, fuera no tanto por ser americano estudios japoneses no le daban mucho apoyo, pago el desarrollo de algunos titulos como a fromsofware a pesar de tener todo en contra le fue bastante bien en un mercado donde playstation se vendia en +80 paises oficialmente,99% de las tiendas solo era play con todo el apoyo economico de sony a sus espaldas. como que la publicidad de xbox y nintendo no era ni el 5% de lo que gastaba sony teniendo a todo thirdpartys de apoyo ya que sony fue el primero en darle mas % de ganancia y facilidades. tenia mejor relacion, y es sony un gigante japones tiene todo a su favor

@@FagnerLSantos Sorry about that! I respect it when people are upfront like you. I saw a lot of comments here saying the Xbox is graphically superior, which is simply not true. There's a reason why PC modders use PS2 assets and not Xbox. The game was a PS2 original, so of course it would look and sound better there. The Xbox and PC versions received major downgrades (sun effects, atmosphere, heatwave effect, missing tall grass, car shading, etc). Also, it might be of interest to you that most multiplatform titles shared the same problem. PS2 got the best versions most of the time. Manhunt for example, has lighting effects which are also missing on Xbox and PC. Pay attention to surfaces, also lights. Your character actually gets engulfed in light on PS2 whereas on PC Cash's model doesn't respond to the light sources. I have modded the game to perfection on PC. Check it out on my channel if you want. :)

I wish they would do a remaster that was faithful to the style of the PS2. It's not just the red sky in the intro that has a particular feel. It's much of the game. Check out the scene where CJ, Sweet, Smoke, and Kendel meet in in the cemetery, and look at the blue sky in the PS2 port in comparison to other iterations of the game. The PS2 version hits me right in the feels.

@@alihanbaruk1590 Any official sources to prove that? Also you're wrong, Xbox couldn't handle framebuffer effects due to 5.4 GB/s memory bandwidth VS 48 GB/s VRAM on PS2. Go and read about it on Techradar. Xbox used shaders which were very demanding and lackluster in many aspects, especially lighting (limited to DirectX 8.1). Not only that, but games like Metal Gear Solid 3 disprove any myth about Xbox's "superiority". Xbox was also downgraded in many other ways, from textures to polycounts, missing tall grass, wrong VFX, inferior lighting, etc This is further proven by Scarface which not only looks worse on Xbox (missing blood decals, shading, worse lighting, worse textures especially for roads, lower polycounts) but performs worse too.

The resolution is higher on Xbox, but I see that as a negative for ps1-2 era games. Idk why people like to play those older 3D games at super high resolution, it makes its age a lot more apparent and looks shittier because of the sharpness on low quality textures. Playing these games on a CRT with slightly lower res will make them look a lot less jagged and weird.
