Everything about this movie is a delight. One thing that's looked over in this film are the technical aspects. The lighting, camera movements, framing, timing, and EXTREME attention to detail bring this film to a whole other level that most people don't take into consideration. Punch-Drunk Love is a very underrated and unfortunately overlooked film in my opinion, maybe because it's essentially an offbeat romantic comedy? I don't know, but to be honest I think it's a bit ahead of it's time. I mean you can see the influences like Altman and Jacques Tati, but there's just certain elements and details to it that simply no one is really doing in film today.

Well this was the first film he did where he began to wear his Kubrickian influences on his sleeve. Boogie Nights and Magnolia were more Scorcese and Altman, and Hard Eight was more Demme. There Will Be Blood was even more so Kubrickian w/ a bit of John Huston and some Malickian Lyricism. The Master felt like an even further extension of the classicist style he adopted in Blood, w/ him becoming more minimalist and lyrical, and in a sense impressionistic. Inherent Vice is going to kick ass.
