Sony recently announced the adapter that allows your PSVR2 to connect to PC so you can play Steam VR games with your PlayStation VR2, but it's not quite what I expected it to be...

I can pretty much guarantee the XR community will have all this stuff figured out in no time. They have eye tracking from the Pimax headsets working in OpenXR on SteamVR and all the features of the PS5 controller works while it's been used on steam. I for one am excited for all the additional PCVR games I get to try like Asseto Corsa, Microsoft flight sim, Half-life Alyx and all the mods and the ENTIRE UEVR catalog. Having already owned the ps5/psvr2 combo, the adapter is a no-brainer for me.

I don't think that these features missing is a big deal, there is probably no steam API to support them currently. As far as we know, these are not being blocked and can be supported in the future. Still too early to assume anything. The way I interpret the announcement is as Sony saying no game currently out supports these features, so we won't see them in PCVR titles.

@@FrankWasTaken "just wanted the medium to move forward" PSVR2 made eye tracking a thing in games, eye tracked foveated rendering a thing in games, head haptics and resistive triggers a thing in VR, brought us the only official current gen triple A VR games, the cheapest route into high end VR by q factor of at least 2 ... and funded multiple upgrades for awesome multiplats. A lot has been achieved in a year. "What is it (PC compatibility) really doing for the tech?" They announced this as an extra for PSVR2 owners.. But you can only get the full package on PS5, where they've paid devs to add those features and/or build games around those features. See, glass can be half full as well.. They don’t want to abandon the PS5 completely. Since games get released on PC and PS5, they would rather entice players to buy the PS5 version with the missing features. That does suck for people who don’t have a ps5, but I think that’s the point. Some developers probably don’t even know how to use it.

The big problem with these criticisms are that if it was a PC VR HMD from, say, HP a whole lot of people would be talking about how the golden era of PCVR was returning. So many people started the sour grapes “those features aren’t groundbreaking” nonsense when PSVR2 launched, now many can’t stop talking about the features. Now, as it is, PSVR2 for PC is just a bit better than Quest as it doesn’t rely on compressed stream video.

The PC support for is a great bonus to the nearly 300 existing games I can already play on the PSVR2. I'm most interested about trying to play video apps, via PCVR. Will KZfaq VR work? Netflix? Blu-Ray movies, Blu-Ray 3D? And homebrew VR emulator frontends. I want to play Virtual Boy in VR, and pick arcade games by walking around an 80's arcade. I'm hoping some of that is possible now. It needs an adapter, PCs don't have Virtual Link except for a like 1 generation of GPUs before it was dropped cause HMDs didn't pick it up as a standard. (for some reason) For the triggers, devs would have to implement that, of course it's not there. I'm not sure if the diver supports these things, the driver can improve later and with specific support from devs it could become a fuller experience. I'm excited for what it is, I'm buying the adapter for what it will be at launch, not my guesses for improvement.

I know this is comedy and I respect your VR opinion, but in all seriousness, the reason these features don't work with PCVR games is because the PC versions don't have these features If Sony were to say that these things work out of the box, when people go to play HL:A they will be let down and wonder why it isn't working. As if this would just magically appear in all PC games without developer intervention? Once devs have the hardware in hand and start requesting it they will enable it. I honestly can't believe people are mad about this stuff. Sony shouldn't have even mentioned the lack of head haptics and adaptive triggers, because duh, the PC GAMES aren't using these features in the first place?? Even if the support were technically there, the feature sets would still be entirely missing from the games! Unless devs in the future were to add support for the 0.5% of PSVR2 PC users, which could still conceivably be added down the line. As for HDR, the iVRy developer suspects that the "HDR" that PSVR2 uses on PS5 may not be true HDR and is instead just 10-bit color with some marketing fluff and trickery, this may be why a native HDR mode won't be feasible on PC, and even if it were, it would be depending on Windows to auto-HDR the content into the headset which strikes me as quite a stretch and a pain in the ass to support. Eye-tracking would've been nice for niche social use-cases and the one sim that properly implements DFR, but I'm betting it would've tacked on a lot more development time for Sony and pushed the launch back another several months. Again, that too could come in the future if there is demand for it, but the whole community has done nothing but complain about this PC launch that Sony was never even expected to give us in the first place, so I don't blame them for abandoning all of you ingrates

@@AbrahamZX1 Probably not many. Same with the other features. But, there are many pc games that *do* natively support hdr that are playable with vr mods, (cyberpunk, re8, etc.) which would’ve looked amazing. My issue is that it couldn’t have been too difficult to carry over that _one_ feature at the very least. We got nothing. This coming with hdr support could’ve been pretty big for pcvr.

Frank, I've been a supporter of yours since day one, but I have to disagree with you here, buddy. This new option to use the PSVR2 on the PC is a *very good thing*. Especially if you already own a PSVR2. This is going to give us everything the PSVR currently doesn't, namely games like Half-Life Alyx, social apps, VR video watching options, and homebrew VR options. I wouldn't sweat the lack of HDR, haptic support in the HMD, and eye tracking, as most PCVR games don't even support those to begin with. The $60 breakout box is cheap.. Less than the price of a single game, and it'll open up so much! The first thing I'm going to play on the PC (with my new $449 PSVR2) is going to be a classic video game emulator, which not only supports most system, but also throws you into an 80's bedroom, where you interact with the games, systems, and so much else.. Then you play it on s very realistic looking CRT.. It all looks gorgeous in VR! This is something I've wanted to experience for years.. And now I'll be able to, on a $450, OLED VR. I can't wait! Also, as far as AstroBot goes, it looks incredible. I had a blast with the included PS5 demo/game. This one looks like it's improved everything. I was surprised to see it wasn't a VR game, but here's the thing. Team Asobi is a small team of devs. I imagine they need to, first and foremost, make sure they get this game to the masses, and then work on the VR component. Don't forget, this is a tactic which Sony has done many times. Adding VR after the game has released.. Gran Turismo 6, GT7, WipEout Omega, The Last Guardian, No Man's Sky, REVII (via Capcom), REVIII (via Capcom), RE4 (via Capcom), among others. So I am hopeful that AstroBot will receive the same VR addition, via a patch. OR.. Better yet, perhaps there will be a deluxe purchase of the game which includes the full remaster of AstroBot Rescue Mission as well. Not that would be amazing, and something that would likely sell a lot of PSVR2 HMDs. -MattH
@Alex_Logan22
@Alex_Logan22 26 күн бұрын
They would’ve said something if that was the case for Astro, but it’s clear they don’t intend to add VR. RE7 launched day 1 with VR, RE4 Remake was revealed with VR support announced so we knew it was coming. Games like Village, GT7, NMS etc all launched before the hardware.
@videogameobsession
@videogameobsession 26 күн бұрын
The only thing clear, at this point in time, is that no details.have been provided regarding VR. Team Asobi is a small group of very talented developers, who are also very skilled at designing VR. I'm not a betting man, but I'd put money on AstroBot, having some type of PSVR2 support added, perhaps even by the time it launches this fall. What they've .shown of AstroBot at this point, is basically just a teaser. Expect.more details, with a proper, in depth, trailer. Sony/Team Asobi is well aware that people want 1. The previous AstroBot Rescue Mission, remastered for PSVR2, and 2. A sequel. I am confident that we will be seeing both.

Funny, I feel almost entirely opposite to this. The Globular Cluster head strap/mod eliminated any head discomfort I'd get with the PS VR2 original head strap. I used to not be able to play more than 20 minutes at a time without feeling pressure on my head, but can play as long as I'd like without any discomfort at all now. I played some of Half-Life: Alyx using Steam Link on my Quest 2, but the visuals were really washed out and I'm waiting for PC compatibility with the PS VR2 headset to play any more. My Quest 2 is the one collecting dust.

@@psvr2enthusiast for me, the mod still gave me the same pressure on my forehead. My play sessions only increased from 30 minutes without it, to only about an hour to hour and a half with it. And regarding PC support, I really am more distracted by the Mura of the psvr 2 display than I ever was of the blockiness of the display compression with the quest 2. And I have a friend that's in the same boat. Sold his psvr 2 for a quest 3 and is way happier with his purchase. You did say you used steam link though and I've heard that gives the worst results. Have you tried virtual desktop? That one usually works better for me.

@@Alex_Logan22 Psvr2 on the pc is going to be a whole lot different than psvr2 on a ps5. I have a Nvidia 4090, and a intel 13700k in my pc, compared to a ps5. Quest 3 is a telephone cpu and gpu, period. As I stated earlier, the quest 3 is topped on pcvr, by the pico 4, as I have both, and that is wired pcvr or wireless pcvr, at a cheaper price. I bought mine brand new a year ago(pico4) for 425 dollars and it has 256 gb of storage memory. I bout the quest 3 a little over a week ago, for $500 dollars with 128 gb of memory. I tested them against each other thoroughly to determine if it was worth the upgrade and it was not, I am getting ready to take the quest 3 back to walmart for a return as I type this.
