Lands not worth much with needles acting as land mines for any construction crew… cleaning costs alone mean it’s worthless in the long run. Why improve when you can move aussies in the system to Alice Springs and other shit holes while moving illegal asylum seekers into the big cities housing areas to fill the “Diversity” and “Multicultural” quotas…
@Squizziles
@Squizziles Ай бұрын
Not worth much with cleaning costs in the long run. Can’t pay people to pick up and clean blocks of needles literally no one wants to do that shit. Also not to mention that Aussies are being moved to places like Alice Springs and other out of the way/picture ghettos to move in the asylum seekers and illegals to fill the DEI and “multicultural” quotas in the big cities. People who don’t care about the needles because they’ll literally shit in the streets.. because it’s what they do where they come from and they have no plans on actually adjusting or contributing to the system that they will only ever drain from the taxpayer….

THIS is the Spanian Video I like A LOT because its shows struggles, hardship and ordinary members of the community making a difference. I have watched every episode exploring Public Housing across Australia. South Maroubra is pretty tame. I grew up in South Maroubra (aged 3 - 20s). I went back there regularly as my mother still lived there until about 2019. South Maroubra had Navy accommodation, and there were still some people with Navy connections there when we moved into our unit block in the early 90s. We did have the Bra Boys in the area in the 90s. They always put the rambunctious people near Lexington (Lexo). I was still able to walk to and from school and play in the streets with other kids without ever being hassled. You never saw needles on the ground on the streets or in the old metal playgrounds they had for kids (with those merry go grounds, rough slides, and jungle gyms). I was aware of people saying there were pedophiles near the large flats on Fitzgerald Ave. In saying that, it could be a bit rougher now depending on who has moved into the area. You had the soldier settlement in Matraville. I always found the townhouses at Matraville to be a bit more gross and rough. You were calling it Duffy's after Duffy's Corner which used to have a Duffy's fruit and vegetable market, a mad chicken shop, a bakery with great cinnamon donuts, and newsagent. They rebuilt Duffy's corner into subpar units/townhouses with shops, but they still retained the name. At Lexo, the hub used to be a TAB. So, the stores in the 90s were the TAB, bottle shop, video store, chemist, wholesale cake store, fish n chip takeaway, GP, butcher, Food 4 Less (supermarket), and I am pretty certain there was a furniture maker. The bakery came much later and then the Duffy's chicken shop moved to Lexo for a bit in place of the fish and chip shop. I think the stabbing at the bakery occurred in the early 2000s, so it was true what was said about the person upstairs getting angry with the owner for their early morning starts. La Perouse is rough and so is the stuff around the correctional complex in Long Bay. South Coogee was less pleasant than South Maroubra. I was also at Daceyville from birth to aged 3, but not on the soldier settlement side. The mad houses were originally for returned soldiers and widows (WW1).

Oh the most excitement was when the TRG turned up in response to some clown who was making his own fireworks and setting them off in his lounge room! LOL Late at night I saw these black shapes moving around behind the letterboxes and was trying to figure out what they were. Then suddenly they all ran towards the ramp of the units that guy was in and stormed into his unit. They even through a flash-bang through his window as the others broke down his door.

Just to correct your history - it wasn't Captain Cook that settled in Botany Bay. Captain Cook actually only landed briefly on the southern part of Botany Bay at Kurnell earlier in 1770. Arthur Philip came into Botany Bay with the First Fleet on the 18th January 1788, but he found the place unsuitable and he moved up to Sydney Cove where he landed with the convicts on the 26th January 1788. It was the Frenchman La Perouse who was coming into Botany Bay as Arthur Philip was leaving on the 24th January. He actually landed at Frenchmans Beach (near present day La Perouse) stayed a few weeks, then sailed off into the Pacific, leaving the country to the British.

I have never hung out in the housing commission areas. But South-East Sydney is a good place to live. Easy to get the city, close to major shopping centres and services, on the coast and still a lot of green space. Also even though there is no train, there has always been frequent buses along Anzac Parade so you can get to the city, Randwick or Bondi very easily.

I didn’t expect much from this video but growing up in Lexington place myself and seeing these area’s I’m glad the way they spoke about the prison in Bilga and the fact that this is all on the beaches. Maroubra was a surfing town so they accommodated by building huge amounts of community housing to house them as they weren’t working and spending time in the ocean. It’s good to see that it’s quietened down but there’s still a lot happening behind the scenes and sad for kids growing up with drugs and broken homes.

I’m from Daceyville and it’s not that bad. In fact, it’s mostly a senior dominant area where everyone knows each other. Majority people living here have been here since the 90s or so, and for the most part it’s a chill area. You got the odd block of flats & town houses which you passed that attract a sketchy crowd lol, but otherwise no dramas. Also, a lot of the places are being sold once the tenants pass away or move out, in the next 10 years I reckon Daceyville won’t be a houso-dominant suburb anymore.

I was in Parramatta girls home as a teenager and we were fed breakfast with weevils in it, scrubed concrete with rocks embedded in it on our hands and knees for hours till the scrubbing brush wore down. Locked in a dungeon for days with only a canvas mattress on the floor that was dragged out every morning so you sat on concrete floor all day no windows. 2 minute showers humiliation of body checks everyday just in case you scratched something into your skin. And our only crime was running away from home. This was one of Australia's shame the Government needed us to do the washing for the mental hospital. Love your videos cannot wait to see the next.

Had mates that got locked up the next generation learnt that crimes doesn’t pay and changed for the better. Most went to trade school and own multi million dollar properties. The streets that divide the Maroubra Housing Commission blocks are named after American warships that engaged in in the Battle of the Coral Sea. The land on which the blocks were built used to be a speedway. Nearby Heffron Park was the site of a naval storage facility. Malabar and Maroubra are unique suburbs. Long Bay Gaol is not only surrounded by housing commission but also houses that are worth millions. I went to a local public high school and the good thing about it was that mirrored Australian society. There were kids from families grappling with poverty as well as the middle class, a multitude of ethnic backgrounds.

I moved to Maroubra in about 2020 and started sussing the history of local area. Bit of side info here for ya. I recently did a bunch of research into Maroubra beach and Malabar headland. I found out that between the 1960's-1980s the headland was used as an industrial dumping ground. We talking chemicals, paints, building materials etc. its hard to find info, and non of the locals i spoken to know about it. My point is that these chemicals leech down to the beach and contaminate the water and local area. Copper, lead, mercury, iron, ammonia and all sorts. they tried to stem the tide (lol) by introducing 3 leeching pools down the hill from the headland, so when it rains all these chemicals go into the pools instead of the beach. But when it rains these pools overflow anyway and the results are expected. Local authorities claim that its relatively nonhazardous but i dont fkn trust them. on windy rainy days you can smell the chemicals from a km away, and i mean it reeks c*nt. There are signs up around the beach that say not to swim for 48 hours after rain. Wtf is that? local government corruption/ignorance? certainly back in the day. If anyone reading this has more info on the headland chemical/dumping ground id be keen to hear about it. This is a problem that will not go away without human intervention and the local flora and fauna suffer big time. Its gota be the closest dumping ground to a populated area in Sydney i reckon. Great work Spanian keep it up, welcome to the hood.

Idk about chemicals but I’ve heard it’s contaminated with sewerage a lot. There’s a wastewater plant there and I think that’s what smells… the no swimming after rain thing is because overflowing sewerage and stormwater from the streets ends up in the ocean and contains god knows what.

As much as I feel for people in public housing neighborhoods, many of them (not all) are unfortunately responsible for the detriment of their society and its conditions. Some arent poor by choice, but many are poor as a result of their choices. Shops and services constantly being robbed/vandalized and workers/government employees not feeling safe, which leads to a detriment of service offerings. That, combined with land being in demand everywhere by all classes of people, means the housing has to go in areas where its cheap. Its not a perfect scenario, but what is the solution?

So well put! I spent my early 20s around the Waterloo Redfern area, and while I wasn’t living in housing or anything, I was pretty poor on a very very low starting salary. I spent a lot of time walking those streets and I was always fascinated by the lives of the people around the area, especially The Block, Waterloo towers etc. I lived there before The Block was gentrified and I remember being obsessed with reading stories about its upcoming development and being appalled what was happening to the residents. I always wanted to get to know these people and hear from them and learn about their lives, but it’s not a world you can just walk into. I was always told don’t go to The Block if you’re white - you’ll get robbed, bashed etc. It scared me off. But that’s the impact of Spanian. He gives us a lens into that world without crossing the line into ‘poverty porn’. That’s something only few can do. It’s relatable because he’s real. He lived it. He has respect and love for everyone and shows this world in a way that fosters understanding. You can see by the way people crowd around they’re so happy to finally be seen and have someone show love. I can see him really changing the world if he keeps going. Dude is smart, articulate and has an infectious personality.
