Purgatory Chasm - Spelunking

A quick trip to Purgatory Chasm State Park in MA.
We had fun walking around the woods and climbing some of the rocks, in addition to crawling around in a few underground caves!

i attempted the same cave crawl that starts at 5:50. I couldn't get thru the final crevice at the end where you see the daylight. It was scary as hell. I had to go backwards to get out. This happened yesterday. I have bruises and scrapes all over my forearms, back and abdomen. A local was there who guided me thru it, thank god he was there. Its not easy. You have to bend and twist at every crevice. I went to the visitors station after and talked to the ranger. He said one person gets stuck a year on average and 99% of the time its at the exit hole where I couldn't fit thru. Sutton Fire dept has to grease them out. In case you're wondering, I'm 6'1, 205, and my shoulders are not all that wide, so I'd be wary.

+Michael Murphy It is definitely a tight squeeze every which way of that cave and it only gets tighter towards that exit. Its impressive you were able to go backwards through the whole cave from there! I can't (but also can) believe that people get stuck in there once a year! those park rangers have a bit of a tougher job than other ones do. I am 5' 10'' and only 145lbs. and could barely get out of that final exit without it pulling down my pants (which is purposefully not shown.)

Haven't been to Purgatory in probably 6 or 7 years but man I need to get back. This place was a source of joy for me in my highschool years and early 20s. I never had the balls to go in these little caves though and im too big and fat anyways. I have heard that these have been blocked off in recent years but idk if that's true. Either way it's a wonderful place one of the coolest rock formations and hiking areas in all of New England if not the coolest

It would make sense if they blocked them off, though I hope they wouldn't. Its a beautiful park, specially unique for the area.

lead into that cave by a strangers voice coming from inside as a kid, honestly had a fun time

Great video guys. Only video of that particular cave that I could find on youtube. Great production and everything. Now I can share my harrowing experience with everyone.

+ULU - Underground Looking Up I don't know of any caves similar to this one, but there is a great cave formation on the right side just as your enter the chasm. Its not scary, its very open, and requires some good climbing to get through it. its very easy to miss. When you enter the chasm, stay to the right side, and climb to the base of the large rock formation on the right.

@@UndergroundLookingUp there are a few cave there some are blocked off and there is a cave that goes to a little stream under it all havent actually seen the stream but went far enough to hear water

Fuck all that. You guys are brave! I've visited the chasm before and opted out of going inside. To me that is not a cave, that is a hole! Great video though, thumbs up.
