This is a PSP 2000 & 3000 Battery modification. The mod will enhance your psp gaming system for longer game play, and we are talking about really loooooooooong gameplay to enjoy those emulators and iso for hours or even days.
The mod is also helpful because sony has stopped making the original batteries for a while now, and the knock-off brands really don't last as long when your on the go with your device.
So here is the solution and the items that you will need:
1) A PSP 2000 or 3000
2) Tape or Electrical tape
3) Exacto blade or Box cutter
4) Soldering iron

5)Tapered Tip Shear

6) Screwdriver and Tweezers
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01...
7) PSP battery
www.amazon.com/s?k=psp+batter...
8) Lipo Battery 3000mah (size: Width 105mm Length 50mm Thick 6mm):

What a good idea to reuse the board from the old battery! Only thing I would add is that kapton tape is a good resource for anybody doing a lot of electronics prototyping/soldering/modifying. It's non conductive and used a lot for shielding/insulating small electronics work. It's the orange stuff on the Li-po battery you used.

@@Bubsy_Mods Heres an Idea for a battery mod, instead of using a very external battery solution you could use: A smaller battery, remove the UMD drive, and place the battery inside to replace both items and just glue parts on to the back to make it look whole; that or use screws or something else.

I ordered almost all those parts in the description and they came in the mail today. I also ordered the same battery, along with a 4000mAh of the same dimensions, except the length is 5mm shorter, and the thickness is 1mm smaller. The code (?) of the 4000mAh battery is 5050100 if anyone is looking. I have them both prepped using circuit boards from gutted official slim PSP batteries, and I cannot wait for my 2000 & 3000 to come in from Japan next week to start cutting and fitting! Man I really need a soldering tool
@Corrodias
@Corrodias 4 жыл бұрын
I just performed this on my 2000 model PSP. It was my first time soldering, so I was a little awkward, but the job was simple. The PCB didn't *exactly* match what was shown, but it was close enough. They must have used a lead-free solder on the PCB, because it took a lot of heat to melt what was on it. I had to bend the connector downward a little bit to get it to reach the pins underneath the battery, but it's all in there now, held in securely by the battery cover. Only had to cut off one side of the UMD cover; the other can stay there. What wasn't apparent from the video is how tight of a fit this is; there's just barely enough room under the battery cover to jam all of this in. The battery is putting mild pressure on the cover, but it's securely hooked in, so I'm not worried.
@Bubsy_Mods
@Bubsy_Mods 4 жыл бұрын
First of all congratulations on towards the process you went through during your battery mod. The battery I chose and recommended towards the users is a great fit considering those areas I had to cut out it fitted perfectly. I'm surprised that it was a tight fit and causing a slight pressure. I've done it to couple of PSP's and I had no issue using the same battery type.

Recently I just ordered from the same ebay supplier for these lipo batteries and there is a slight difference of thickness in them unfortunately (Even though on their site the description is the same). I was even bummed when I couldn't close the psp door. So what I did was use a rotary cutter and cut the plastic layout as a rectangle shape (not in the area where the 3 prongs are; where you put the psp battery, basically the cutting area is around the UMD section) so the battery could fit in there snug when closing the psp cover. Hope that helps.

Disclaimer: I have never done this sort of thing before. That said, I think I would snip any protruding pins on the back and maybe file them down to get them smooth. You want to leave some material because it's probably the soldering point, but you don't need protruding pins.

As shown here, I could not get it to sit flush at all with a 4000mAh battery (5mm height), and trying to put the battery door on put quite a bit of pressure on the battery due to the chips on the PCB being on the underside : i.imgur.com/P2JOjjo.jpg I switched to the official 1000 battery PCB since its cell was bloated, and it laid perfectly on the battery with the door put back on: i.imgur.com/2Tup9JL.jpg End result: 10+ hours battery time! i.imgur.com/j35OIyP.jpg

Please keep making more :) I want to join the wagon and start uploading mod vids and such soon. Itching to, but I need to get my source gathered again. :D

Hiya, amazing tutorial you are an absolute legend. New life given to my old PSP-1000 - one random thing though I’ve had the occasional battery flat indicator even though the battery is still reading out 3.7V. I can restart it and then it’s fine for a while. Any idea what it could be? I am using the PCB from the original battery (which died I assume a long time ago!).
@Bubsy_Mods
@Bubsy_Mods Жыл бұрын
Hey that's awesome. I am happy that you enjoyed the tutorial and now have a battery modded psp. With the battery flat indicator 3 questions: 1) Have you waited and fully charged the battery? I know it takes longer from charging it from orange light to green. 2) The condition of the lipo battery, is it holding up the charge? Maybe you need to change that? 3) Maybe fault on the PCB board from the psp battery? Did you try another one?

I know it's been awhile since the video was posted. But what is the ultimate play time you got out of this mod? The official battery pack I'm using is at 100% charge gives me about 5-6 hours of life. At 87% yours suggested 6 hours of battery life so at 100% it seems like it would be an improvement of maybe two hours from stock. But I read in the comments the battery gauge isn't accurate so what was the playtime ultimately increased to in your experience?
@Bubsy_Mods
@Bubsy_Mods 6 жыл бұрын
For me on and off playback has been 8 hours in total. One day I'll check and do a non-stop playback. But keep in mind certain emulator's you can adjust the clock speeds (such as the snes, neo-geo, Capcom, and GBA are set to 333mhz by default for smooth playback, which consumes slightly more of the battery life).

Hey there Bubsy, i tried doing this, just taped it before soldering in case i did something wong, when testing, when ever i try to charge or connect the battery, it takes me into usb mode, and the red light that indicates charging, starts blinking red and green after 2 seconds, any idea why it happens?

You say you taped it? I would recommend soldering it Emmanuel. I did this and my psp charging light is blinking orange. It still turns on fine with power from the wall, but the battery isn't taking a charge, and the psp dies if you unplug it. The battery tests at 3.80v so I think it's good. I'm guessing it's the charge controller circuit, but I'm not sure. I'd love someone else opinion.
@Bubsy_Mods
@Bubsy_Mods 6 жыл бұрын
If the charge light is blinking, check if you soldered the wires from the lipo battery to the + and - correctly onto the psp battery circuit board. Also check if the circuit board is not damaged. When charging it should be a solid orange on your psp. Now keep in mind because your using a 3000 mAh battery, charge times could take up to 4 to 5 hours (or more). But the play time will last for hours. There was a time when I calculated, the battery lasted me for 10 hours. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the video! I have questions regarding the BMS boards, isn't it better just to leave one pcb? I have the BMS board of the original battery and was wondering if it's okay just to connect it to the bare terminals of higher capacity Li-Po. Are there any benefits of using both the bms from psp battery and the one you are adapting to the psp?
@Seveinis

I’m almost positive the pcb from the psp battery is regulated to power the system / charge at the specified current. The lipo battery board might not be the same and could result in some bad output and charging. I’d play it safe and use both

Will this mod work on a original psp battery pcb? will it affect the new battery charging mechanism? since the pcb from the original battery still think it's connected to the original battery which is smaller in capacity instead the new bigger battery capacity thus it won't charge fully and will perform the same as the original battery?

Hey, I've just done this exact mod to my PSP 1000, and I'm wondering if you have any quirks in the battery information display. If I put my PSP to sleep and wake it, the battery percentage displayed under 'battery information' will vary by about 20%. Does yours show a fairly accurate percentage or does it fluctuate? I'm just trying to make sure there isn't something wrong with the PCB or battery I used.
