in future might be worth giving those types of tight bolts a few good wacks with a big hammer to try to shock them a bit to help undo it

I would like to but not in the budget right now. They just came out with a tubular cross member too. Real nice. Ive spent a lot of work on the front with bushings and all so Ill ride with that for now (:

You could’ve kept the timing belt on and put the crank bolt back on so then when you take the bolt out of the VVTI gear you just hold the crank gear still with a ez bar and the belt will stop the VVTI gear from moving

Tell me you spotted the broken crank belt pulley key... Make sure you replace that! The belt WILL end up riding againt the crank aux/anti-vibe pulley and will give you problems!

I thought that rachet was gone too. Took off my 7Ms bolt bent a 3/8" breaker bar before going up to half drive which is way more appropriate for Toyota i6 crank pulleys. Never marked my belt then again I most likely will since vvti is an interference engine when I get one and the 7m wasn't however I did follow TSRM when re installing for the hell of it also pretty much have to anyway if you're going to hook a timing light up to that ole 80s engine.

Bro I know this is a little late but please tell me you replaced the little tab thats broken to the bottom right of your timing belt crank pulley!

Yes I made a new one out of like 1/2 aluminum plate.

I got most of my parts from driftmotion. I didn’t buy a vvti solenoid o ring tho, however they probably have it

you forgot to remove the tab next to crank gear probably broke one of the teeth on crank gear

The tab broke which I replaced but it didn’t break any of the teeth on the crank gear.

It’s supposed to keep the timing belt from jumping a tooth

hey man i noticed something you kinda fucked up , i recently pulled a 1jzge out of my car and kinda did the same thing you're doing here ( pulled shit apart and learned while doing so lol)... anyhow i was kinda cringing when you were using your jig to pull off the crank gear and then your puller ...... there is a small tab held in by a single 10mm bolt, just below the crank gear to the right, pretty sure its there to stop the gear from falling out accidentally lol, i can see in the video after you've pulled the gear off that it has been snapped off (pause at 16:13), not sure if you realised you did this (looks like you may have at 14:58)as you said it was rather difficult but it shouldnt be once you get it moving, but anyway just a headsup for anyone watching this and also for yourself , as you said you really dont want to damage any of the splines on the back of the gear which im pretty sure are what would have snapped the tab off! peace anyways, cool vid good luck with the car :)

HEY good eye. You are right I did break that Little tab. But it defentetly doesn’t not hold on the gear. It’s actually used to stop belt slap or the belt jumping. Which IMO is not necessary. It’s a weak alum tab that if the the belt wanted to jump it’ll do it. So I didnt bother reinstalling. Only time will tell

that makes sense lol, when i encountered it i wasnt really sure whats its purpose was, i came here for some tips as im about to buy my 1st car with this motor and R154 combination, so thanks for the info and helping me prepare while i wait for the car to enter my country, im pretty excited to say the least, got a sub from me, be cool to see what someone else is building
