#9 Wake Forest vs North Carolina THRILLING Ending | 2021 College Football

The game between Wake Forest and North Carolina had a thrilling finish as North Carolina stunned undefeated Wake Forest, taking them down in a shootout 58-55. Wake Forest held a 45-27 lead late in the third quarter, but North Carolina quickly rallied to tie the game up at 48-48 with under ten minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Then on the ensuing drive North Carolina stopped Wake Forest on fourth down and added on a field goal with two minutes left to take a 51-48 lead. On the next drive, North Carolina came up with another stop and then added on another touchdown and sealed the upset by taking a 58-48 lead with about one minute remaining. Wake added a late score, but ultimately fell 58-55. With the loss, Wake Forest falls to 8-1 on the season and any hopes at making the College Football Playoff are gone.

Maybe they just naturally evolved with the teams in their conference since the Big 12 has gotten this reputation as the conference where teams build their playbook and recruiting around offense. Even the SEC is starting to move away from building teams around defense. IDK if that's the natural evolution of what college football is moving towards or what. It will be interesting to see if/how OU will adapt in the SEC.

There was so much scoring in this game, that I turned it off when Wake went up 45-27 when I assumed it was late in the 4th quarter… it was only the 3rd…damn I missed a good finish 😩

Right before the start of the season if you told me that an unranked 4-4 UNC would have to upset #9 8-0 wake forest I probably would have laughed in your face. The unpredictability of each season in CFB is what puts it over the NFL IMO.

Defense is always optional with UNC/Wake. The Heels had just enough to pull it out. No upset by no means. College football full of overanked teams. What in the heck was that kick after the touch down was about. Ty Chandler will play on Sunday. Go Heels!

I didn't notice that when it happened, but that was a great play. If UNC guy had went up and caught the ball, the Wake defender was ready to knock his shit out and Wake forest would have very possibly recovered a fumble and had a chance to win the game.

@@jeremygerlach5488 Assuming you are talking about the two plays starting around 3:00, I disagree. The first one was as close to offensive as it was defensive, and still not that close in either case. For the second play, the defender got his head around and was going for the ball. And, again, the better argument is for offensive pass interference, though neither are very good at all. UNC lost their best defender on a targeting call that was, at best misguided.

Should it also not have been a penalty on the onside kick. Swear it looked as though the UNC player purposefully batted it out of bounds. Unsure on the early missed calls that evened this out, but the no calls towards Wake down the stretch were horrid.

What a carbon copy of the comeback from last year when UNC came from 21 points back to win to this year coming from 14 points back to win against Wake Forest. If UNC would've played just like this against Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and Florida State then they'd be undefeated up to this point...a lot of what if's to say.

Thing that shocked me watching was WF not attempting the ~45yd field goal just to get some points and going for it on 4th. They just needed some kind of points to stop the momentum shift that was happening.

Wake Forest still had 3 timeouts left. If he went down at the 1 and we only ended up scoring a FG, WF could have gotten the ball with 50 seconds left down 6. You would only want Chandler to not score there if that would allow UNC to run out the clock.

I have never seen such bad officials in a game. Carolina had a lot of help from the guys in the stripes and they didn’t even try to hide it. Typical for unc at home. They have to get help to win the game.

Eh. UNC lost on the road to VT and ND, both of which they were a TD away from tying inside of 2 minutes. The GT game was an aberration, Howell had 3 fumbles that turned into 17 pts for GT. Still a loss, but this team could easily be undefeated right now. And they certainly weren't playing worse teams than Wake.

Did they? They onside kick in this video is wake kicking off. But if they did it would be because they didn't trust their defense and figured an onside kick gave them better odds to get the ball back than letting their d play.
