"the Ukrainians are succeeding in making the Russians think that Crimea, the defence of Crimea, air and land, is a cost...too far.'
Russian offensive collapse north of Kharkiv has caused stagnation across Putin's offensive as Ukraine's attacks on Crimea deepen, Robert Fox tells Kate Gerbeau on Frontline.

This is why it's so important that NATO and the West really steps up its aid to Ukraine. Don't allow Putin the slightest pause to catch his breath. Then, with a little sense and luck, his own betrayed Russian people will deal with him.

Mostly supply bottlenecks. The US is really the only NATO member who kept a substantial military budget post-Cold War and has defense commitments around the world. The ammunition production simply doesn't exist on the scale required right now. Ramping up production to meet demands is happening, but very slowly. It's a costly process and the average citizen of the supporting countries doesn't see the value in. There's also been an element of escalation management in western countries that've held them back from fully committing.

There is a dark side to this. Russia has lost 500,000 young men it doesn't have to spare. Ukraine has doubtless lost as many, and basically all young women as refugees. Whether Ukraine wins or loses, both countries lose and the whole region is wrecked for the next 50 years. The West might see an upside to that.

If Ukraine expands it's drone production and widens their uses, they are in a much better position than Russia because of their more decentralised and innovative political and production methods.
