Thinking every production batch of filters, thinking pitcher filters here, might be show a bit different test results. Perhaps depending on the what the source ingredients contained, all we know is that the filters seem to be made with global ingredients- which translates to, IMO, sourced from the cheapest source we could find somewhere on planet Earth.

I have a water softener system that we stopped using last year because of concerns about drinking soft water. Can we use a whole-house system like the Kind E-1000 or Springwell CF in line with the water softener, or is it better to remove the water softener and add the Kind E-3000 or Springwell CF and Salt-Free FutureSoft?
@waterfilterguruКүн бұрын
A whole house filter (like the Kind E-1000 or Springwell CF) targets different contaminants/ water issues than the ion exchange water softener you have. The water softener primarily addresses water hardness, whereas adsorption filters will primarily target contaminants that pose risk with health effects. This article explains the differences in more detail: waterfilterguru.com/water-softener-vs-water-filter/ A water filter does not replace a water softener. If you are on municipal water, it's typically recommended for the water filter to be installed upstream (before) the water softener. This is because the filter will reduce the disinfection chemical (chlorine), which otherwise can damage the resin in the softener and shorten its lifespan. Here's another resource that provides more detail about that waterfilterguru.com/whole-house-water-filter-before-or-after-water-softener/ And finally, water conditioners that use TAC media like the Kind E-3000 or Springwell Futuresoft are intended to address limescale buildup, one of the primary issues caused by water hardness. Depending on how hard your water is, I typically lean towards recommending ion exchange water softeners instead of conditioners like these. Water softeners actually remove the hardness minerals, which is the best way to mitigate their effects on the home's plumbing and appliances. And here's an article explaining the differences between the two waterfilterguru.com/water-softener-vs-water-conditioner/ A point of use reverse osmosis system can reduce the sodium that the water softener adds to your drinking water, if that is the reason you want to avoid drinking softened water. I hope this helps, please let me know if you'd like more clarification.

Pretty cool... The thing that bothers me is from experience in testing water on an hourly basis was my job for 15 years and during high traffic it was every half hour(all above the minimum standard of 2 hours) by the rules in my locality. I noticed during the change of seasons water coming out of the taps was usually coming out measuring 3.0 for chlorine when at any other time it was a lot less around 1.0. Now with pfas there's no telling when a spike could occur, or if there's an influx of many pfas. It seems it can be as arbitrary as the weather. 🤔🤷🏼👀. Do you think there'll be a meter in the future that'll be able to measure this in real time? How far away are we to have this coming to fruition? 👍🏼
@waterfilterguru2 күн бұрын
This is a great point. To be honest, I have no idea. As of now, samples have to be manually analyzed at the lab. Until we address the source of PFAs, I think your point that levels of contaminants in any water source will always be subject to fluctuation

Reading comments here and on other reviews, I'm amazed the almost religious fervor of Berkey users... almost like Scientologists attacking critics and even just basic information. I don't use any of these systems, Berkey or other, just doing research. Can't believe how defensive the Berkey people are... any info that in any way doesn't praise Berkey is immediately dismissed as false, faked, erroneous, or a conspiracy. However, not enough attention is given to Berkey's claim that it filters out bacteria and protozoa. If it does, that's fantastic and it's far better than its competitors, but if that's not true then it's deceptive, dangerous, unethical and borderline evil.
@waterfilterguru2 күн бұрын
Berkey have revoked their claim that it can be used to filter untreated surface water to reduce microbiological contaminants. Failure to comply with regulations and register the product under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) as required lead the EPA to enact a stop-sale order against the manufacturer last year - which lead to the revocation of these claims.

I looked at their lab test results for Fluoride, and the thing that concerned me is that their source water is low in contaminants to begin with. Their water only had 8 micrograms Fluoride/L, but my city water has over 1000 micrograms/L. I emailed the company and asked if that will reduce the percentage of fluoride filtered, as their claim is 97%, and all they said is that a concentration that high will probably reduce the life of the filter. They are publishing results based on unrealistic real world use. Now I still can't find a decent system that is not a complete joke. I wanted something that does not rely on power, but it has become apparent to me nothing worthwhile exists.

In most instances, there won't be fluoride in untreated surface water. Fluoride is added at the treatment plant to prevent tooth decay, or occurs naturally in ground water (well water). But if you're filtering water from a stream which is likely to have pathogenic contaminants like bacteria or viruses, it most likely won't have fluoride.
