The message to NATO is that if you can supply high technology weapons to our enemies, then we can do the same to yours. There is a chance to help North Korea develop their economy to help improve the circumstances of its people. Yes, the Pyongyang Government is a very strange hereditary authoritarian one, but the people deserve a better economic life, and this will help the country to move to a better system as it did in other developing countries. Also, it is easier to control the excesses of a country by engagement and mutual trade than by sanctions and isolation. The resistance of the Koreans against Imperial Japan was heroic and is an unsung achievement of the 2WW, whereas the French Resistance is well recognised.

To sum up, China does not create an alliance militarily like NATO because that would disrupt the peace and keep the world in hostile stage. What's more likely going to happen is that Russia will incorporate Ukraine into the Union State. The Ukrainians will be attracted to work in Russia for remittances due to better work opportunities and send the money for whoever is left in Ukrainian territory that is willing to repair the country. I suspect that the Ukrainians that left due to the war will be repatriated back into the country. The worsening conditions of European economies due to de-industrialization and recession/depression will also attract alot of Eastern Europeans into Russia. North Koreans will definitely work in Russia as well. War tends to incentivize a baby boom, and since most young Ukrainian men have died in this war, we will see a lot of Russian-Ukrainian marriages. Russia has created the conditions for a demographic transformation, like the US experienced after WW2. I don't think the Europeans realize the long term implications for what they have done. The days when Europeans looked to Paris and London are ending, it'll be towards Moscow that they will begin to look at.

Stalin WAS the one to march on Pyongyang, kicking out the Japanese at the end of WW2 after U.S. indicated at the Cairo Conference that Chosun would remain in Japanese hands after the war. Land reform in NK after WW2: Russia let farmers working the land keep the land (for free) in 1948. Land reform in the South: U.S. sold land to highest bidders starting in 1953. the purpose of Putin's visit is a military one. It is mainly about allowing naval transit for China on the Tumen River. This river starts in China and delimits the Russian-Korean border, and North Korea's consent is also needed to allow the navigation of Chinese ships. Agreement that North Korea will give, in exchange for some old contracts with Russia, especially for food and energy. But you're probably wondering what's the point? The stake is terrible, and through this contract Russia is taking revenge on both Japan and South Korea. Now China has direct access to the Sea of Japan, and as for South Korea, it can be attacked by China from two directions. Basically, through the navigation permit, China has access to an ultra-strategic area. But where is Russia's interest? If you think revenge is the goal, you are wrong! In fact Russia has a big problem: to maintain its maritime relevance it urgently needs to replace about 100 warships in the next 10-15 years. The Russians know exactly what they want, they just don't have the production capacity for what they need. So, through the free pass granted to China, they secured access to China's shipyards for the construction of 100 warships over the next 15 years. In this way they solve their problems as their own shipyards will only use them for submarines, a much more sensitive technology and impossible to outsource. Chinese shipyards are by far the best in the world, able to carry out orders that no one else can.

About a month ago both Russian officials and China at high level made statements that each in tends to support the other in war time. A Chinese defense official made the statement China would come to Russias assistance in the even of attack by her enemies (NATO in Europe) . The next Day a Russian defense official made the statement that Russian AF will always help to defend "Chinese sovereignty" when it is threatened , and it seemed very clear at the time , that was a reference to Taiwan.

China, Russia and N. Korea have agreed to develop the boarder areas of the 3 countries for commercial shipping and economic purposes. This area of the boarder will greatly enhance the economy of all 3 countries in the future as well as military cooperation in the Japanese Sea.

Funny now is that NK has a market in Russia and can earn some money. All the attempt to isolate it - are done with Russia and China. Still a country with a LARGE problem in its nuclear weapons. Not meaning this political - but nuclear weapons are not easy to make and require a large industry, while NK is a small country. That is a heavy burden. But with Russia now - there is a chance for an economy to grow. Heck, NK may even decide to cut down on its nuclear weapons and go into a more economic development.

NK actually has a significant industrial capacity that is churning out weapons. It is not as destitute as often portrayed and would be even better is not for the western sanctions on it forever.
