Today we take a look at B&M Distribution Centre - Bedford, Zander Wy, Wixams, Bedford MK42 6EY.
We remain on the unrestricted footway but face objections from security who make a couple of comments about taking the bike due to it being on their land.
Backup security arrive but his tactics fail so the Organ Grinder arrives and deescalates the situation and common sense prevails.

In 'a previous life', I was an inmate for 4 months. I did soon realise there were various types of Boss/Gov/Screw, about half and half. Some more like Steve and some very friendly, even playing darts and pool and having friendly chats with inmates. Who knows how much of it was a total act, but it did seem to me that the softly softly approach was the more productive (for want of a better word) approach. Why would a prison want a lot of angry inmates due to overly strict guards?

The “cabe ties” on the back of the Lorrie’s are actually security tags as such. Has a ID printed on them related to the paperwork and pallet number for that store load. Helps with goods not getting stolen too from the delivery drivers. Ex B&M employee worker.

Right after he approached a member of the public, told him to "put your camera down", got VERY close (in what could be considered an intimidating manner), tried to tell him he wasn't allowed to film, tried to block the camera with his hand, tried to tell him he was on their land, and strongly suggested his bike would be removed/stolen. Not to say that all prison guards are bad (like how there are good police officers out there, too). But Steve has clearly been able to tell people what to do for many years, and still thinks it applies to people on a public footpath. What an absolute Potato. Oh, and the first guard definitely did suggest that she could "remove" your bike, which of course would have been theft. Well, probably TWOC (Taking Without Consent), since it's a "mechanically-propelled vehicle".

I forgot the "Demanding DJ's full name" thing. lol And apparently Steve thinks that sitting in a security hut and talking to truck drivers is a more glamourous job than DJ's. (again, no offence to truckers nor security. But Steve clearly thinks his job is way above everyone else's.)

Watch the video, quite clearly on private property. In a queue with the handbrake on most definitely but also possibly didn't even have the engine running anyway.

@@jonnyraff1241that road is publicly accessible up to the gate, so private or not you'd still be subject to those laws until you were past the gate. Handbrake on or not is irrelevant, if the engine was off the police would still be likely to prosecute as he's clearly not parked up and is waiting in a queue of traffic.

@lufferov There isn't a Truck driver in the country abiding by them rules. Everything is done on a electronic device, you'll struggle to find a driver that won't use it unless parked with the engine off. Common sense has to kick in at some point.

Great video! 👍⭐⭐⭐ Based on the land survey UK at the base of the embankment is a narrow parcel leading to the railway and bridge but new footpath not yet constructed from the roundabout. Footpath map indicates a cycle path to the gate. Britain From Above has a 1929 aerial of location, Elstow Brick Works, now the rear portion of the B&M site. The bridge likely added after the 1960s to cross the railway. A footpath connected Hardwick Hill Road (west side) to the Elstow Brick Works c. 1900 on the B&M side of the railway (east side). Former clay pits form the ponds on the north side of B&M. To the south, Fisherwood Road and former railway spur were the north boundary of the Elstow Storage Depot during World War 2 for the Royal Ordnance Factory network. B&M announced in 2018 the new 1,000,000 ft2 distribution centre at £100 million and constructed by Kier Construction.

Fascinating 20th century brick industrial history began at Elstow, now a Bowel Movement distribution centre. Elstow Brick Works opened in 1897 by BJ Forder and Sons producing brick using Oxford clay. Around 1903 the Stewart family became partners. In 1920 they expanded operations to Wootton Pillinge about 2 miles southwest. In 1923/26 BJ Forder and London Brick Works, also operating around Wootton Pillinge merged and later known as London Brick Works. In 1937 Wooton Pillinge was renamed Stewartby. Numerous clay pits operated between Stewartby and Bedford and the largest brick works in the world. Elstow Brick Works was one of the smaller works and closed 1973 (and only 4 of the 167 chimneys in the area). Stewartby area brick works continued till 2008 and several chimneys still remain.
