My experience with my first week stopping Elvanse.
For context: this week was my ovulation week where I'm in the peak of happy/healthy hormones. The week after was a lot harder and my pre-menstrual symptoms were pretty heavy and affected my mood and concentration A LOT.

I stopped taking my medication because my heart rate increases too much on it. Honestly maybe I can do without it with better coping strategies. Trying another type of medication feels terrifying right now. Thank you for the amazing content

That’s why I stopped. Exercise as soon as I wake up and no coffee helps. 🇺🇸

Wow it's so reassuring to hear other people experience this too. I think ADHD for adults and medication is so new to all of us it's easy to get swept up with seeing it "change people's lives" that when you don't have the same experience it's easy to doubt your own experience. But we definitely do know ourselves the best and I think ADHD'ers have a strong natural instinct and if we just follow it we can really live great lives but when we deny it because it doesn't fit into to the modern world and tight schedules we start to suffer. So I'm going to keep listening to my body and instinct and if I feel the need, pick up medication again but only if I feel like it's right for me in the moment. 💛

Yeah I’ve just been recommended these for my cluster headaches too. Interesting. Wonder how hard it would be to convince a GP I should try them though

I've just come across you- I noticed on last one I watched you were paying for meds - I hope you have workout that you should be on a shared care agreement and transfer. I've tried two - I found that short-release works best - you can control the dose so found I could- I take blood pressure tablets so that probs takes the edge off some side effects of anxiety that i notice ba ed of day - short-release means can have some appetite-I've never had long release- doesn't appeal as it sounds like harder to get does right etc. I was on short-release methylphenidate (tranquilly) for 4years and decided to have a change to Amfexa - I feel its doesn't work as well in hindsight so looking forward to next review. Sounds like you are doing well-I think sleep; blue glasses; good habits is just as important....I'm so similar if it's a sunny day - something good happens or a pat on the back - that really helps stay on target. I suspect having some short release is good to have in stock just in case a big work thing happens and I need to go on a long drive. Your habits and self-care is way better than mine(my excuse is divorce and young kids but you're good proof) I don't think taking meds is a bad thing but years ago I was able to do a lot of running - that helped loads (short term after exercise)- Trauma is so the thing to really understand though....I look at my past completely differently now a lot of my challenges are just massively exacerbated by codependency recovery really which ( in my view) would never have happened had I understood boundaries/ my rights etc You're so nailing all of this - you've clearly worked out loads on your own. ADHD is so stigmatise - sharing your experience /realisations is very helpful. I've never taken tranquilyn or amfexa without being on bisoprolol for high BP (already had that)and levothyroxine (thyroid) -I don't fully understand how it all like but I know that being under constant stress over the last 2 years and the extra erasure of having kids whilst navigating divorce...well I think ( according to my googling) autistic burnout/cortisol /crap self-care/ not organising extra support eg cleaning etc well the cortisol impacted my thyroid and that impacted the hormones so I've been without energy and limited focus - defintitely need to work out / understand what balance diet wise helps. I came across this lady the other week - she explains quite a lot of issues eg how the HPAaxis- trauma etc physically occurs -of course I can't remember now but if you haven't come across her she's an American apple medic does short training sessions on line and a few are related to ADHD probs because her son has...ooh that was long! 5 Tips to Increase Neurotransmitters Naturally kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fNWnosmfqZ27mHU.html Impact of Hormones on the Lives of Girls and Women with ADHD - Interview with Prof Dr Sandra Kooij kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pq2ea6l_t5y0eJ8.html I swear it's all about having your hormones in a good balance- when I was pregnant with first child whatever was going on hormonally allowed me to read/ be calm/ not lie sensitive...basically what I imagine it's like to be neurotypical...I wonder if my notes would show results of my thyroid test and if that would show a picture I can use as bench mark..... I wonder if there is much of an cost difference or just due to supply contracts - if you get a chance ask for short release tranquilyn- I think it's my best option - just keep it just in case - I am very dysregulated /top ranking adhding at the moment though 😬🤗

Thank you for your lovely message. It's always great to share experiences with someone else. I've not tried short release but I'll keep it in mind. I'd like to try some non-stimulant meds. Thank you but even if it appears like I have good habits I probably average 3/4 days a week keeping up with them. I think it will always be like that. Our interests changing has a big impact on our ability to keep up with habits too, I believe. You're totally on to something there! PTSD being exacerbated by codependent relationships that delay recovery due to lack of boundaries is HUGE. I feel like you've stumbled on a discovery 💡 I'm really trying to work on setting boundaries right now with my partner and I think after going through our fair share of sh*t times - we're both in a good place to focus more on ourselves. It sounds like you have a huge amount of self-awareness and I think that's the key, we can't be on top of everything but at least we can start to predict our lows and start preparing to make the blows a bit softer. I've not made much progress on the right diet myself but I know sugar and heavily processed is not good so I try to avoid it. Hormones is something I'm trying to understand more about - I've recently read that excessive estrogen can cause a lot of the ailments I'm trying to find solutions for like migraines, bloating. You have much wisdom so thank you for sharing it with me. I'll take a look at those videos 🧡🧡

Xaggitin I think for me gave a lot more paranoia. Been on it since 2020 to today but I honestly think I’m thinking I’m extra tired on meds without it I’m not sure but with all the side affects I’m definitely needing to probably come off it

thanks for sharing your experience. I've heard that after a while some people swap their stimulants to get the original benefits back.

I think I might do a bit of a similar thing. I've heard some people only take them to get through things like University so I might do something similar and pick them up if I need to intensely focus for a period of time but at the minute I just want the freedom to be myself and not be constrained to fit in to the rest of the world and their expectations.
