Guys, just giving advice from a guy with 30+ yrs in construction. Get yourselves a set of leather tool pouches, it will save you time. You have to be constantly chasing down tools and screws, tool belts keep you organized and saves steps by giving quick access to small tools at your side. Love what you do and keep moving forward.

+Randy Snow I couple years back I bought the most expensive leather tool pouch I could find at Lowe's. After a year of homeowner, not professional, use the plastic buckle broke. I'm not disputing your suggestion, but, finding stuff that is worth buying is harder and harder these days. Do you have any suggestions for a leather tool belt that would be worth buying? Like one with brass rivets and buckles?

The Kind that clips to a military Web belt???? Yea, probably not made but I'm thinking a Surplus shop might provide the pieces you might need! Cut the Fn Flaps off and use the pouches you can find!

Won't suggest any brands, thick leather is the best in my opinion, it will last for years. Just be sure the belt you purchase has a well made buckle.

Most guys don't wear leather anymore. Too hot, too heavy. Canvas/nylon is great. Lightweight, can get wet over and over, needs no conditioning, fairly strong for everyday use i mean nobody will keep a belt for 50 years.. I myself don't even use a belt I have a vest from Sweden made by Björnkläder. Honestly the best pouch I've ever owned. No more hip pain or bad back. Comfortable to wear. A little hot most times but way better than a pouch.

Good ground man is arguably the most important person on the job site ..... keeping materials supplied, cleaning up for safety and having a tool ready when needed. So there is no shame is letting Alyssa work the wall build. Can't wait to see those walls poured!

This ICF DIY project is like no other, on KZfaq. We did a three storey building, with the help of numerous video tutorials and using Fox Block. Our basement floor was concreted to assist process.

One little tip for the problem of dealing with T-20 and T-25 screws is always use a T-20 bit! It's the only size bit I ever use and I've never stripped a T-25 screw with it. My wife and I are loving your videos and how transparent and real you guys are! Keep up the good fight!

I very much appreciate all the work Alyssa is doing on putting out the video. You still have a month or more of potentially hot weather. How about if she edits from noon until 6. Yes, i know you are losing light at the beginning and end of the day (it is dark that early in the AM now where I live). The fancy portable work site lights are too expensive. Just buy some 4' double "bulb" LED "shop lights" and build some brackets out of 2x4s. Put some clear plastic tarps over them to keep the rain off and fire up the generator ! I got mine on sale at Costco for

You guys are amazing! I know how exhausting being under construction is because we are in the same boat right now. My hubby and I are doing almost all of the work our selves as well. (But same as you, an occasional assist helps boost momentum 😉 its all about optimizing your resources) You both have a great attitude, you work so well with each other and MAN you are working your tails off! Not to mention, videoing your progress! Wow! Hats off to you both! Someday your kids will LOVE seeing this! Keep it up and don't let the haters steal your thunder! You guys do great getting all this footage! Lots of extra time goes into recording and explaining everything on camera, not to mention rewatching it all for the final edit. I've done a little videoing myself and can assure you that in your shoes I would have given up an ditched the cameras a long time ago, money or no money! Keep up the good work!!!!!

Happy to see after already 15 comments that there are no ridiculing of Jesse and Alyssa with how they are doing their project. Hopefully it will turn out fine, and I am betting it will. People get really obsessive with their comments that they are doing it all wrong. We are just here to watch and enjoy their life and they dont need our input after the fact. If you would only realize that the video your watching typically is at least a week behind where they are. Maybe chastising they would be less relevant.

Really enjoying your great videos! One suggestion - be sure to back up that relief cut as well as any other cuts with plywood braces to prevent blowouts! When my brother built an ICF house we had a couple of blowouts and needless to say they came at the worst possible time!

one thing ive learnt in my 30 year career in architecture is always building the wall on the south first because it shades the sun for the builders, therefore the work they carry out is more to standard since they aren't working in the direct sun sweltered all day.

You two are doing a fantastic job with your dream home build. Doing things for yourself is what homesteading is about. If you can do it yourself, don't need hired hands. You are saving alot of money and learning alot of construction experience. To some of the people leaving nasty comments, why do you even bother? Unsubscribe and go find another channel. Or get off your ass and make something in your shop or your homestead. Jesse and Alyssa are learning as they go. They are not pros. They haven't done this before. Everyone learns by doing it. Jesse, if you are serious about wood heat check out wood gasification boilers. I bought one several years ago to replace an older standard wood boiler. Its 50% more efficient and burns much cleaner. Its also an in house installation as opposed to those out house looking things

The only thing I would add is that at least with Eko, their Warranty is EXTREMELY good, as in after 7 years ours failed due to a construction issue, and AFTER 7 YEARS years they essentially gave us a brand new one.... Still in the cellar, still pumping heat 6 years later. Total cost $7500.00(for both) but its should/could/woulda been cheaper if I was 1/2 awake and 1/2 less trusting of the installer (not the product). Keep in mind when I installed it Oil was $3.77 a gallon for heating fuel..

At the hardware stores around here the screws are generally #8 for short screws 1- 1 1/2 which are t20, #9 for medium length 2-3 which are t25 and #10 for long 3.5-4 which are t30. These are all the same brand. I do share you pain through. I see no reason they all couldn't be t25.

I believe that I'm going to be at least half as relieved when this IFC stuff is done as you guys will be. The main thing I've learned from these videos is to just leave it to the pros. It's just a continuous pain in the neck from start to finish.. I'm looking forward to the timber framing. That will be fun and a lot of hard work but mostly fun.

Handrail or headrail? just around Alyssa's waist would be better, anyone can trip on a double lapped board and fly right through that gap and die on any of those uncovered steels below, in the time it takes to say Jessie, even if they where wearing a helmet and yellow hi-vis vest. That's worst case scenario, they are at a height where any fall would mean you're off work. Having the turnbuckles near the floor is a better idea for ease of adjustment, use that round hole, it's what its there for, slip it over your peg. Strapping next, and filling in the ends, and lots of foam.

Mouse proofing... We live in a heavily wooded area of far northern Wisconsin... What we should have done is to add 1/4" hardware cloth around the perimeter of our buildings between the top of the foundation and the wood base plate. What would work best is to form the hardware cloth (welded wire metal fabric) and to form a "Z" shape... The middle portion goes over the top of the foundation. One leg of the "Z" goes up under your fascia and the inside leg goes 2 ways - One part folded up and stapled to your ceiling and the bottom folded down your inside wall. Next in your corners, form a piece from the bottom of the foundation up on both sides of each of the outer pieces of cladding. We retrofitted one building, but couldn't do the the other one. No mice in one, mice in the other one. It's inexpensive, but worth it!!!!

I believe the torx size on the head of the screw is determined by the size of the screw, not the manufacturer.

I framed houses for 12 yrs & done a little of everything for 4-5 more...never seen any woman work scaffolding like she does & so very little doing much else n construction. There's been a few couples that did finish work together...but true, bust Ur ass work- none. Much props to Alyssa's work ethics...she's definitely one in a million! I've done enough knick- knack, bullshit...picking up & cleaning up to know Jesse's working hard, but Alyssa's a special girl by far!

I enjoy watching you guys build your house! It is so much fun to follow along with your progress. The only suggestion I would like to make is that you should invest in some hard hats. Thanks for the entertainment!

Good work you two. I am personally learning so much about home building and hope to be able to make this journey myself one day (fingers crossed). Also loved the music chosen in this one, very inspirational.
