Just knowing exactly what aspects of the ways Adichie characterises Kambili and Amaka you will cover in paragraphs 2 and 3 will help. In para 4 you focus solely on differences and contrasts that Adichie makes. In para 5 focus just on how Adichie hints/ suggests that the two may become close. This is why the planning stage is important so that you have thought about exactly what techniques/ aspects of the extract you will cover in each para. @@user-yp9mf6of6p Sorry for the slow reply. AO1 is showing knowledge of the lit text with references to it. For the non-extract question you are now told you cannot refer to the extract for the other one (essay question). Showing knowledge can be through quotations, but it can be through reference to specific moments in the play or novel. The key is knowing the lit text well. You can also demonstrate this through knowing how Tennessee Williams use motifs such as the blue piano, the Varsouviana etc. Or how Adichie uses symbols such as the figurines, colour symbolism etc. Knowing the key themes will also be useful for addressing AO1. Whether you are going to answer the essay based question or the extract, knowing the key techniques used by the writer are vital not just for addressing AO3; it will help for AO1 as well.
