Hello. I'm a 31 year old man. Grew up butchering cows and still do a few every year. And I've always felt a level of conviction about the throw away stuff. I've only recently been interested in this process. This is an amazing way to use every bit. Thank you for posting.

As a chemist the emergency vinegar wash is quite correct, Lye is Sodium Hydroxide, it is very very caustic and will cause chemical burns of a very serious nature if not promptly washed off, Vinegar is even better, Lye is very hydroscopic so it absorbs water fast from the air.

I made your soap recipe this morning! I just found your videos this week and you have opened my eyes to a wonderful world of tallow! 😄 Since I found you, this week, I sourced, bought, and rendered 35 lb of beef fat, and I’ve made your healing balm, drawing balm, whipped and solid tallow balm, and this soap recipe. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and Including such great recipes! I am hoping to make your recipe for shampoo bars next, I just need to get some castor oil for it. ♥️

Thank you for the advice about keeping vinegar on hand ! Very helpful for new soapers .
@kellydegaro7180
@kellydegaro7180 2 жыл бұрын
Never, ever, EVER use vinegar on a raw, soap burn! As soon as I saw this advice, I realized you have not been making soap very long. In the event of a raw, soap burn, use fresh, cool, running WATER. WATER ONLY. I’ve been making soap for twenty-five years. While vinegar is an acid, and an acid will neutralize an alkaline base (lye aka sodium hydroxide) this should never be done on the skin. Fresh, running water only! I just began watching your channel and I love so many things about it, but watching your soap making methods is a bit cringe-worthy. Please, PLEASE stop using that crock pot, it is not necessary. Filling it to the brim with raw soap is so unsafe, my jaw dropped. I would hate for a new soap maker to overfill his/her container with RAW SOAP and spill it everywhere. I have too many additional corrective comments (ex: leave lye water outside for 10 minutes as a measurement 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️) , and I dislike sounding so critical but please Marisa, do more research on CP soap making before dispensing what could be, very dangerous advice. I am genuinely expressing concern for your welfare and the welfare of new soap makers. Thank you, however, for this wonderful channel.

Hi Marisa, I've been into soapmaking for quite a while now :-), but never used animal fats so far. Wondering if you use the odorless tallow which has been cleared a few times, or one that has just been rendered once? Does it make any difference in the outcome?
