Really nice sound and combination with the Bigsby and Filtertron pickups. The sound is thick and warm enough for that edgy rock vibe, but is also bright and clear for the clean sounds-without sounding too bright/tinny. Thank you for posting this.

Cool mod! Sounds great. Looks cool too. It's interesting what's been happening with pickups. A lot of players are getting into retro tones and putting Filtertrons, gold foils and P-90s in so many guitars. There's a lot more to pickups than simple PAFs and single coils, active and passive.

It still has that Tele twang going on but with a little more warmth and fullness of sound than you would usually get from a Tele with single coils. If I was going to compare the sound with anything I would say it was similar to humbuckers that have had the mid range scooped at the EQ and possibly getting a treble boost. Visually they really suit the guitar.

Informative as always. Im loving the tele, but find the Bigsby made the guitar too cluttered but it does serve its purpose. Thanks to Darrel for the post. A 👍 as usual!

Really like the tone of these pickups!

For the past couple of months I've been kicking around the idea of buying a telecaster and installing a Gretsch-style Filtronic pickup in the bridge position, just as an experiment. Now I know the outcome! Thank you for satisfying my curiosity! Love the results even though I'm no fan of the tele. You saved me money I don't have! Thanks so much and keep those projects coming!

That guitar looks magnificent. A thinline body with a sweet color and that maple neck is sweet. Throw in a bigsby and then those unique noiseless pickups all add up to a vicious vivacious tone machine. Those pickups have a twangy vintage tone and clarity that would fit a lot of styles. I've veen looking for a guitar for atmosphetic solo guitar music without using a the Fender Jaguar that most players doing atmospheric guitar stuff are using. This tele you created would fit that bill so well. Well done and keep these great videos coming. Great channel sir.

Thank you sir. I've been wanting to build a strat with 3 filtertron style pickups. I looked at TV Jones which are superb but are pricey. Thanks for a alternative for that brand. TV Jones offered several models which compounded my choices and desisions. Your channel is great and please keep them coming. Please consider a video on upgrading a strat with Gretsch style pickups in the future. Bravo and gratitude.

The sound of the neck played dirty immediately had me thinking of Billy Duffy and his White Falcon. Sensational tone!

Great Mod. Truly silent. I had an American Standard (Ash body/Maple veneer top). I hated the Fender (Not) Silent pickups. When I took off the pick plate it was routed for a middle pickup from the factory. I guess it was also set up as a " Nashville model." i routs a hole for a middle pickup and installed 3 Lace Sensor Gold pickup and a 5 Way Super Switch. I wired it for standard neck/middle/ bridge with positions 2 and 4 neck/middle and bridge/middle so I had sort of a Tele/Strat. It was a very useful gigging workhorse. I was playing in a blues band at the time. I traded it for a Music Man Silhouette hard tail and never looked back. I would love to have a G6122TFM but hey I do have a Guild Starfire IV in the closet. It's pretty much a gigging relic. All beat up with most of the finish played off the back of the neck. A pair of those JE Tron pickups would be an interesting update. It already has the Guild "baby bucker" rout so maybe the mounting rings will work.

Darrell...good job! It looks like a mint chocolate chip ice cream guitar based on the colour and cool tones! Love the F hole! Teles are pretty close to Gretsches tone wise and complement one another. Now that said there are several ways to go about this. In my Tele I bought an actual Gretsch Filtertron and had it installed by my luthier. You can also buy a pickguard blank and trace out the exact dimensions on that too. For the bridge you can buy notched ashtray style bridges from Mastery and I am pretty sure TV Jones offers some as well. Also you can go with a Filtertron is a humbucker size from TV Jones or a GFS Nashville pickups. They are drop ins if you have a Deluxe or Custom Telecaster. I looked up your pickups and they are not cheap. I think they might be a bit more than the TV Jones pickups. Also Seymour Duncan offers Filtertrons from their custom shop. I know a few other people make Tron style pickups too. If you keep the traditional bridge pickup the Filtertron will overpower it by volume even if the single coil is hotter! My guitar has a GFS Lipstick and while its a great pick up it essentially acts like a choke in the middle position for the Filtertron. Putting a Tron style pickup will bring a bit more focus in a Tele than say on a Gretsch hollow body. If you want to do this on the cheap I would suggest the GFS Nashvilles or the Dream 180s as they are humbucker sized and are under $40 each If you want a production style Telecaster you might want to look at the Schecter PT Fastback ll models. The pickups are not quite Filtertrons but they are close, coil tapped, and each pickup has a seperate tone and volume. It comes with a Bigsby and a TOM style roller bridge.

What a beautiful Telecaster you got there. Nice conversion, the new pups sound outstanding. The tone "seems" to be somewhere between hot wound single coils and PAFs, but I could be wrong.

Surf Green, Filtertrons, and a Bigsby? Well, of course. Nice work. It's very cool that you do the work yourself. While not a fan of "relic'd" guitars, the Filtertrons just finish the look. It doesn't hurt that it also sounds good.

Oh my! Perfect aesthetics and spectacular tone as advertised! I have the mp90 Thinline tele that I put gfs soapbar mount filtertron style pups in. I also took my hh blacktop tele and put humbucker sized fidelitrons in it. They both sound good, but not like this beauty!

I've been wanting to do a telecaster build like this. I want to take a telecaster deluxe and add filtertrons and a bigsby. I really like the idea of black on black with a maple fretboard on it. It isn't in the budget anytime soon but it's still something I want to do eventually! It sounds really cool. I really like the gretsch pro jets as well which have a similar vibe. I tend to like the shape of fender neck shapes a little bit better though.

My absolute dream guitar. I have a Zuwei TL Custom that is built like this, but it still needs a few refinements. In my personal opinion, nothing sounds better than a Telecaster with Filter-Tron pickups!
