I noticed this about 10 years ago. Push button locks have like a 50% failure rate. If I have to second guess whether the door is locked or not, I'm not coming back to your establishment. So future business owners, take note. Deadbolt only.

I worked in a bars and restaurants when I was younger. Fully closed in restrooms, not stalls, and person has a medical emergency or more often, drunk and passed out, you cannot access the bathroom without breaking the entire frame of the rooms door. You have to breech the door. Which is dangerous for the person behind it also. In some places I worked at least once a month someone was unresponsive inside of the locked room. It's what you're going to get in a public restroom. If it's just a stall then I've never seen one without a bolt either. There's more than one reason bars and restaurants will not have some completely non accessible. There are usually a very very small access hole on push buttons that need a pretty long special tool to operate. If safety for crapping while in a meditative level of relaxation while doing so is your need, then public restrooms aren't going to be your thing.🤷🏻‍♂️

I know for a fact that the push lock at work definitely works. I know this because apparently everyone from the Midwest has no idea how to knock, they just jiggle the handle instead. Some of them do it a second time 10 seconds after the first, either because they're assholes or actually stupid 😂

Screwdriver can open most deadbolts, so push buttons are just fine. Punch, lift and drag is all it takes. Hope this makes you feel better.😊

Dead bolts are a bad idea for public washrooms. They just are. If someone has an emergency it is way more difficult to get in. If a homeless person decides they wanna shelter there, now the police have to come and break the door. Generally the push lock is not there to stop people from getting in, it is there to show people it is occupied. For safety and financial reasons using a knob lock is better in washrooms.

I bet that dude who throws hatchets at and picks bad padlocks would agree.
