He talks right after all these mentioning how it's wild to perform these with them since he watched them on the sing off from his couch at home and mentions being excited about being part of the future of ptx. So they dont just gloss over that! 😂

Yea I think Kirstie and Scott were trying to hype and cheer him up the whole time - like how Scott looks at him in admiration during Evolution of Music and Kirstie glances at him during Jolene and when they mentioned how they did a lot of collaborations. And this whole comment section I think is also trying to be a positive voice for him. As positive of a person as he is, I did sense some sadness/discomfort from him during the storytimes. I'm sure it sometimes gets to him that he doesn't share the memories with the band that the four other members do with each other and how he is often compared negatively with Avi. I'm glad to see so many people, including members of the band, took notice of him during this performance. But yeah, like the above commenter said, he did have a whole special part which was cut out of this video where he explained how he joined the group.

Honestly, it was uncomfortable for me to watch them perform The Sing Off tunes. Those songs that created the original group I view as sacred, and yes Avi had a more light-bearing, spiritual deepness to his bold bass. They just don't sound the same; not bad, but not the same. The differences between all the members (reflected in their clothing in the beginning) was what made the group so interesting. I love Matt as a replacement because he came in the door with a confident more commercial look which is where the band was going (bigger production, more sparkly clothes, more lights). It's just when you go back to their roots, the differences are really noticeable and their roots are what attracted me to them.

It would be easy for a new person to feel defensive or act out or try to overprove themselves when stepping in to a role like that. And especially with how rude some "fans" have been and still continue to be. But Matt handles it so well, at least what he shows us. He doesn't give the negativity any airtime or fuel any kind of feud or comparison. He just continues on doing his best with a great attitude, and I respect him so much for that! He's him and he does his thing. Respect!
