Ya know, they kind of kept it 'in the family '. Alot of other bands didnt have as many different members throughout the years. So im alright with the post Ronnie band being Lynyrd Skynyrd. Bands like Led Zeppelin who lost a member didnt have that former family/band member to draw from. My favorite post Ronnie song is Born To Run.

I remember the tragic plane crash. I was 15 at the time and one of my friends had tickets to one of the upcoming shows. I had another friend who had the original album with the band and flames in the background. They changed it for obvious reasons. Still one of my favorite bands ever.

People on here need to lighten up about Rickey Medlocke.He is one hell of a musician and would have been a regular member of lynyrd skynyrd the whole time had they needed another guitar player when they first started.Rickey didn't want to play drums so thats why he left and started blackfoot.Besides the guitar he can play the drums,mandoline,keyboards,and banjo,and can hold his own as a musician anyday.

I never realized just how much a debt we fans owe to Judith VanZandt , Ronnie's wife. What a beautiful soul she is. She helped so much from the very beginning, if it wasn't for her car we might never have heard of Skynard. Funny how people seem to come together when they need to and make something bigger than themselves. RIP Ronnie, thanks for sharing your dream with us.

Usually I dont care about a band using it's name to sell tickets but some band names are just different and should be respected . These guys know they are not Lynyrd Skynyrd . With all respect Ronnie's brother does not have any of his charisma . And Artimus or Bob Burns were world class drummers capable of driving a big rock band.

Watch the Freebird BBC live version on YT. IMO it's the best version other than the studio of course. Allen tears it up. Guitar was smokin'. I've heard Freebird 10,000 times on the radio like anyone else but never knew their names other than RVZ but after I watched the BBC version of FB I know them all. A livin' legend is irreplaceable.

I’m building a guitar from wood from the Hell House original Dock, and foundation from Hell House, and incorporating metal from the plane. Once it’s complete we will loan it out to touring musicians so those timber’s will continue to sing and vibrate. LLLS. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd.. if anybody knows Gary Rossington I’d love for him to sign it when complete, or donate a pick, or something I can incorporate into it. Tell him to hit me up.

Ricky Medlock fronted Blackfoot....what's up with coming across like he was there in the band during Skynyrd's "lean years?" VH1 got their facts wrong in this one. Medlock didn't officially join Skynyrd until the 90's. His "dying young/looking good in the coffin"remark was a TOTAL INSULT!! Also they left out Tammy Van Zant, whose mother Nadine was Ronnie Van Zant's FIRST wife. Tammy was 10 in 1977.
@TheFruitloop1866 жыл бұрын
@ vicki Medlocke played drums on an early LS album and has filled in numerous times before the 90s. And that comment about " Die young and leave a good looking corpse" has been around since dirt in the South, so I would hardly say it's an insult.Everyone's heard it way before the plane crash.

So when did Rickey actually step into the scene? It is sort of confusing, because he sang a couple songs on the Skynyrd First and Last album. That title is also kind of confusing, was it a collection of songs recorded at the beginning, and also some recorded after Street Survivors? Anyone know?

apparently he was involved with the writing and recording in 71 and 72. Helped out with drums and vocals according to wikipedia.

So What... I dont see where anyone said Rickey is not a good musican. I see them saying he is not and never was part of Skynyrd. If it was not for Skynyrd. there would have been no Blackfoot. Another lil tid-bit of info. If it was not for Jakson Spires there would have been no Blackfoot. Jakson wrote all the Blackfoot songs. Lyrics & Music. No label wants a frontman that cant write a song to save his life. So Spires agreed to let them add Rickey's name on the Albums as a co-writer.CHECK IT!!

Southernborn761 You say if not for RVZ there would have been no Johnny Van Zant Band ? Man, you've got your time lines all screwed up. Johnny was only 16 when Ronnie died. Johnny formed the Austin Nickels Band when he was around 18 then it morphed into the Johnny Van Zant Band.

The hell i dont.. Yes Shorty did write Train Train. But i figured i would give you something to come back with. Yeah i know this was the only i left out. Due to "limited characters". Rickey is a LIAR!! He would have to be a part of Skynyrd for him to be able to leave. He never was. If RVZ didnt help a lot of people. We would never had Blackfoot , Molly Hachett , Johnny VanZant Band , the Outlaws & many more. That would never got contract's if not for RVZ. Spires allowed Rickey to be a co-writer.

Dont let ricky confuse you. He is WAY OVER STATEING his time in the early Lynyrd Skynyrd days. not richie... Was he around? yeah. he was never a member to rejoin the band. he played a few times when the drummer was sick or did a very short stint in the band. original member not hardly. A good musician? Damn Right he can play. Give credit where credit is due. playing for close to 60 years. he better be able to play. But yes he is over stateing his time with early skynrd.. hanger arounder at best.

Who was Rickey sleprock married to? Sherry Spires... Jakson spires little sister. She knows more than me and you. But she would know the facts. Rickey is a good musician. but he cant write a song to save his life. but you can keep thinking he wrote these songs. when he didnt. he heard the song or bought it from someone else or he out right STOLE the song. Why would rickey sign his name on Allen collins picture? People are not going to forgive or forget that he has done this many times.FACT CHECK
