You may remember the HORI FIGHTING COMMANDER pad that was released couple years ago for PS3/4 fighting games. If not, it was a pad that had a six button layout that was easy to play games like STREET FIGHTER which has that layout. Moving on from the previous release, we now have HORI FIGHTING COMMANDER OCTA which is for the PS5. Is it good? Watch the video.

I'm glad to see someone do a review of the fighting commander I've been using these controllers for a couple years they really make six button fighters so much easier i have a disability I can't use my hands as good as I used to but I love fighting games and still play them at a competitive level The Fighting Commander controllers are amazing for people like me there's two extra buttons make a world of difference The triggers in a regular controller are impossible in fighting games

I bought this about two weeks ago 🤔 maybe three, and this controller 🎮 has changed the game for me in sf6. This is exactly what i have been needing for a long time. The fact you can turn buttons to be inactive is also great. The hardest thing for me was learning my new botton layout and getting my timing back on point. I'm GOOD NOW

How is the durability of the d-pad. Usually the d-pad breaks quite easily on controllers which are on the cheaper side. Is yours still working?

Thank you for making this, man. I’ve seen several reviews talking about how bad the d pad is, even non-functional, and then you break out the wave dash right out of the box. I’m an analog guy actually, looking forward to the octagonal gate, but it’s nice to know that the pad works as intended.

I know this works on PS5 with PS4 versions of games but does it also work on the PS5 downloads of the games and PS5 only games like Street Fighter 6 ?

This would be easier to enjoy if they remade the previous Hori Fighting Commander but updated it to be PS5 compatible imo. I don't dislike the Octa but the PS4/3 Fighting Commander has the best dpad I've ever used.

@@mikeandroid3512 If you have a PS5 why not get the Brook Wingman FGC converter & get the Switch version of the Fighting Commander??? It’s only $34 on Amazon compared to the PS3/PS4 version costing $205 on Amazon 😱😱😱 That’s what I did because paying $205 for the PS version when you can get six of the Switch versions for that price is F’n ridiculous & these third party sellers on Amazon definitely be on some serious drugs 👎🏿😂😂😂🤦🏾🤷🏾

@@mikeandroid3512 Everytime they are doing the same thing the better ones stop selling and sell the new one which is not as good as before at least on controllers. From Fighting commander 3 lower to FC2 now FC 2 disappear too only that trash new one left I'd recommend you stop struggle and buy the Victrix. Everything are perfect only the design is Xbox one type so if you have short cut buttons at L2 R2 easy to be mistaken input other things far more better than HORI FC2

Just bought one for Street fighter 6 since the PS5 dont support my USB 6-buttons Genesis pad. Can't wait to test it and thanks for your video, because lot of reviews bashed it because of that Dpad (especially playstation people because they are used to the classic Sony D-Pad that is another world completely !) but it look cool to me !

How should I hold it? I play claw (thumb & index finger hit the face buttons & my middle & ring finger hit the shoulder buttons) my pinky rests behind the controller. Or should I hold it like how you’re holding it? Which one would be more advantageous bc my controller just came in today. Amazing review!

I used this controller when i played SF6 Closed Beta. And its is very good to use, due to drive combo and the 6 bottons etc. Plus you can adjust the controller with the Hori Device Manager software, example, i can put the sensitive down, and safe it as profile 1 or 2, and it does comes with firmware updates and so on. It takes massive time to get used to it, but on Tekken, this controller just as good than any other fighting games.

@@outlawdg d-pad, i deactivated my analogue on the Hori Device Manager, since im more used to the regular d-pad movement. But its up to you what fits you best

@@AnonymousC2218 yeah, thats typical Hori not being good at guideing with support. If you have the Xbox series then u can get it via Microsoft Apps, but i think that it works for all platforms, not sure but dont take my word from it. Just can't seem to remember where i got it from, i believe that i saw it from another KZfaqr. But i will check it sooner or later

I originally hated this controller because of its dpad. But you really have to wear it in for it to feel decent. I will be going leverless once the Kitsune releases, but I will definitely keep this one around.

i just need a comfortable pad that isnt going to break down on me so fucking fast. ps4 pads always mess up on me after a couple months and im not trying to spend 60 everytime that happens. i have a regular hori fighting commander and it was fine till the pad started messing up and it made me have to press super hard just to get down back. i just bought a razer raion and i plan on doing the mod for it to get rid of that neutral if you press too hard on it. If anyone has any recc's on fighting pads with an actual good pad lmk pls.

Yes, but placing your thumb in the middle of the dpad may be better. you can adjust the responsiveness too.

I use the PS4 version for Tekken and like having 1+2 and 3+4 on the extra face buttons. Feels natural and lets me play with just my thumb. May get this one but honestly disappointed the PS4 pad doesn't work on PS5. I think Xbox One accessories work on XSX and it makes me wish I just bought SF6 on that to save the money on a new pad.

if ur used to ps4/5 stick to those, ive seen someone on twitter say that dpad has broke after a week of use, Im currently new to Tekken 8, am playing it seriously since I own it, never had the chance to play T7 era. Hori pads are weird. Sometimes they're some of the greaterst pads you can buy and will last you years. Other times they wear out and turn shitty or on 1 occasion for me even break in the first week of use.

This pad got a lot of hate when it came out, for pc/xbox. Not sure why. Maybe because the old fighting commander is considered one of the best

The d-pad on the Xbox version of the Octa is horrible - even with firmware updates. Diagonals on the pad are inconsistent. Am here seeing if the PS version suffers the same issues

Ah so its not just me, I'm tempted but i have tried similar joint dpads in the past but never been able to dash ewgf on these layouts consistently but yet to try hori adjustable dpad. I imagine pewgf wouldn't be clean at all after reading the comments here..I'll check out beaver pad (damnnn my hands will thank you in few weeks already looking into buying hope it ships here to UK easily)

@@ProjectPewgf yeah check out the battle beaver fight pad. I know sonic fox was using it for a while and he said he really liked it (although I think he stopped using it and went back to a regular PS4 pad) The inputs are more precise but I hear that diagonals are tougher because it’s harder to “roll” your thumb to get down/back and down/forward since they are individual buttons and not one unit like regular pads.

@@ProjectPewgf Also, they have an option where you can separately buy the PS4 Dpad buttons for like $12 on their website. You just need to instal it yourself. They have a KZfaq video on how to do it. You can try that first since it’s a much cheaper option to see if you like buttons for the dpad or not

The old ones are a lot better, this ones dpad is awful and reviews on Amazon reflect that. Now the older Hori pads are very expensive now and they are by far the better ones, would be nice if they went back to that design. It used to be the best fightpad on the market.

I just placed an order for this controller yesterday(as my new PS5 controller of 2 months, has already taken a sh*t)...as my left analog stick is fried already...drifting like mad! Ordered a HYPR game controller 2 days ago...but it has not even been shipped out yet. I cannot go another day with playing GTA 5 Online...so I will be receiving my Hori controller later today. I had not planned on buying a fighting-specific controller...but the Hori is the ONLY reasonably priced controller for the PS5(& after having spent $171 on a HYPR controller that I probably won't see for another few weeks)...the Hori is a MUCH BETTER option than buying another piece-of-sh*t Sony controller.
