mspeilberg ya you’re right maybe I should waste my life building a toy two unless I have other responsibilities that habit me for doing such ow that right I I wanted one when I was like seven years old but I am a grown-up and you know what people have choices to make they can waste their time away their money but my time is not free it cost you every breath in your lungs and one of the days when you wake up you might realize that instead of wasting your time building a proton pack from a movie premiere childhood days that’s the problem with the world today we care more about the past and not really about the future I think all the good that we could do if instead of wasting time building fake proton pack we put our efforts into saving the ocean or helping a neighbor

@@markdillow1677 Let me get this right...You watched a 48 min video on how to make a proton pack prop...Just so you can trash everyone who watched a 48 min video on how to make a proton pack prop for their hobby...Because they rather spend their time building something, be it with their wife/gf/husband/bf/sex robot/it...and then put it in a display case, up on the wall or use it for a costume for a convention or Halloween around the corner. The time is spent being constructive versus going out and getting drunk, or doing drugs, or walking into walmart and licking ice cream...whatever your kind does that is extremely stupid...I mean, you did upgrade from Tide pods to licking ice cream, so...it's a start... And now you are lecturing people on how they should spend their time? This hobby is not about the past, this is about building something with your hands. This is about the enjoyment of doing something. Most folks would just buy it, but the folks that are watching this video are the ones who are going to forge ahead and make it themselves because they want to see if they can. They are like blacksmiths, or bakers. The should be applauded for the moxy to have the skill set and the ability to work with there hands. You are a sad little person.

I worked for a vacuum forming company and a few tricks you might use to make your work easier is for dowel your buck plate to your form. This keeps it from shifting. Second since you are using a buck plate set up a router table that has the cutting head at the exact height as the buck plate. Then you trim off any of the abs sheet with a sheer table of other tool then you simply use the router table to trim the part down. You can make a simple router type table but use a grinder attatched to a table where the blade is protected by a shield until you move the formed abs part into it. Hope this helps.

for the 4 blinking red lights... I would have lined the cones with reflective foil so the LED's would give off a more even and brighter light.
@prodestrian
@prodestrian 5 жыл бұрын
I think flat LEDs was a poor choice here, you can see the fourth LED is misaligned when the lights are flashing. With round LEDs it wouldn't have been an issue. I'm probably going to go with an 8mm LED per Cyclotron light, and line the interior with foil tape. Hoping to somewhat recreate the old incandescent bulbs they would have used in the film! 😊

I was running through the YT playlist while laying in bed when this vid popped on. I was dozing, slipping in and out of sleep, dreaming. What a crazy dream you guys helped to create. We were in a spaceship made from cardboard, hot glue, and LEDs powered by cardboard batteries. At one point I realised that our technology had improved because we started to connect all the LEDs to the cardboard batteries using wires rather than strings of hot glue. Trippy

Not many folks have the skills to build from scratch anymore. Too time consuming. Cheap, but whats everyone's time worth? I built one from scratch, hand made every single part and took me about 6 months. Used plans from GB fans and had at it. First ever project I made, with sound and lights oh my. Looks spot on comparable to the $$ kits you can buy, BUT , its still a POS compared to the "kits", according to most people who spend oodles of money on them as I found out.

@@tomc8157 I understand and I'm not one to pack shame.. kits, pre-bought or self made.. all great. But, Bill is a prop builder.. he's done some amazing things from scratch. I just really would have loved maybe a small series from him building from scratch and allowing us to see his process.. as he's done in the past. I love this channel and I own some of his books. So I wasn't trying to pack shame or even complain really... just.. I dunno.. Bill could do some amazing mods on his like that dude with the vape smoke.

Great work. Have you tried cutting the plastics(abs) with a oscilating tool? I have hear you mention MEK before, MEK disolves ABS so you can make a 'welding' paste/liquid by disolving waste abs with MEK, just be well ventilated when using MEK. it takes a long time to cure but effectivly welds the ABS together. When making bucks for vac forming we used to make the taller than required and put a score line around it to make a trim line in the form. Negative moulds/bucks can give you sharper lines (like for the shallow disk with the 4 red lights. also easier to get out as ABS shrinks.Can also use baby powder to help release.and blowing air through the vac holes can 'pop' the buck out.

My Favorite line from Ghostbusters 2. *Who you gonna call.!!!* And the children run around crying out *He-man! He-Man! He-Man!* Look at your pack and looking at my Spirit Holloweves Protopack. The Spirit one is totally off scale. Plus! Love what you guys did with your build! A+!

You can also use ABS slurry for gluing and filling just like with 3d printed ABS. It will be a much stronger bond than superglue or resin.

That superglue "welding" technique is exactly what I was looking for, I'm a week or two away from attaching the handles to the Wand and this is going to make a huge difference!

prodestrian glad to help! I used it on some of the tube caps a well, then went back and sanded it down. Makes it look like a grinded weld

I've never seen the screwdriver thing, pressing on the form. I have and was taught (and works really well) to just use a mildly damp wadded up paper towel. The burnishing wheel on the corners... awesome idea, never thought of that. Thanks for sharing =]

I've been working on a 3d printed pack. Designed for 3d printing and shelled for all the electronics. I did all the design work in Fusion from Otto's plans. It cost me $40 in filament to print it.

Baking soda with the CA, acts like accelerant and also creates and epoxy grade bond you can sand.
@BallisticTech

I got the same squeezey bottle Bill uses to apply accelerant. It's great. But warning don't drag the nozzle through the CA glue when you apply the glue and kicker can/will mix on the tip of the nozzle and set. I bought like 10 of them so it wasn't a huge deal but worth noting.

The last time I fiberglassed a mask I sprayed spray adhesive on the inside. Then just ploped the cloth onto that. Lastly brushed on my resin :) I felt it made it cleaner/easier.

15:44 I've had the exact thing happen with that bosh drill as well. Either the collet is not skookum or the sudden deceleration loosens it.

As an added bonus to make it "pop" would be to possibly put light fibre inside the red and blue "tubes" or cables on the back...You could make them light up when the pack is turned on and "ernergised" ready for action.
