Thank you for the Filter Education! Another great video. Me personally, I would choose the Motorcraft over the Boss, only because of the price point. Not much of a difference to justify higher price points. Love Filter Friday!

The boss wins here except the bypass location. I like it where Motorcraft puts it. The media seemed similar because I believe Purolator makes Motorcraft oil filters. Good comparison 👍

I use a Motorcraft filter all day long. Great value. I once had a problem with a Pure One filter (dry starting) and a Purolator customer service agent was a jerk. So I swore off the P. Anecdotal, absolutely. But if my wife or kids would have driven the car for 5K, they would have never noticed the ticking on cold starts and the engine could have been damaged. I replaced the Pure One with a cheap $2 Quaker State filter and the ticking stopped. 10 years later, I'm still driving the same SUV, an 04 4Runner , with no oil consumption. So if Motorcraft makes a 50¢ profit off me every oil change instead of Purolator, I'm happy

Hi LG, Purolator makes the Motorcraft oil filters. Sometimes you can get a bad filter and unfortunately a bad salesperson too. I can understand the bad taste you got from them. Thanks for Sharing👍

Wow, Robert from Wheatland Cali sent these big boys all the way to Whip City, FOC. Nice. Obviously both filters made by Purolator. Despite MC info, I'm thinking it too uses full synthetic media for the 2124S, maybe identical to Boss. The Boss has more media area, but is it worth $17 more than the MC? Maybe depends on how long interval? The Motorcraft looks to be value priced in comparison to the Boss. I'd probably take the MC here. Thanks for vid, and Robert for filters.

If using the OEM Motorcraft Diseal Oil then stick with Motorcraft FL2124S. If using bettter brand of diseal oil then use Purolator PBL 46128. If I was doing a road trip then use Puralator Boss Filter.

At least with the emissions diesel engines and the low ash oil requirements I think filters do a much better job of keeping the oil clean. Diesel oil now comes out almost the same color as when it was put in. And I think most diesel specs oil filters are more consistent across the majority of brands.

As Whip City Wrencher has shown some of the Motorcraft filters have changed. People who claim to be mechanics in the comments section have mentioned it too. I wish someone would put together a series of videos that does nothing but show the side by side de-evolution of the Motorcraft oil filters.

Purolator Boss 👍 A bit more expensive but superior in most aspects. Wider, more filter media, more surface area. Silicone ADBV has a tighter fit. Elongated inlet holes seem to provide better oil flow (I'm guessing). Has a traditional bypass valve. I'd spend the extra $10 and go with the Purolator Boss. Interesting filters 👍

We stop using Motorcraft oil and filters on my friends 2020 F350 power stroke hot shot truck already has 300,000 miles we kept seeing contamination laying on the bottom of the drain pan actual solids that should of been trapped in the filter and oil itself the Motorcraft 5w40 and 15w40 isn't very good its just rebranded ConocoPhillips oil we started using Rotella with Boss or Wix XP both are made by Mann+Hummel the bottom of the drain pan was clean which means it was being trapped we also used Amsoil and Amsoil filter that was best outcome but the Rotella T6 and T5 do very well I was very disappointed with the ConocoPhillips Motorcraft oil and filter the 6.7s call for 15w40 under severe service application's and or bio diesel not 5w40 or 10w30

I really like that upper bypass valve on the Ford. I wish more filters had that. Having said that I use Pure one and the Boss filters on my wife's Toyota and my F-150 And it is nice to see they are very well made and don't have glue slopped all over the place, though the Ford is a good one too. Also, the boss has a nicer finish than some cars I have seen. I'd have no problem using either one, though Ido use the Purolaters

The Purolator Boss 99% at 25 microns and Motorcraft at 95% particles greater than 30 microns, a lot of filters meet this spec. Go to the 1:40 mark in this video link-> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/asekZ7tpucCznKs.html&ab_channel=FordandMotorcraftParts

You don’t want the pressure bypass at the bottom of the filter!! Especially in the 6.7 which hangs upright , in the morning the pressures are high and the bottom bypass will blow all the dirt back in the engine , stick with the motorcraft this is why ford moved the bypass to the top of the filter !!

Those are some monster filters. They can probably hold half the oil that my engine uses. I always prefer a baseplate-end bypass. For years, the Motorcraft filter I used on my Ford had it and so did filters made by Mann + Hummel. In recent years, the Wix and Napa filters moved to the dome-end bypass.
