I hope y'all are having a good holiday season. This will be the last video for the year, I didn't initially plan to make a video about this car but when my first car video did well I changed my mind. A lot of this video was simply filmed on my phone, so sorry in advance for the quality! Anyway, I'll see you in the new year :)

@ShitHappensRLY
@ShitHappensRLY Жыл бұрын
Airbag error usually means that steering ribbon cable is worn. Usually, buttons on the wheel starting acting weird too. A bit of work to replace, but totally doable at your driveway Piston slapping is caused by design of the engines with very short pistons, nothing you can really do, apart doing shorter maintenance periods and using good high quality oil and keeping oil level high at F. Keeping them cool, checking your coolant and washing your rads is helping a lot to prevent premature wear. And don't neglect misfires, it'll destroy these. After one time a failed coil left me almost stranded and had me to get to a dealer who charged me with 100 bucks bill just for diagnostics and replacing a coil, I keep a couple of them and a 10 mm in the glove box. Also, worn spark plugs are prone to destroy coils so change them regualrly (every 30k-40k km) or get Denso Iridium spark plugs which car survive up to 70k-100k of mileage. And get an OBD-2 code reader.

I had a 2015 Kia soul base 1.6L automatic with 267k miles, bought it with 203k miles because I trust Kia/Hyundai. Anyway, I noticed in the records the spark plugs had 55k miles on them at 243k miles and they looked CLEAN. but i was doing intake valve cleaning with spray can every 5k-7k miles so maybe that's why I don't know. Changed the spark plugs anyway with the OEM iridium. Loved that car and I sold it but hoping to get an Elantra for better fuel economy. The Soul got 31 (US) MPG highway, even worse at freeway speeds (oddly?) I got 23-25 (US) MPG on the freeway. Think it was geared differently than other Souls? IDK. That 23-25 MPG on the freeway hurt!

Elantra's are pretty good if you know how to maintain cars. The problem is that most people who buy these cars, usually neglects them by not changing the oil, and transmission fluids when they need to be changed. My neighbor maintains his 2012 Elantra, and he now has almost 220,000 trouble free miles on the original engine and transmission. Not bad! He originally paid $6,000 for the car in 2016, with around 50k miles on it. He does a lot of highway and city driving, he is a traveling business man.

currently driving 1.6 gdi 6 speed automatic 'Avante'. Thanks to harsh Korean weather, the car is equipped with heated steering and seats. It is really a lifesaver. My major fault was error code p0335 with crank position sensor fault at 145,000 km but was able to fix about KRW 100,000.. Recently the rear defroster stopped working but the technician said it was the wiring in the window itself was the problem and the only way to fix it was by replacing it. Since it was nothing major, I'm not going to fix that at the moment. Overall it is a very solid standard car for anyone.

My sister in law had a 2014 Hyundai Elantra in black here in the US, and yep the same piston knock/slap after 4 years as her daily, so instead of trying to put a new engine in it, my brother dumped it for a new 2019 Toyota Camry, and they have had no issues since beyond normal maintenance. It really is hard to beat a Toyota, or Honda if you want a dirt simple reliable basic car.

Or a ford. Generally if you want a long lasting ICE car get a naturally aspirated engine. Also, do your research on the vehicle before buying. I don't want to be "that guy" but just wanted to mention that running oil as thick as possible along with oil stabiliser isn't a good thing. I'm currently rebuilding a polo 1.4 engine because someone did a similar thing. The oil couldn't lubricate everything well especially on cold starts because it was too thick. Ended up spinning main bearings. I'd say run a slightly heavier 10w -40or same weight if you must and the ceratec you're using. Pass on the stabiliser it just adds More viscosity. Good job overall mate , looks clean 👍

I've had mine for at least six years bought it at an auction for $6,000. still going strong noticed the ticking about a year ago. I do the maintenance on it, use thicker oil, the noise is not loud and fades away after a while. changed the clock spring once and put in a modern radio. luckily the local council damaged my paint work and compensated me for a new paint job.

Now it has 78,000km and is the secondary car supplementing a used Model 3 we got earlier this year. My wife is buying an SUV, so we might be selling it, but it's an under rated compact sedan.

With my previous car I had engine issues eventually, and replacement coil packs solved one issue for a few days / weeks and then problem returned (car suddenly cutting power to walking speed and then restoring it violently to 30mph etc while driving). Also air bag light was alway coming on, and I had considered doing the dodgy 555 timer mod to make the light go on and then off at ignition time, so it would get through an MOT etc. I never did that as the engine issue got so bad, I had to abandon the car and buy a replacement of the same model.

I have been the original owner of a 2013 Elantra. Most owners don’t know you need FULL synthetic oil changes AND annual fuel induction service to prevent piston slap. No problems yet with mine. 😅

It's unfortunate that Hyundai AU are making it this hard for you guys. Hyundai in the US extended the warranty on all of these and were easy to work with when I had a similar transmission issue.

what about just trying to do a engine swap for the yt channel once the engine dies? swap in a other brand's engine. etc. i think that hyundai could work with something like a citroen ds3 turbo diesel for example. or if you wanna go light. grab a opel 1.4t tdi

Shine your tires and use all-purpose wheel shine as well, I use the combo on every car, But do wash the tires first before applying the shine or shine gel to have a nice clean surface to stick to. it will prevent dry-rotting over time as long as you use it regularly such as every week as needed or every other week as needed.

I still have my 2013 elantra gt. It does have that knock but mostly noticeable when the engine is cold. It's still been going fairly strong at about 130k miles. I wouldn't mind going for something a bit newer soon though. My own airbag light goes on and off myself. I haven't gotten them checked yet though as it would cost money I don't feel like spending. I haven't gone to full synthetic yet though.

Hyundai is the best equation price-quality of the entire market. I never drove one Elantra but the i10 and i20 are excelent machines that last long. The i20 above 90HP manual system is probably the best machine if you want a fast machine. It remembers me the old days of BMW2002 ...

I have a 2003 hyndai Elantra and all I do it change the oil every 3000 miles and I got 259000 on it right now. I got with 150000 on it. It’s a very cheap to maintain and reliable car. Very easy to work on too. Even if you take it to a shop. The most expensive repair I did was the timing belt. And it still cost less then $500 dollars too replace. Besides oil changes I only take to the shop like 2 or 3 times a year for little stuff like belt replacements and alignments maybe a part or 2.

Awesome reviews. Those engines are far superior then the older 2.0 138HP of the previous gen Elantra, Tiburon, Tucson... but personally, I like the old one better. Because it's unkillable. Tho... love those fuel consumption numbers.

I had one of these cars as a loan car while my Hyundai i45 (Sonata) was being serviced. It was fine to drive but ride quality was a bit harsher than the i45, which I would recommend over this.
