The PlayStation 5 is now three years old, and has been officially replaced on store shelves by the new PS5 Slim. We've updated our review to reflect that new model, as well as the current state of Sony's console at large.

The fact that sony moved the HDMI port away from the power input says alot. They saw a ton of ps5 with broken HDMI ports because it was too close to the power supply .

Btw you don't need a vertical stand. PS5 slim has a solid base and balances well.

Sony say it needs the stand to be vertical for ventilation, there's a vent on the bottom that needs to be raised, so the console will run hotter standing vertical without a stand. The slim runs a bit hotter to begin with, so is important.

we have to keep physical media alive though. you never own digital media or online only games. The gaming market will decline from this. Imagine 15 years from now and you decide you want to play a game you loved only to find out it's no longer accessible because it's no longer on playstation plus or gamepass. Digital is a ripoff and a way for developers to fatten their pockets more and care less about their consumers.

@@keponen331 true, but only if you let it sit a long time after empty/full charged. Play to drain, connect the usb, charge to full while playing. my controller out of box was 5.5hrs, now it's 9. all settings on strong.

Buying too many extra accessories just for making it stand or sit perfectly proves what a bad design the ps5 actually has. They were more concerned about charging extra money instead of giving it a sturdy design.

The holes are bigger at the power supply inside, that's jus about it. Same as around. So far though under my tv in an open stand my ps5 doesn't get dusty at all really. It gets hot but only did the over heat thing while standing vertical. Since I've put it horizontal, I've had no issues other than it jus getting damn hot but no shut down warning or complete shutdown

The PS5 Slim version allows you to perform this operation: essentially, you can remove the disc drive and set it aside, but your disc drive needs to be connected to Sony's servers to bind it to your console (this might be some kind of anti-piracy measure).

The fact that this model has some ray tracing colors are more indept but that's it if you don't have one get one! If you have already suggest wait for the pro at the end of next year it's gonna be a 1500 dollar pc basically steady 120 4k to 8k with true raytracing

Purposely done by the Sony engineers to sell the Edge controller with replaceable analog sticks. Which still use the same piece of junk potentiometer hardware as the regular dual sense controllers.

In terms of performance, there are virtually no differences between them: advancements in chip technology have reduced heat generation, allowing for a more compact cooling module design. Additionally, they feature a 1TB SSD and a detachable/installable optical drive. Beyond these updates, there are no significant changes. In other words, if you already possess an earlier version of the PS5, upgrading to the slim version is unnecessary; it's better to simply await the release of the pro version.
