Depression is more than having a cloud hanging overhead. Depression negatively changes the way you act, feel, and think about yourself. It can be alienating and debilitating. Did you know that depression can occur in varying degrees, from mild, to moderate, to severe? In this video, we’ll be focusing specifically on some of the signs and symptoms of severe depression.

Absolutely true. It sucks needing to ask for help. Most people are just not understanding enough. Unfortunately that's something we must deal with it realizing that if we don't do it long enough we will break. Sometimes we can heal after breaking completely, sure, but that's not the case for most.

believe it or not, I find the manic phase much worse. I almost lost everything. My marriage and my home. Luckily I didn't have any friends to lose. I can handle the depression better as that is more what I have been used to since adolescence. I'm 58 years old and have been suffering for more than 40 years. They didn't discover that it was bi-polar until a manic phase landed me in the hospital on an involuntary psych hold. My mother was bi-polar and I have been trying to tell doctors that I thought I was too and have been dismissed time after time. All of this even though my mother was bi-polar. I am finally medicated correctly and am doing better. Hang in there and stick up for yourself. Only you truly know your own self.

@@kerrycronin3581 I agree completely with you on that, mania definitely ruins lives. I've been homeless too for a couple of times, lost a lot of friends, had crippling amounts of debt and lost one of the best job opportunities in my life because of it. Got my diagnosis somewhere in my early 20's, now turning 29 in December and getting my life slowly back together. There's still a lot of things to do, but I'm extremely motivated to find my balance. I know in some countries there are these psychiatric structures that are free for citizens (they're payed by the government) so you go there and "enlist" (I say that maybe for a smile, but it's more like they ask you some questions like "do you skip meals?" "do you harm yourself?" and things like that, after your name and your general info. And they're very quiet and nice). Then they make you see a therapist (usually a psychiatrist) and you start to go there regurarly, they can even pick you up form your house if you can't go there by yourself (you call them and they'll do everything they can to come and pick you up, or they'll simply go to your house and have a talk there). And you can even decide if somebody can be at that talk or if it's just for you (I mean, you can discuss that with the other person or not, they'll ask you anyway right before the talk). Where I go there also are bedrooms for like two people for bedroom, it's a tiny structure so there are few rooms, so if you have serious problems you'll ask to be hospitalized and you can live there for some time. Keep in mind that it's Covid time, so naturally there would be some issues, but usually when you're there you're like in a normal hospital so you can't "go for a walk" alone far away from there (they'll probably make you go out with some doctor, you're there for harmful things so it's natural that they'll always keep an eye on you, anyway it's not big deal since they won't be intrusive and they'll stay calm). It was a very strange thing for me to be there, because it was the opposite of how I lived everyday. It's a quiet place, nobody makes you nervous or bother you, they even have like two or three options for the meals, and you could choose without any problem what did you prefer to eat.

@@wallflower_365 well I don't know if it's a joke but I can tell you that you at least search for free counseling at hospital, mental health centers, and even schools. Then you can do a quick online search to find the countries themselves if you also need prescription for psychotropic drugs. Now, I live where I live and I can talk about the experience I have here, I won't find things in another country unless somebody tells me that info, which I don't really wanna know because I respect other people's privacy. But you can start searching for phone numbers or in your most nearby hospital if they know something. I personally think they can't deny help to a suicidal person of they come up to them and say something like "I've planned to kill myself", because it also becomes their problem then. They're doctors after all, their entire existence consists in keeping someone alive. (I don't want to sound too rude, if there are doctors reading this, but you really have to keep your values, otherwise you would disappoint yourself and other people, sooner or later, because they'll understand from you that you have little to no integrity, it's not important if that would be a misunderstanding or not).
@wallflower_365

@@Benny-xg4if It's fine, I was joking (kind of). My dad is a doctor and I want to be a therapist. I would like to live somewhere where I wouldn't have to charge my clients. Here in the US you have to pay for Healthcare which is insane and my dad also agrees (and he's a doctor). I want to know that I am helping someone and not have to worry about them not having enough money for my services. I already have a therapist and she was actually the one who inspired me to be a therapist. I am not worried about my well-being in that regard I just don't want to have to make a choice between money and helping people. If that makes sense.

Dear Rayonuh - i actually agree with you! This is why CBT didn't work for me. I was unable to convince / brainwash myself that something was true when i already knew it wasn't!! And there are a LOT of people out there hiding their grief, sadness, depression behind a quiet smile because someone told them changing your outward appearance is enough to change your inward emotions - crap! We are not a Christmas cake! Our outward Happy Christmas! icing does not reflect what is going on inside! We need help that is not fooled by our outward "public face." Sometimes we find that help/ rapport/ kindred spirit by showing a deeper concern for ANOTHER persons back-history, likewise hidden behind a silent outward personality. Look at the people beside you. Are they really all as happy as they look? But do be careful in. who you talk

This video described every aspect of my life for the past 10-15years. You tell people your depressed & because nothing traumatic enough has happened to you, people have a way of dismissing how you feel. They’ll say “everyone has a bad day. Everyone’s depressed once in a while” “Get over it” I wake up everyday with a pit in my stomach, I can cry for no reason, I’m unmotivated & I struggle most days to even get out of bed & to do the simplest things ( chores, keep up with hygiene, make a meal, etc. ) When I do something simple, I almost feel fulfilled in a weird way. It sucks, because I know I’m capable of so much more, but I’ve convinced myself I’ll feel like this for the rest of my life. I’ve been talking to someone weekly, it’s been helping & I just hope to get over this. It feels hopeful to know I’m not alone.

Mr 781 Mass, Try to heal yourself. In life there are only 2 problems--mind and the body. Be careful what you feed your mind. Avoid comparing yourself with others, reduce watching negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives relief from stress-anxiety. For a relaxed mind observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 10-15-20 minutes or more. You can sit or lay down on the bed--No deep breathing. Don’t fight your thoughts. With practice the mind will relax. Keep a reminder to observe your breath sensations throughout the day and night anywhere -anytime-- before sleep, at work, at home, when travelling etc with eyes open or closed. One more tip is to sit on a chair without moving, be still and observe your breath for a few minutes. Stillness reduces thoughts and brings quick relief. Like me make breath observing a lifetime habit to have a better life. Best wishes--Counsellor.

@@evilish888 The reason I hate the word "depression" is because it is a word we use in everyday life. People say they are depressed because their favorite show isn't on or they gained some weight. No, you are not depressed. You are sad or upset. True depression isn't being bummed out about something. The term should be uni-polar. It is not an experience everybody goes through. It is despair. It is walking through a cloud of syrup every day. It is not understanding why you should even be there. Please don't confuse being upset over how things are going with depression.

The hardest thing is pushing yourself to do them, whatever it/they are. But doing so is the greatest step to getting yourself back to the life of living...not just existing. I get told I'm too sensitive, lazy, that I could've done more, or planned in case I wasn't feeling well. My first year of university went by, and I barely remember any of it, so many days were the same and blurred together. I've had depression for a few years, but it never got that bad. I heard of people who couldn't shower or brush their teeth, and thought it would never happen to me. Now it takes so much of my energy away. It's all the same. Repetitive. Tiring. I get no sleep. It makes me exhausted, so I don't do well in everyday life, and yet still I can't sleep. The cycle repeats over and over. I don't want to keep on living like this

Severe depression was a hard battle when I was at my worst. I'm doing much better by taking my strong medicine every day and pushing myself to use my skills I learned in therapy. It took years. Several years and I used to feel that it would never end. It doesn't end, but it does get better. You just need time and help. Give yourself the patience and take care of yourself. It's so hard to feel compassion for yourself at all with severe depression, but it is possible. Please make sure you take care of yourself today, and reach out to people who love you. Though they may not understand, they will most likely do anything they can to help you. Stay around those people. Stay here in this beautiful planet. We need your light.

Ive been depressed for almost 10 years and never really realized it until the last few years when i really spiraled out of control. Ive felt phenomenally better recently after taking very extreme measures to escape my depression. While studying philosophy i read that "comfort does not lead to a happy life, fulfillment does"... so i replaced all of my typical coping mechanisms with new activities that are either fulfilling or exciting. I unplugged my video game console and spent all of that time in the gym, dieting, reading, hiking, meditating. I cut out almost all of my friends because i felt that they were negative influences (they really were). My new lifestyle and hobbies allowed me to find new friends and they are supportive, helpful, positive, and a lot more similar to me than my old friends were. I stopped tobacco, i stopped alcohol, i stopped caffeine. ive been happier, ive been more fulfilled, ive been more focused on the present moment, ive even been making more money. I did this one step at a time over a period of more than a year and there were several lows and several highs as an outcome, but now im finally starting to discover my path to fulfillment.

I wouldn't BE so depressed if I was still young, and by young I mean kid. I HATE being an adult, I would give just about ANYTHING to be a kid again, that alone would make me feel a LOT happier. If I was a kid again and never age, if I had kid friends who also never age, if music TV and films were like they used to be, if all my neighbors were quiet as church mice, if there were no smartphones, and if the weather outside was allways at a comfortable temperature, THEN I would be the happiest soul who ever lived.

Go retro. I mean it. Shut of social media. Instead of a game on a pc go to an arcade. Go to the library. I generally think we started to move wayyy to quick in life, which can makes us go nuts. Calm down. Chill. Heck, you manage to get 10 minutes of free time? Go get some sticks outside. Go glue them together. Add leaves. Small crystals. Your mind will slow down, the issues will be pushed away if even for just 10 minutes. You got this. You can have those small childlike moments even now. This is the one thing that I’ve noticed helps when you have depression…be outside and either in nature or in a public area, I think feeding off high levels of energy doesn’t give you time to be depressed. When I start to feel it coming on, I have to physically move rooms to disconnect from it, otherwise it consumes me. It’s also only bad during midday/afternoon, I find I’m happy in the mornings and late in the evening for some reason. Writing about it the second you start feeling it also helpful. Start by saying, why am I feeling depressed because you yourself aren’t depression, you’re just feeling it, and feelings can be changed ❤️

the problem is, there is still a huge stigma with depression. NEVER tell your boss or your HR rep.. or ANYONE in the company you work for. I did this once. Because they accused me of raising my voice to a co-worker -- This "raised voice" was what I consider my slight irritation voice. I raised it to a millennial who thinks anything more than a whisper is "yelling" at them. They kept badgering me why would I do that? I was finally like -- well -- MAYBE it's because I am on depression meds.. 3 weeks later -- I was fired. FULL STOP.

That may be true but as long as you see yourself as a victim you cannot win this battle. Once you set a goal to defeat it and you break it down to see what is really bothering you, then you can conquer it. Depression is actually a loss of vitality. This is what happens when you don’t take care of your own spirit and do what you came to the planet to do. The world will sidetrack you and make you forget while you’re here. But you have to get back on track, do what you love, nurture your own heart and soul, and stay away from toxic people. Turn off social media and the news. Eat healthy foods, exercise or walk every day, and get rid of all addictions including TV. Set some meaningful goals and write some activities down in your calendar and make no excuses. Just try to have one good day and knock everything off your list. By the second day you build on that momentum. And so on until 21 days when it becomes a habit. Just do it. After you’ve done it, WELCOME to your new world. Now the world has become your oyster and you are no longer victimized by anyone or anything, Seen or unseen. Now, go seize the day!

These videos help give me context or a rough frame of reference. A lot of things that get brought up, for years, was treated “as normal” and that I just can’t keep up or perform or function to a normal level. When I was much younger, anytime I would try to talk about it or anything. Family would just talk over me, pretend to not hear me or just get mad. “Hard? Sad? You’re just spoiled.” “Thats nothing” etc etc And I just accepted that and just dealt with it and no longer tried to bring it up. “Friends” didn’t care and would get dropped or ditched… and I just started to accept that no one cares and just unlucky (to things beyond my control or influence) and don’t know what to do.

I’ve had to take the view that if I achieve something today then I shouldn’t beat myself up for it. It’s really hard when literally brushing your teeth can be one of the hardest things you do all day. This is something I absolutely have not been able to get a grasp on yet, but try and reward yourself for the little things, hopefully the big things will come later. One thing I do find really good when I can manage it is to shower and sit outside for an hour. Sun is nicer but even if it’s overcast get outside and just sit. Whether that’s watching a video on KZfaq, just sitting. I’ve got a cat who always comes out with me and sits on my lap. It’s not much but it’s amazing how much he can help relax you.

So hard to separate long Covid fatigue with severe depression and fatigue from past trauma One of my poems “My face is a roadmap. My face is a roadmap of paralyzed fear It lost the contour of shine Where sadness appears. My face is a roadmap To my story afraid to unfold My face is a roadmap Of all the tears buried beneath the road. My face is a roadmap Where once there was light Molesting father , narcissistic mother and brother Darkened it to ashen abysmal night. For years my hidden molestation is what I thought shredded my soul that didn’t compare to the narcissistic abuse my mother and Christianity bestowed. Trampling my heart, lungs, and vocal cords. My face is a roadmap Of Christian demise Respect honor your parents at all cost Are the lies. I didn’t fight back, l didn’t utter a word. I didn’t even know what was a healthy loving world. My face is a roadmap Aging lines of frequent attacks From a shell of a mother Reminding me You’re selfish Self centered Regardless of the mountain of love showered to Her impenetrable heart sac. My face is a roadmap Wiped out by the tidal wave of trauma Voice smothered to the depths of all that Surreal drama. Good days I’m grateful to be alive, Rough days I struggle to stay to survive. My face is a roadmap 69 years Mixed with the joy of my children Loss of parental nuclear family love foundation Stained with tears. It took years layered with abusive narcissistic tasks To turn my roadmap Into a pretend happy mask. My face is a roadmap It conceals Reveals A generation of trust built on sand A broken trust in me Constantly needs A helping hand Today, I author this piece to drive out my fears I want to claim happiness What’s left of my years. My face is a roadmap Also shows joy It came with a price I’d pay again and again To have my precious girl and boy. There is a truth to a portion of my heart undefeated That truth my two children saved With love over their years They repeated. My face is a roadmap Blake stares To a far away place Where all children are gently loved Always kept safe. “ Kimi minor

But a few months ago, it was like a switch flipped inside me and I haven't been able to cry since. I have revisited songs, movies, photos, etc that would always reliably make me cry, and nothing. The only time I cried recently, was during a panic attack. And that was due to crippling fear from facing a phobia, not sadness. I haven't been able to feel anything but fear for the last few months. I'm so Depressed 😞 that my Depression has Depression smh. My Depression is the most Depressing thing I've ever had to face and deal with in my entire 39 yrs of life I've had on this Earth. Idk how to be positive or happy or motivated or driven to push myself to try to have a better life and to create a life worth living. I have tried so hard but nothing gets better. My Bipolar Depression is so severe 😔 that Idk if I can stand much more of this dark sad depression n misery. Depression is horrible. And bipolar depression is the devil in my opinion.

Then ask for help. If u think it's caused by depression it can be treated. If you have separate anger and impose issues then u need to know that. Schools have counselors that can connect u to help. Family doctors can connect you to help as well.

I've had a lot of problems because of anger, what most people don't know and what I just learned, I that everytime youre severely agressive, your mind is set to kill for some seconds, meaning that if you go to far into severe depression until you lose all hope and mercy, you litteraly have more then enough time to kill anyone, and apparently I had no then 100 chances of killing someone due to being severely angered during a singular year.

My dad keeps telling, a little bit at a time. It’s made me really step back from stressing about things I get overwhelmed by. It doesn’t make things better, but eases some of the pressure I often feel. He didn’t realise how much I struggle until he spent several weeks here, helping me move into my new home. I actually go to bed earlier than he does. And wake up later.

Love how I've had all of these exept hallucination nonstop since my childhood (20ish years) and can't even leaven my house on my own, yet every doctor I've been to claimed my depression to be moderate and episodic. Despite it having been severe and chronic by definition for literal decades. My symptoms fit the crieria perfectly and that's not even counting the SH, S ideation and several attempts. They just decide that I have to be lying. It's fucked up really.
