I'm so glad they expanded the size offerings in the Neusonic this year. The new flat black finish looks great, and 14" deep kicks are a welcome addition. Now they just need to offer a 14/16/18/26 setup like they used to in the Centennials...

Have you ever tried using packaging foam peanuts in your kick. It works pretty good too. I have a friend that used them in his bass drum and it sounded amazing. It look like popcorn popping in his bass drum with a clear head on the front. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Terry! What do you think of the kit? Also is there a difference between a 24 and 26?
@bonzoleum Жыл бұрын
I love the kit! There is a difference for open Bonham tuning as a 26" simply has more surface area than a 24". I really like both.

First time I heard of using newspaper was was about 20 years ago when Bobby Chiasson, proprietor of Jollity Drum farm swore by it. He also preferred coated ambassadors on both sides of old rooms. I know Bonham tended to use coated Emperors both sides. BTW I love the old Tama Camcorder line. Wish I had one of the limited runElvin Jones kits

Got the idea from Terry, but then made the mistake of crumpling up each strip for some odd reason, it still sounds ok, also i add foam shipping packing, you can bunch it up too, and its really thin.

Another highly enjoyable video. I wish you had spent a minute trying to get the drum to sound good without the newspaper. It sounded flappy initially and I'm not sure how much of the improvement was from the newspaper and how much was tuning. The drum does sound great when you are done though. Have you ever explained where the expressions " . . . is the puppet master" comes from?

I understand Bonham didn't use muffling, or a port, but Plant might have lined his bd with foil?Is that right?
@bonzoleum2 жыл бұрын
It is said that Bonham lined his bass drum at one time or another with tin foil. Bonham though did use muffling: on his bassdrum and his snare.

This really helps with the overtones on mine! I actually did it after hearing you talk about it in a video a couple of years ago, great stuff! I think there was a photo in which you could kinda see the newspaper inside a bass drum and you showed it in the video? Did I dream about this, Terry?
@bonzoleum2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pedro- yes, there's a photo from Olympic that shows what seems to be newspaper in in Bonham's thermo kit!

For heart burn try one teaspoon of Brags Organic apple cider vinegar, you can chase with a little bit of water or mix with just a tiny bit of honey. It is kind of like fighting fire with fire. I was told it was two acids make a base and they neutralize each other, I don't know chemistry but it makes for a good story, and it is effective.

I read that to get that authentic Bonham kick sound, you need cut (not torn) strips of newspaper 2" wide from pages 3-8 of the London Times financial section dated June 17, 1968. Otherwise, it won't muffle correctly. The Bromley News Shopper and others will come close, but DO NOT USE the Evening Standard.....they use a different font that negatively affects the attack of the beater, particularly wood beaters.

Yes, and soy ink gives it a drier tone!

Terry, great examples of songs that are recorded different you discussed was cool the one that always stuck out in my head is one of my favorite movies is a teenager going to the midnight shows to watch it over and over was the Warriors. But the song from Joe Walsh called "in the city" that plays at the end is different from the album version and to me the song from the actual movie or that version of it just feels grittier and I always liked it better. That look between Swan and Mercy is timeless and haunting. Perfect ending, perfect song. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nsx8icKZuNDDpXk.html
