Thank you so much for posting this! I noticed something different about the Pur Plus pitcher filters today when I went to restock at my local Target. I always look for the word "lead" on the product packaging to make sure I am getting the one that reduces lead because I live in the DC area where there is known lead contamination in the water pipes. I have used the Pur Plus pitcher filters for years for exactly this purpose and the product has always cited its removal of lead boldly on the packaging. However, I couldn't find anything about lead on the package box today. It seemed wild to me that the Pur Plus pitcher filters would no longer filter lead because that had been such a big hallmark of their marketing campaign over Brita filters, but then I found your video which confirmed that Pur Plus filters no longer filter out lead. It's deeply unsettling to me that Pur made this change so subtly and, as far as I can tell, with very little to zero attempts to make the public aware through marketing or intentional changes to branding. The product still has the exact same name ("Pur Plus"), and the product packaging and description are almost exactly the same except they no longer say anything about lead removal. There is a slight difference in the color of the filter top (it used to be white, now it is a light blue), but that's it. I doubt most people would even notice. However, the lack of lead filtration is an incredibly important difference in the product. Thank you for posting this video and helping to spread awareness!

The standard Pur filters appear to have dropped off the lead removal certification. However, the Pur Plus filters PPF951K still show a standard WQA 53 NSF certification for lead reduction at 99.4-99.7. This is directly from Pur's Performance Data Sheet.

Which version of the performance datasheet are you looking at? It could be outdated. Checking the WQA database, there is no certification to NSF/ANSI 53 for lead reduction for the PPF951K model find.wqa.org/find-products#/keyword/PPF951K

Love your videos! Would you be interested in testing the Vitev water filtration system? The “MAXX alkaline reverse osmosis system” specifically as it’s supposed to use RO to clean the water and then it uses pure minerals to add back in what was lost but needed. Thanks!

We've not personally investigated or tested the Bluevua system, so I can't really provide much insight at this time. That said, I really like the AquaTru aquatru.pxf.io/b3WYGP (aquatruwater.com) and the Waterdrop N1 waterdropus.pxf.io/vnGOPW both of which performed exceptionally well in our testing. What’s your opinion about Crystal Quest pitcher filters? I know that Patriot Pure only takes out 50% of fluoride.

Do you know of any that remove lead but not fluoride? My pediatrician said to have water with fluoride but PUR was our go-to. The others linked seem to also remove fluoride.

Hi, I would be interested in your opinion on the Brita maxtra Pro range, particularly the lime scale filter. My main concern is how they deal with aluminium, and weather. There is more aluminium atefiltration than before stop and if this aluminium is of the safe, inert or unset type.

Hi there, thanks for your comment and question. Honestly, we've not yet investigated nor tested the Brita Maxtra Pro line of filters. Upon a quick search, I see it is a point of use filter designed to reduce a range of impurities using carbon block and ion exchange resin. I do not see that it claims to reduce fluoride.

I checked the box of my pure genuine pitcher filter box it states NSF 42,53 & 401 certified. They are False Advertising. On one side of the box it says its to make it taste better but doesn't remove microbial contaminants on the other side

Not false advertising. PUR filters are certified to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401. Here is a link to the listings info.nsf.org/Certified/dwtu/listings.asp?CompanyName=kaz&submit1=Search+by+Manufacturer&Program=DWTU PUR filters do not remove microbial contaminants, and should not be used to do so.

You are doing everyone a great service water is crucial. I’m now looking into buying a Kangen medical grade water machine have you done any testing on those? I’d love someone who doesn’t sell them to give me an honest opinion before I invest in one. 🙏

Hey thanks for your comment and feedback! We've not yet tested a Kangen machine, so no feedback for you at this point unfortunately. That said, I do know those machines only incorporate basic filtration, so if purity of water is a priority, there are better options out there like reverse osmosis

May have been an older model that the distributor had in stock. When I looked at the models available at Walmart when making this video, I noticed that same thing on the box but they had covered it with a white sticker. If you have concerns, I'd recommend reaching out to PUR directly.

I had heard that Pur's new filters weren't rated to reduce lead, and was disappointed to see it confirmed here (despite the fact that the advertising copy on some websites hasn't been updated yet with this change.) A real bummer because I had been using Pur for years, back to when my daughter was an infant and I used filtered Pur water to make her formula. I guess I'll switch to Clearly Filtered now. Have you done any of your own independent tests to see if Clearly Filtered lives up to its' claims since they are not NSF certified? I know they have their own test results on their website, but I'd like to see independent data from someone I trust.

Oh man, we gotta update our PUR guide. Very surprising move by PUR considering how big a concern lead has become. Maybe it's because they know the LCRI will replace more pipes over the next few years, significantly reducing the chances of your water containing lead.

Poor quality in the last 3 years..wonder if it has anything to do with Covid supply chain disruptions/mergers. The thing smells bad, has bad carbon flakes that spill off into the water when you pour it into your glass, which then can be ingested without knowing. What is going on with their quality control? What brand is recommended over PUR?

PUR pitcher filters seem to be questionable quality. They're made in Mexico. Opened up one recently, it was wet inside the packaging (like condensation). It appears the filtering is more performative and for taste (carbon media) than really anything to really rely on.
