It was around 23:30 last night, long day of #countrylife stuff, but as I fell into bed I thought I should watch this video. You know you're really enjoying the content and how it's presented when you don't even change the playback speed and it's after midnight when you stop holding up your eyelids as the video wraps up. Well worth the mental soothingness (might have just made that up) to stay up and watch you enjoy (and struggle) with yet another great build tutorial. 🙂👍

Another good one man! I like the electronic management system you use, similar to your jet builds. I see the irony (?) though, the original P-51 war planes had nothing in the way of electronics like this system. The pilots (war time) were busy managing the airplane in order to ‘fight them’. For someone like me, it’s nice to simply fly the airplane and not worry about managing it. 😊

Nice build so far. Quick tip. The esc, dont lengthen the wires from esc to motor, rathet the battery to esc wires. Other wise the length of the wires wil screw around with the magnetic feedback pulse to the esc and ull have a eratic running brushless motor.
@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Re the ESC. There isn't much choice. I don't think mounting it in the engine compartment next to the hot exhaust is a good idea. It only has to run the start motor for 5 seconds during start up then it's done.

If the mounts are the same size as the washer, what’s the point of them? I don’t get it. Wouldn’t it be best to leave as much of the firewall intact (ie: no countersunk washer hole) and bolt the engine on? If the washer was HUGE and distributed the weight of the motor over a greater area I would understand. I don’t know what I’m on about in any case. 😂 I forgot to say: I love this build ❤
@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc Жыл бұрын
without the washer the engine will damage the firewall and recess it. So if I didn't do it now it would be needed in the future after X number of runs.

Normally I try and find larger washers, but Hysol the washer stops it oscillating and eating into the bulkhead.
@MPRasta104
@MPRasta104 Жыл бұрын
I disagree. I learned this with safety wiring as well. The larger the washer, the more the load is distributed. Wider washers keep the bolt head from eating in. Hysol will NOT help that. Wood or aluminum, it doesn't matter. I know because I've tried both methods.

The starter motor system adds up some weight! How about not installing the starter batteries but plugging them in, start the engine, then unplugging the pack?
@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc Жыл бұрын
Yea I thought about that as an option. In the final video you will see the sollution. I ended up just proceeding like we were going to install the battery in the plane and hoping a smaller battery would be suitable. Look like it ended up working perfect. I did think about having an external plug but wanted it to be all internal in the end.

I am loving this build. Very educational for me. I like all of your builds and what you have to do to get things into a proper placement. I wish though, I had the know how and the money for all of your setups. IE:: 3d printing, the way to make decals (which by the way, I would really would love to be able to do, just because, I have found a P-47 that has my Late woman’s name on it.) Why do you use (hysall) versus 2 parts of epoxy? Sorry if the hysall is spelled Wrong!! The plane looks awesome. I hope that Power plant is not too much!!
@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc Жыл бұрын
Part of it is convenience. I can squish some out, mix it up for 20-30 seconds and it's ready to go. If i'm using 2 part bare epoxy, I'm pulling out my measuring devices, measuring A and B, mixing it then adding suitable additives to make it appropriate for the intended use. All of that takes maybe 5 min and much less convenient. Standard 2 part epoxy with out any additives is not suitable for most of our applications.

That is another excellent video, Jon. Thanks for sharing. I wondered how to calibrate the mix in the carb needles. 🤔 Is it a Data Terminal or a voltmeter (White device near the pressure tank)? The gas tank should also be held/locked in the back. Right? Gas engines can shake a bit, and the tank can slide back. I guess I'm getting very anxious about the following video. 🤣
