one year I made 4 pies, two were pumpkin and the other two were sweet potato pies. My oldest son will eat the pumpkin but not the sweet potato pie. That year both the pumpkin pies were eaten and only two slices of sweet potato pie was left. My son went and got one slice and ate it. He said that was the best pumpkin pie I had ever made. I then informed him that he had eaten sweet potato pie. the look on his face was priceless:)

I made sweet potato pie for the first time a few years ago. I had bought some marked down organic canned sweet potato puree. And I didn't have any canned pumpkin. So I thought why not sub it. We really liked it! Then I started adding the pumpkin spiced rum and it just sent it over the top! I even added some of the spiced rum to my dairy free whipped topping. Yummo!

What memories you brought back to me. As a child I remember my one Grandma making pies, etc. w/pie pumpkins that her & my Grandpa grew. The other is about Jack O Lantern pumpkins. The janitor had his farm across the road from our four room school. Every year toward the third week of October he would load up his trailer w/pumpkins & hitch it to his tractor. Then he would drive the thing over to the school yard & gave each & every student along w/the four teachers & the principal a pumpkin to take home & carve. Thank you Miss Lori. Hi to both you & Mr. Brown.

Funny story my Mom made homemade pumpkin pies one year and accidentally got her salt and sugar mixed up.... and the expression on my stepdads face was absolutely worth all the work it took.... I miss my Mom but watching you cook reminds me of her and all the wonderful things she taught me and cooked for our family 👍🏻💕

My Mom did the same thing one year. Another time, she forgot the salt and sugar completely. It was so funny!! I've made mistakes in the kitchen as well. I can't read/speak spanish. Mom had jars of "gravy" in the pantry, so I made chicken pot pie (stove top). Everyone loved it! Turns out it was "dulce de leche" ...milk caramel. That was just great for a diabetic!! lol

I always say I don’t like pumpkin pie. I like pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins… but pumpkin pie 😐 nope. Not sure if it’s a texture thing, or the spices that are required… not sure really. Actually, I don’t even recall eating pumpkin pie; it may just be a childhood memory kinda thing. I may have to try it (again?)

It's been along time. We could not buy canned they did not have it. But we baked the seeds as a treat aND Poppa would take part seeds and replant. We did this every yr. Than Mum would can the rest. We would have canned pumpkin all winter long and some put away for hard times. Mum left the skin on and mashed it in.. I do not like pumpkin pie, but I love pumpkin cake and bread. Kelley my visiting nurse is going to help me cut my pumpkin this year my hand can't cut the pumpkins anymore, but I love to smell of fresh cut pumpkin and then the smell of the cooking. Many many wonderful memories with Mummy and Grandmum, Great Grandmum. Thank you Love for a lovely memory today. God Bless you all. 👵 🙏

I have made pies out of the grocery store pie pumpkins, but I didn't feel like THAT end product was worth all that effort. I wish I has access to your cheese squash pumpkins. Your description of the smell makes me want to try pumpkin again. But, generally, I use a pumkin pie recipe with my fresh sweet potato flesh. We buy sacks of sweet potatoes from a local farm that are just the best sweet potatoes I have ever had. But now I'm kind of inspired to try to find fresh pumpkins at the farmers market and give it another try with them. Love your videos!

I make my pie crust with lard too. Never baked the pumpkin like that. Always peeled it an cooked it down. But you forgot the most important step. My grandma would take the pie crust that was left over an bake it on a cookie sheet. When it was done she put homemade jam or jelly on it. Then we got to fight over it. I did that for my kids an now my grandkids. I catch a lot of slack at first from the grandsons. Cause grandpa likes to bake, cook, and can. But once they found out they could do it too. I get all the help I need. Just hope they teach their grandkids what I'm teaching them. The memories are wonderful.

An easy way to cut the fat into your flour is to remember what "cut" means. Decades ago, our home ec. teacher taught us to take 2 clean ordinary dinner knives and simply criss-cross them thru the butter and flour. Easier to wash than a pastry cutter, and FAST! =)

Thank you Miss Lori. I've always wondered how to use the pie pumpkins for fresh pie. It does look larping! 😋 I need that large glass measuring bowl/cup you have & the pie crust guard. Blessings to you and Mr Brown.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I have always cooked Thanksgiving dinner by myself for our family and anyone that just pops in. I have never baked a fresh pumpkin pie, but I will this year. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe with us. I pray that you and Mr. Brown have a wonderful weekend filled with God's love and His blessings.

I usually have more pumpkin filling than will fit comfortably in the pie shell. Not to worry or risk a mess. Just bake the excess in a little Pyrex custard bowl(s) next to the baking pie. Usually for half the time the pie takes. That's my own little treat out of the oven if there isn't an aspiring little baker around to "help". My grandmother made pumpkin custard without the crust weekly.

Love your recipes. I've been watching your channel for several months now. I have been craving pumpkin something...anything! I went out and bought four cans of puree today so I guess I'll be baking up a storm. LOL, I usually stop your videos to check the recipe or something right when you lick your lips and there's just a little bit of tongue hanging out lapping up the goodness. I just have to snicker! You remind me so much of my favorite aunt who has passed on. You're a little bit of a treasure to me! I really appreciate all the work you put into your channel, as well as full time work, gardening and putting food up for your pantry. Phew! I don't see where you find all the time to do so much. Kudo for you and Mr. Brown for following your dreams! Bless you both!

I love this time of year, even though it's still hot, I just learned you take your shoes off in the house we always did, as to not ruin them growing up a coal miner's kid money wasn't didn't flow easy mom made us house shoes crocheted of course but after dad's accident much, much, later he has seen it coming thank goodness and prepared and saved him and his work buddy a coal truck was speeding and was overloaded took a curve real fast you can figure out the rest a few tons of coal cover him and his friend took off the top of the car we had the pictures for years like forever they thought both were dead no they saw my dad figure move took them to the hospital he recovered not without some injuries, he lost some grip in his left hand and glass pieces all in him came out afterward.
