Existence is literal pain for these chunk potatoes. People think their boggle eyes are so cute and their wrinkles and shit but in reality they are quite literally one sneeze away from popping outta their socket like a poorly built squeeze toy. People need to stop buying them, breeders need to stop breeding them.

I think we should stop breeding them so we could stop having these things so suffer there whole lives

THATS why I specifically don’t want to be around bull dogs or pugs. I feel bad just looking at them knowing that the way their breed gives them health issues. The snorting isn’t cute, it’s just sad

What in the actual fuck are you talking about? I have three pugs the oldest is 14 and when she had to be intubated she was put to sleep. No, it's not more comfortable for them to stay awake, that's absurd. Please stop spreading misinformation. Pugs have breathing problems, but it only gets bad when it's really hot or when they exercise too much, they breathe normally the vast majority of time.

Yes! A retro pug is a much better choice than the classic pug, they don’t have a elongated soft pallet and poor facial structure that can cause them to be unable to breathe unlike the regular pug

I have a pug and she is not in agony and is very happy to lie around with you and go on short walks if you take care of them well as you should with any dog pugs can be happy heathy dogs.

@@judesmithmaddock6200 I mean agony is a bit of a exaggeration but they still live their entire lives in discomfort due to their short snouts making it hard for them to breath and it’s also advice just to not buy any dog that isn’t from a shelter or something like that, most breeders are abusive and sell dogs in to dog fighting rings and to people who use them as bear bait.

@@judesmithmaddock6200 sometimes when dogs need certain work done at the veterinarian, they get breathing tubes put down their throat. Normally, dogs can't wait to get that tube out because it's uncomfortable, but pugs will have no problem with the tube, because it helps them breath way easier than if it weren't there. Pugs were bred for aesthetics. The pushed back snout and big eyes looks cute, but it has hard time breathing and their eyes are at a MUCH higher risk of popping out, because their eyes aren't actually "big", they just bulge out further than normal.

All pugs have some type of problem just by being pugs.

I lost my pug to seizures. I love pugs but I dont think what humans have done to them is good.

I get these random flashbacks of her and it breaks my heart that I cannot have anymore new memories with her🥺 but I’ve been feeling a bit better now that I know she is no longer in pain. Seriously, I'm sick of all of these internet moralists who've never had a pug talking about what they're like. They're happy dogs that live for a long time if you care for them properly (just like any other dog!). We got our guy the soft palate surgery around the same time we got him fixed as a puppy and he barely snores, is super active and loving, and has never experienced any serious health stuff. He's asleep next to me right now as quiet as a church mouse.

Rescuing is like buyimg secondhand. As long as there's demand the supply will keep up. Please choose healthier dogs that aren't suffering every minute of their lives.

@@VirgilOvid if you're insistent on a breeder then yes, choose a healthier dog. But shelters are just where you get dogs that were abandoned. Just because a pug is disabled doesn't mean they're any less worthy of love and affection. And breeders gain nothing from those shelters. If every person in the world got a pug from a shelter and not a pug breeder, those breeders would not gain anything from it and they would die out. It's like if one of your products got lost and then somebody started reselling it, you'd be pissed because you're not profiting from your work. And shelters do not bother with supply and demand, so classic pugs would in fact slowly die out as a breed.

Indeed. And they are NOT an easy breed to take care of. They have lots of health issues, the biggest one about their breathing of course. Lots of them NEED surgery to not suffer. But people are love blinded and do not see it. Many pugs have such narrow nostrils that they struggle to breathe. Compare it to breathing through a plastic straw... It's horrible. You should see two round holes and the inside of a dog's nose. Otherwise, they need surgery... Another thing is that their skeleton is the only thing that shrinked in the breeding process. The soft tissue is still, more or less, packed in that tiny small space which also makes it very hard for them to breathe. If your pug or other short nosed dog/cat "snores" or does any type of weird sound when they're not sleeping - it's a breathing problem and they need your help. They most likely need or would benefit from surgery. And surgery is EXPENSIVE. Don't get a pug unless you have thousands of dollars ready to help your dog with these types of issues.

Adopting a pug should be totally fine- they deserve happy lives and owners that care for them so adopting one from a shelter would be ok- it's the breeding and buying of these little guys that should stop

@@therealspeedwagon1451 It’s not the smallness, nor the wolf likeness, but the face in pugs. Brachycephalic animals should not be being bred. With many other dogs, their specific health problems don’t effect all or even most dogs, and the ones that do, often only in old age. All pugs suffer all the time, it’s not compared say to the increased likelihood of back issues that dachshunds suffer which can be avoided entirely by many of the breed.

I am very happy to tell you that people are doing and have done what you are asking, there is an increasing movement of people trying to ban breeding of pugs as well as people breeding pugs with Jack Russell Terriers to create a "Retro Pug" which have the personality and demeanour of a Pug but do have a snout and no breathing problems!

Breeding over time has shrunk their skull, so everything soft tissue is way to big. Brain, eyes, tounge, nose canal, skin, and so on.

That is extremely rare and usually the result of an injury. Pugs are generally healthy and happy as a breed, when bred responsibly.

Pugs are absolutely disgusting dogs. They’re messy, dirty, snore. And they don’t even look that cute either. And if not that, it’s cruel to even breed them because most spend their lives with breathing and sight issues. And, they only live up to 10 years! Less then normal dogs!
