We take on one of Norway's most notorious hikes: Kjerag Bolton! Would you stand up there on a boulder wedged between two cliff faces 1000m above the fjord?!?! We have to use chains to climb up slippery granite boulders and trek across frozen rivers and deep snow. The hike is a lot scarier than Iz anticipated...

Who are we? 💁🏼‍♀️
We're Tom and Iz, who live and travel in our van La Bamba. You might find Tom in the forest IDing a mushroom, fixing something or starting an ambitious project with his laid-back relaxed approach whereas you could find Isabel cooking up a storm, sunning herself on a beach and being a busy, energetic bee with her endless enthusiasm and positivity! We are total opposites but it works!
How did we end up here?! 😁 ⏮
We met 10 years ago when we were both finishing our A-levels and had a whirlwind summer romance, hitch-hiking around France together before before going our separate ways to travel and to university. We've both always prioritised travel and adventure and have worked hard over the years in hospitality jobs to enable us to keep exploring.
Tom hitch-hiked across Europe and road tripped around Australia whilst Iz studied Environmental Science at York. Iz backpacked around South America with her sister whilst Tom studied Forestry at Aberdeen University. Little did we know we just weren't going to get each other out of our minds! Fast forward 4 years later, we found ourselves in campsite warden job, living in a bell tent in a wild flower meadow together! Maybe without realising this was the start of our van life journey!
Next, we both trained to be science teachers and during training, we bought a van, ripped out it's interior and converted it to live in it. Iz managed to get a remote work-from-home job that she could do from the van and Tom was passionate about starting up a KZfaq channel.
Since then we haven't looked back and when the pandemic allowed us to, we travelled to Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and around Cornwall. We are now on a big European road trip! We are giving it our best shot to do KZfaq full time. We have a dream of one day owning a little plot of land and building ourselves a cabin in the woods. If you're new around here you can check out our previous videos; we've been uploading weekly videos for the last 9 months and are currently releasing DAILY VIDEOS.
Our message on our channel is to inspire others to do what they love as life is too short! We love living simply, freely with less stuff but more time!
Thank you so much for watching! If you enjoyed this video please consider LIKING this video and SUBSCRIBING to our channel! It would help us grow our channel 🌻

Wow, another great daily vlog. Absolutely no shame Izzy in not standing on that boulder, my legs were shaking just watching Tom do it. You did so well just doing the walk clinging on to those chains!! To be honest I would have been terrified just doing the drive up to the start!! Norway looks incredible, hope you enjoy the rest of your trip😀

I’m not being preachy but a pair of decent walking boots would be a great idea , just to help prevent a sprained ankle when you’re miles from help and it’s always great to take them off after a long hike ! Glad you were rewarded with the sun.

Izzy, you are an absolute star for doing any of that. Well done!! I don’t think I could get on that boulder either…felt sick watching that part, Tom! You have had such amazing adventures but that day must rank right up there with the best? I honestly feel big budget, major TV company travel programmes are going to seem so anodyne and utterly boring in future. There is an immediacy and present feeling in these and loads of us here have followed you for a while, so feel some sense of a connection. One of your very best, I think. Thank you and see you tomorrow!

So real, so as it is. Authentic is the word I am looking for, Tom you are a true warrior for testing the boulder glue! Izzy your fear is unbderstandable I did the Annapurna circuit some years ago and there were drop-offs that put my fear of heights into the pit of my stomach. Wire and wooden bridges crossing 300-foot ravines with a column of donkeys then deciding to cross from the opposite side as you were approaching the halfway point!! Really enjoyed this video you made us feel part of the day.

Wow, that's Norway from it's best side. I once was down to Lysebotn, realizing I was running out of fuel. A very gentle Norwegian helped me out - God bless him - so I could make the journey back to my hytta in Setesdalen. Just like you I went down to Lysebotn in the clouds and when I went up again, the sky broke up and I had one of the most beautiful sunsets ever. I remember every curve of the road, but I didn't make the way to Keragbolten. Maybe next time... I appreciate your journey, have a great trip and please more footage like this :-) All the best for you!

May 1 2023: Very good discussing mental health and to make all aware. In the military I would tell my soldiers that it takes someone with so much courage to recognize this. To not think what someone thinks of you it is you that is a priority. Oh my the road is windy and weather is as always cold. The hike up had the rope to assist. Very good with the advice of whether or not someone should challenge this. What a view even through the mist.

If I'm not mistaken, those stone steps were laid by hired sherpas from Nepal, and they were well-paid for the work. But some tourists take slabs as "souvenirs", thus ruining the stairs...

Pre-disclaimer, not a rant, just sharing a POV from a ton of time in the mountains! I think the thing with the boots is, as much as they can do it yes, victorian explorers won't be calling on other people's resources (mountain rescue eg) if they f**k up by not quite being prepared. Those boots slip off so easily at the wrong angle, and those are some high consequence slips 😬. Just make a note to get yourselves some Meindl's, Hanwags or something solid, they'll last you forever and you'll have a hell of a nicer time too!

I took initiative and went up there with a few friends some years ago. I am not particulary afraid of hights, but when I got up to the top and looked over the cliffs I decided then and there that: "NOPE! I am not going out on that boulder!" Two of my friends did, and took a picture. I was worried sick to my stomack about them falling down. It still gives me the creeps to think back on it. If anything had happened I wonder if their families would have ever forgiven me for having dragged them up there in the first place. Other than that it was an amazing experience!
