In this video, I cover a lot of ground and go off on a few tangents so bear with!
I've been diagnosed and living with my ADHD for 6 months now so I'm trying to make some positive lifestyle changes instead of relying on medication.
I said I'd link everything in the description but I made this instead because... well, it's fun! So here's the link to everything mentioned or if you'd rather get the notes without watching the video: bit.ly/siankatie_YT_ADHD
For those of you that did make it to the end, thank you for watching, I'm still not a fan of those tiny tomatoes 👀 !

On the same medication and on week two of my titration, actually remember watching your video before my assessment. I'd say the same, the medication isn't a big silver bullet, you don't notice it "kicking in". But reflecting over the week I realized I got a lot more done than I normally would have. I think for me, ADHD makes you more likely to do certain things, like neglecting to do the dishes, or never paying off that bill you should have got done. Once you get the medication, it helps you, but you still gotta put in the work to recreate new habits and kinda reprogam parts of your life. The drug doesn't cure you, it's just a tool that makes it easier to do things. Anyway, it's nice to see someone going through the same journey. Especially when all you read is the hype about how medication is going to do all these wonders and you realize the reality of it.

Hey, hope you're doing well on your medication! Thank you for leaving this comment, I've thought about it a few times over the last few days. I've reflected and I do agree, I can spot a few things (mainly chores) that I've gotten a lot better at consistently doing over the last few weeks. I think sometimes, when in the moment, it's hard to reflect because I get memory fog but when I unpack it all, medication has had a positive impact on things that I get done. I think I knew that subconsciously that's why I've not given up on the medication yet even though I'm really not a fan of taking daily meds.

@@SianKatieThe benefit is, at least you aren't alone in your experience. I've always been quite realistic that these drugs probably aren't going to be this amazing fix, but will help me day to day. I've spoke to many pharmacist about the idea of medication holidays when I am off tritration, which they have said is possible. So I'm likely just gonna only use the drug when I need it, like work and study or have a busy day I need to stay on top of things. It's a tool and we're lucky to have it. Anyway, hope you're still doing well.

@@TheArchive Hey, yeah, I think that makes the most sense. I've started not taking them on weekends again so that I can top up what I don't manage to eat in the week. I'd ideally like to get the benefits daily to cope with my obsession of not wasting time but if there needs to be a balance and I can get myself motivated on days off then that's fine with me.

Aww, I'm on 18mg once a day and then I go up to 24mg next week. I agree, it's very subtle but I do see a difference. Horrible feeling when you're exhausted though! Sleep and a regular eating schedule seem to help. This was a really useful video, thank you for sharing!

Hey, thanks for reaching out! How did your increase go? Are you on Xaggitin too? Yeah I'm really hoping some coaching can help me sort out my sleep and eating schedule. I have spoken to a dietician but they basically said you're eating all the right foods so it's just on me to keep them regular and make some swaps to higher calorie options. Thank you for watching and sharing 😊

This is absolutely what I’ve been through. It was a misunderstanding the doctor didn’t refer me to The P so I’ve had to pay Assessment fee and now I’m trapped for 8months paying £230 per month for 8months that pays for a monthly check up my private prescription and then my actual medication. I transparency so be carful and make sure your doctor has referred you. I can’t get shared care for 8months so it’s been Expensive for an assessment I knew the outcome too. Trouble is the NHS is 5 year waiting list medication or assessment.

I am with MyPace, Dr Saleem costs roughly £180 every six months and the tritration is about £300-400 covering monitoring, shared care handover appointment and sending the prescription. I'd maybe email them and see if they'd take your diagnosis and be willing to treat you. Probably would save you a ton of money.

@@TheArchive tbh with the way the waiting times are I’m just going to suck it up this time… I’ve been on the medication from 5-6 years old with a gap end of high school. It was much easier process then to navigate and get help. Now it’s all about money and the waiting list for health service is about 5 years for even medication assessment. I’m not sure xaggatin is going to be for me

When P-U.K. referred you to there titration team and you were added to there waiting list any idea how long that was ? Any do you have to go in your local GP for the weight and blood check and is is done monthly ?

For me I think I might have waited around 2 weeks because my psychiatrist was able to prescribe medication. Do you know if your psychiatrist can prescribe the meds? I’ve heard a few different time periods. Your best bet is to leave a message on your patient dashboard and someone will give you an estimate

@@SianKatie I don’t think she’s able to give the meds and I only had one chat with her and that was the assessment from what Iv seen on the sight it take about 6 months from now to get a doctor to start titration period

@@finity9316 Ah, I see, hmm, that's quite a long time, i did see that they're hiring though! So I think they're trying to speed that process up by hiring new people who can titrate patients.

Hey I like the tiny tomatoes 👀 have you tried the Huel Cajun pasta or chicken and mushroom pasta? I’m mostly living off Huel black at the moment, just have no appetite at all on meds

Haha! noooo!! ban the tiny 🍅 no I haven't, are they vegan? I'm honestly reluctant to spend any more money on them because I now have 3 bags of meals that I refuse to eat 😵‍💫 I think that's okay, I've found that I'm better at eating later in the evening, so sometimes I will stay up later so that I can eat some more. I've also stopped taking them at weekends. Gives me time to calorie stack. I'm going to speak to a dietitian in 2 weeks so I can update on what they recommend. In the meantime, where are the Maryland cookies 🍪

@@SianKatie yeah they’re all vegan! But yeah not worth wasting any more food and money if you don’t think you’ll enjoy it! Can always send you some samples to try 🤣🤣 I think I’m gonna start taking weekends off meds, my psychiatrist didn’t think it was necessary but I’m gonna talk to him again about it! And yeah let me know what the dieticians say please, that sounds super useful! Enjoy ze cookies 😊

@@jamesa8730 Hey, update: I spoke to the dietician today and I also weighed myself just to get an update and it looks like I've put 2 pounds back on! So hopefully the scales are telling the truth 😂 I have really been slacking with meds because I had a week off work in between jobs and my birthday but I'm aiming to take 36mg Xag Monday - Friday with weekends off. I've been keeping a food diary the last few weeks so I gave examples of average days and I've been told I'm doing the right thing by eating as many high-carb/calorie foods as poss (also beer counts, yay!) I'm going to get some sample smoothie building packs sent over to try but really the main suggestions were eat as often as poss, before bed is fine, swap oat milk to soya bc it's a bit fattier (which i didn't know but will try). I also mentioned in my latest video that i had blood results back and they're all perfect 🤩 hope you're doing well with your meds & food
