Pudelpointer is a versatile hunting dog breed from Germany that came from a cross between the German hunting poodle (pudel) and the English Pointer. This hunting breed is friendly and eager to please, but they also have a lot of energy.

In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Pudelpointer that you might not know.
A Quick Overview:
Group: Working Dogs
Weight: 40 to 65 pounds
Height: 21 to 27 inches tall at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 10 to 14 years
When the Pudelpointer is in action and in hunting mode, they love to have a little fun while they work. They can be a little rambunctious, but they always manage to get the job done. The Pudelpointer's frolicsome hunting attitude doesn't always carry over to home life. Instead, the Pudelpointer tends to be calm and thrives on snuggle sessions and lots of attention from their favorite human.
Because they have such a high energy level, Pudelpointers might form some destructive habits around the home if they're not properly exercised. This means the Pudelpointer might not be the best choice for someone leading an active life outside of the house -- when they cannot bring their Pudelpointer, of course! One of the Pudelpointer's most prized personality traits is their eagerness to please. This hunting breed needs a human with a firm handle on training, but with some consistency early on, training your Pudelpointer should go smoothly.

I have been running a poodle pointer (after German Wirehaired Pointers) for a number of years and have passed all the exams of the German Hunting Dog Association. A very good summary of the character of this breed! It's a great family dog and you can certainly have a poodle pointer even if you are not hunting. But basically I think a poodle pointer has to be in a hunter's household.

Owner of a 4 yr old male, your assessment is accurate on all except for 2, or at least with mine. He’s a hunting machine yet when he’s inside the house, he is very quite, never barks, and doesn’t take much exercise! It’s like a light switch, he can turn on or off depending on what I need him to do. Also, with kids he’s a teddy bear, and isn’t aggressive what so ever.

I have had a pudelpointer for 6 years. she is the best hunting dog i have ever had. everyone is surprised when i tell them how old she is, because she still has the energy of a puppy. i don't ever want another breed. the only con i have for owning one is having to listen to people talk about their doodle mutts when you tell them the breed name as if it is the same thing. i have to say something along the lines of "she's a pudelpointer, P-U-D-E-L pointer all one word. it is a german hunting breed that has been around since the 1800's." i don't hate mutts. mutts from the pound are almost always excellent companions. i just don't like mutts that were purposely bred like doodles. working dogs that get to do what they were bred for have the absolute best lives.

My first female lived to 15. But only hunted to ten because of knee issue. My Big Boy is going strong at 8. The disposition between female to male were completely different. But both were and are great hunters that helped me put birds in the bag. Love ‘em

What were the differences between the two? Was one more laid back or have more drive?
@davidparsons6517

@@davidcudlip6587 Are female had such a great disposition around the house and grandkids. Everyone loved her. In the field she had more drive than BigBoy but that can be negative for endurance and hunting behind her on wild Pheasant. Seen her track downed Pheasant that I would not have believed without seeing it. Big Boy does not track like that. Big Boy is all boy around the house. I don’t how many time he’s clipped off one of the grandkids and put to the ground. If someone has something he’s has to check it out. Put him in the field and he is your best bud. He knows where you are at and paces his hunt. When it’s late in the day he just gets stronger. But I have been blessed with two great hunting dogs. Use there strength to your advantage.

@@davidparsons6517 I hunted with a Griff that I had for 13 years. We hunted in 7 different states for grouse, woodcock, pheasant and quail. Great dog in the field, always checked back at where I was and a laid back clown at home. I'm checking out Pudelpointers for my next gun dog.

How do these dogs compare to the Brittany?

@user-wq7jj9zr9r 5 ай бұрын
Me personally, no comparison. I have 2 PP, both are the same and different at the same time. But only get one if you hunt. They are the best dog ever, again my opinion, but let's keep them for the job they were bred to do. Hunt dog...yes. House/show dog...no.

Don't get a pudelpointer if you're not going to hunt!!!! Get a regular pudel if you only want a companion. Please don't ruin another breed by introducing things it wasn't meant for!!!

A gorgeous Pudelpointer comes to our local dog park and plays with our Doberman. I had never heard of the breed before. The lady that brings him told me about the history behind this breed, and I found it fascinating. Her son is the owner and is an avid hunter, so this dog actually gets to do what she was bred to do. She’s also very patient with the puppy that lives in the same house with her and is a surrogate mother to that puppy. 🤎
