Shooting these types of pump action BB guns carnival style is fun and challenging at the same time. Which one do you think came out on top?

I really enjoy this channel because you mostly stick to the affordable guns. This is the first time I've seen the No. 25 in action. It looks way cool to shoot; I might have to fork out some more $ to get one some day. Not surprised you had trouble at 50 feet, as it's rated at only 350 fps, only about 100 fps higher than the Red Ryder. In fact, you can use the Red Ryder "Shooting Gallery" with a rubber mat that acts as a bb catcher, allowing young shooters to shoot their Red Ryders and Bucks indoors, in the basement. The box says "don't shoot anything over 350 fps" with this. So you could shoot the No. 25 even with that Red Ryder shooting gallery. A little historical information about the No. 25: I have been doing a little research on the history of the Daisy 880, and I purchased the "It's A Daisy!" history of the first 90 years of the Daisy company, written by son of one of the founders, and then himself a long time president/head of the company dude of Daisy, Cass Hough. Cass kept a diary over the years, and used that as a reference to various decisions made that resulted in some of Daisy's most famous guns. He writes about Charles Fred LeFever, the engineer/inventor behind the No 25. In late 1911, Lefever, who was from St. Louis, wrote a letter to Ed Hough at Daisy in Plymouth, MI. It said "I have designed and built a model of a pump action air rifle, which I would like to have you see with a view toward its manufacture." Hough delayed answering, so Lefever, sent another letter saying Daisy wasn't the only company in the air rifle business, and if they didn't act properly, he would go elsewhere. Normally, this would offend a company president, but Hough was intrigued by the boldness of this guy, so Hough traveled to St. Louis (not the other way around) to see what LeFever had to offer. When Hough saw the plans, he realized this was pretty sophisticated for the time, and made LeFever an offer. LeFever sort of accepted stating "Well , if you're really deadly serious about making this gun, I'll come to Plymouth for a few months to get you started, but that's all." He stayed until 1953. It took more than a year to engineer and produce the tools for the first pump gun, but by 1913 they had a prototype to show. It went into full production in 1914, and over 8,000,000 copies of the gun were produced by the time Cass Hough wrote his book in 1976. I would not of typed all this, except when I saw this video, I thought I remembered reading about this engineer who made a pump gun that was supposedly still around. When I saw this video, and the stamped engraving on the receiver, I thought, "that's the gun!" and looked it up. Hope you enjoyed the story.

@@brianwilke592 Wow! Thanks for taking the time to share the history of the No. 25.👍 I didn’t know much about this gun and did a little bit of reading before posting this video. I had no idea it had been in production for such a lengthy time. As a kid visiting my grandparents house one summer I was out shooting BB guns with a neighbor kid that lived nearby. He had a No. 25 and I’d never seen anything like it. I was impressed at how quickly he could shoot compared to my Crosman 760 Powermaster. Decades later I was shopping for a lever action BB gun for my oldest daughter and I saw the No. 25 available and I ordered it for myself and a 105 for her. I’ve not shot this No. 25 very much, I bought it more out of nostalgia and curiosity more than anything else. I can see how it could be shot indoors with a rubber backstop. Thanks for the kind words about my channel. I seem to gravitate to the guns commonly found in the big box stores or sporting goods stores. I’ve got a number of expensive European springers but don’t tend to shoot them very much. I guess at the distances I shoot in my yard they are kind of overkill and I evidently like to collect airguns 🤣 so I tend to keep acquiring new guns that don’t cost a fortune.

I'm blind in my right eye thanks to the #25. I had to switch to left handed. Naturally my #25 was long gone by the time I left the hospital. No more bb guns until I was an adult. I'm an airgun junkie now pushing 70. I mostly shoot paper and cans, haven't hunted in 30 years. I mostly shoot pcp now, but collect old BB/pellet guns and replicas. I have more old Daisy's than Crosmans but the older guns are usually more accurate than the new ones. I've just ordered the parts to salvage two more all metal 880's, one of which is the first edition. Anyways, enjoyed the video its a fun hobby. I'll hit that subscribe for you.

@@playcheapguitars Oh dang, that’s tough to hear about your eye. 🙁 I’m definitely way more partial to the older Crosman and Daisy guns than most of the new ones. The No. 25 was neat to shoot and relive unscrewing the bb tube from the barrel like my very first Daisy lever action gun. Super cool to hear to restoring 880’s back to working order! 👍

Enjoyed your video. Grew up with a Crosman 1400 and Blue Streaks. Dad had a Crosman barrel pumper BB gun. The same mechanics as the M1 carbine they produced too. Still have my original 1971 blue streak I bought new.

Man, that looks like a lot of fun! 👍 I'm liking that Daisy No. 25, even though the Winchester cycles faster. I've never seen that 25 in action before. I thought you had to pump it like a phnematic pump gun. I wonder how smooth I can get the action. Lol I want one now. 😅 (Hmm my first post disappeared. KZfaq doesn't like me. 😂)

@@jackpotparty58 The No. 25 has a really long and awkward stroke for me. I suspect someone with longer arms might not notice that as much. I’d oiled the pivots and center guide bar with 3 in one oil to see if it’d smooth it out a bit and make it faster to cycle. I discovered the long throw just isn’t as fast as the Winchester. It’s a neat gun to shoot at short distances. 😄

@@airgunsofalaska I'm thinking oil and a slight coat of molly grease. Works wonders on polished triggers. Reminds me, I'm out of 3 in 1 Oil. Lol Do you have an adult Red Ryder? I was curious and I almost ordered one of those when I ordered the rear peep sight. I thought my younger bro was gonna get me one last Christmas because he kept telling me that I was going to shoot my eye out (lol) but he got me the crosman anniversary 362 with discounts.

@@airgunsofalaskait’s a little bit longer. I have both versions and there are fiber optic front sights on eBay that make the red Ryder a little more fun to shoot. Waiting for Daisy to ship me the model 12. With the whole gamut of air guns I have from time to time I just need to shoot the inexpensive Daisy BB guns. Something about them I can’t explain. By the way someone else posted here appreciation for your sight since you review affordable air guns and I couldn’t agree more with that comment. Keep up the good work my air gunner friend.

@@yoitired it’s a pretty neat design, the pump handles glides back and forth along a guide rod. While not as fast to reciprocate, it feels more solid than the Winchester model 12 pump action.

Wow! 96 years old, that’s crazy! My ‘09 model has never seemed very powerful, I’m doubtful it even shoots 350 fps. It might be interesting to chrony it along with my Red Ryder, both of those guns seem weaker than the 105 Buck I bought for my daughter years and years ago.
