Without question, you or someone you know has experienced depression. Perhaps you found this video because you are looking for help in overcoming depression. Help comes in many forms and here we explore popular forms of therapy that are used to treat depression, as well as how psychologists define depression.
Self-doubt is common with depression and, as you'll see in the video, it can mess with your thought processes. You might ask yourself, "Why am I depressed?" or even, "Am I depressed?" Depression is a serious issue that is too often overlooked as just sadness or a personality flaw. If you think that you may be experiencing symptoms of depression, do not hesitate to seek out help. Thanks Dom! Yeah, I was curious to see that research as well! It's sort of based on a meta-analysis of all of these sleep studies that found people reported decreased feelings of depression. The leading theory right now is that it makes similar changes in the part of the brain that MAOIs affect, buuuuuuuut who actually knows.

@@neurotransmissions The pain, the loss, the uncertainty, and the hurt of depression can be agonizing. I know. LIFE is about LIVING. Depression involves a loss or reduction of DESIRE. Desire consists of intention and concern, thereby including interest as well. GREAT. Experience MORE. BALANCE and completeness go hand in hand, as imbalance and loss go together. The INTEGRATED EXTENSIVESS of thought (and description) is improved in the truly superior mind. Thoughtful, emotional, AND physical health, growth, development, and maturity matter. Indeed, thought, emotion, AND feeling are interactive. Warm yourself from within. IMPORTANTLY, depression is NOT properly, accurately, AND FULLY defined, understood, and categorized as a "brain disorder". Improve your ability to think. Improve the DESIREability of your EXPERIENCE (and this includes thought) IN GENERAL. So, think positively. Keep your thoughts in the PRESENT. Improve upon your self awareness. Avoid thoughts/thinking that is/are relatively shifting and variable. The clear goal is to be grounded, resilient, aware, integrated, and balanced. Truth, reality, AND nature/natural experience go hand in hand. Fill yourself with love. In fact, love incarnates in different forms (and to various degrees). Finally, SURVIVAL, strength, balance, awareness, and wellness are of critical importance in this discussion. The opposite of what is depression can be said to involve serenity. Be yourself. Patience AND resolve. Struggle to victory. Peace through strength. Balance and completeness in LIFE. ❤️🙂👍 By Frank DiMeglio

I wish treatment for mental health was more easily accessible in the U.S., as it is, I can't even afford to see a therapist (completely disregarding the fact that they haven't been able to help fix my problem thus far) and I know a lot of other people are in the same boat right now. Having depression, PTSD, severe TBI, and the memory problems that go along with it all really sucks.

From the 6:28 point forward there`s an odd effect on the background from the lamp. Might want to check if it is on the original recording too and if it can be avoided. But still: thanks for the video!

Hey! Yeahhhhh, it was something wrong with the original recording. Perhaps the focus is slightly moving forward and backward. I think that's what's giving it that pulsing look. I was bummed when I saw that while editing, but what can you do! Thanks for watching!

You are not alone is a phrase for those who come from developed countries and have background to fight it. My depression has come to the point of anger. Why there are no tips for depression of people that hot tired of hard life? Why there are no tips for those underdogs like me brought to better country by parent but still unable to have a normal life? 28 years I live are wasted. Psychologists should give tips how to accept impossibilities of marginalised people like me with less pain and harm, how to accept reality. And I see nothing about this on internet. And I have no money and no insurance to get a right help. Don't forget my case when you talk about depression. How should I fight it? Can you tell me?

How do you know if your therapist isn't a good fit for you?
@neurotransmissions
@neurotransmissions 4 жыл бұрын
I suppose it’s a feeling. Do you feel connected, safe, not judged? And if not, is that because of a problem you’re having or is it a response to your therapist? Your therapist can still be quite qualified, but just not the right person for you. It just depends.

You are right! IFS is another evidence-based practice that can be used with depression. Although I could see limitations if the client doesn't have some sort of external support system. Thoughts?

Neuro Transmissions I don't know a lot about it honestly I just heard some good thinks about it. I'm not familiar enough to say why you'd need an exernal support system. I think it's more to do with personifying various attitudes within yourself as if they were a "family" living inside your head.

The soundscape in this video is really really busy; it sounds like the music is fighting rhythmically with the prosody of your speech. Background music with a distorted synth combined with the room sound in the microphone (might want to look at getting some acoustic foam) also make it quite jarring. If you listen to most videos with background music, it's something not as busy (longer beats, no staccato-chords) and has a more vague rhythm (no steady eighths, but something dynamic like a solo piano jazz piece). Distortion in the synth is also something that calls a lot of attention to itself.
@neurotransmissions

Hey there! Thanks for your comment. You're right that the soundscape is a bit busy. I was editing sound using headphones and, as such, the levels on the background music is a bit high. That's happened to me before, so I apparently didn't learn my lesson. 😝 A bit quieter and it would've been perfect. It's funny you mention room sound. I actually did try to surround my mic with sound dampening, but still got a nasty reverb. Ah well. Live and learn! Thanks for watching!

Well then you don't get the point of my comment. It's not to berate the makers of the video, but to allow them a chance to improve the quality and widen their viewerbase. I've seen much worse videos as well, but just pointing that out is not going to help anyone make better vides.

I feel you. I've been depressed for almost a decade and taken antidepressants for 5 years and had therapy for 3,5. I feel sometimes frustrated that the depression don't seem to be going away. Even my insurance company seems to be starting to suspect I'm just trying to get money for free when my disability isn't improving. I've tried all sorts of things: diet, exercise, supplements, cutting ties with toxic people, meditation, body therapies, functional medicine, but they seem to only alleviate the problem for a short period of time. Lately I've come to realization that I have C-PTSD which seems to explain why the problems are a lot deeper than I thought at first. Also all the stress and mental struggle has messed up the homeostasis in my body and now I've developed also fibromyalgia. I suspect I might have CFS too.. Trying to fight just to survive on daily basis is so tiring. Sometimes I wonder what still keeps me going when it would be so easy to just give up.

When you never recognised depression. Because you thought you finally were normal, cause you were in some form of therapy at the moment. Also.during a diagnosis period, but like rigging it because you didn't want to say how miserable your life was. Cause you wanted to be normal. (ADHD diagnosis was quite stressful and self hateful for 8 year old me....) I had a period of my life where I didn't want to go to school. Like my mom had to literally drag me. Another one where i cried in the toilets during class like easily twice a day. Where I wanted to kill myself. One where I maybe would have. But I was to young, and didn't know yet that suicide was an actual thing people did. But I am fine now. I have depressive episodes. Especially when something a bit stressful happens. But I learned to deal with it. After all those behavioural things, self acceptance and understanding things. Which I did multiple of. Also physiotherapy, cause of my awfull motor skills. I got from granddad. Literally If I didn't do that as a 3 year old. I would not be able to catch something. My parents stopped forcing me to do those things. 3 years later. It just stopped, gradually became happier and realised that my experience actually wasn't normal. That the only reason people don't cut themselves is that they don't know where to. Because nobody can find out. The episodes of it I get when there goes something wrong. I get physically sick, and really need to force myself to do something I need to do. I'm super scared of consequences. Because I know I am unable to fix it. Also a reason I then do go to school. Or I do go to the gym. Is because the trigger was at home I have been in school crying with my friends. Not saying what was wrong. But also just alone. Because they didn't notice me. Or thought I was just studying. Talking to someone.usually helps the thought loop. But not about it. That makes it worse. And when the conversation ends. It all comes back.

I think the best cure for depression is being chased by a bear. You either get away and realize how much better life is not being chased by a bear, or you don't get away and realize you life was pretty good before being eaten by a bear.
