Putting on Jeans with a Prosthetic Leg

This is a pain in the ass more than anything, so this video is just to show some simple techniques to putting jeans onto a prosthetic leg. Also, I thought it would be cool to address the issue of my remaining mobility.

Yeah that was one of the reasons I started making videos... because no one taught me anything of actual use. So I figured as I learned stuff I would pass it on to other amputees who might still be trying to learn it.

I'm about 2 months into my leg prosthetic and just searched for "how to put on pants over a prosthetic leg" because I also was never taught. I had no clue. I'm so grateful for your videos and appreciate you.

Yes I do. I lost it in an industrial accident and so I feel my foot and leg getting crushed on a regular basis.

I am so impressed with how well you can stand on one foot! I keep trying, and.. maybe 5 seconds?? 😅 you are a PRO! My husband lost his leg long story but he still ONLY wears pajamas! I think he's going to need special pant legs. Anyway whatever you're doing to be able to balance, keep it up! Respect!!!

Listened to your 911 call and I just wanted to hug you in that moment. You handled it like an absolute boss. I probably would have just froze up. I love that you took the opportunity to reach out to other amputees. And make info videos. Keep up the good work

Good deal!! I get my leg Tuesday and was wondering how in the heck I was going to get jeans over my leg and foot lol. And there it is, just do it backwards!!!!

@SkullXII haha I didn't even realize I said trousers.. I have no idea why I said it. I just watched almost the entire video trying to hear it because I was like, "No one said trousers in the comments and when the hell did I say trousers in the video?" Of course, I couldn't have said it in the beginning of the vid, no I had to wait til 6 mintues in to say it lol.

Same with me. Im a LBK and i left the hospital knowing jack about any of this. I even had to learn to get in and out of a chair on my own. But with the help of my family, prosthetic techs and folks like you Im up and about pretty much as I was before. Thanks for the info you give on here.

yeah i have figured out some other ways as well since i made this video, but anythinng beats having to wear shorts or sweatpants all day

plus its good to leave your jeans on your leg in case you have to get up in the night for a emergency etc.

I usually have my shoes off in the house (I live up north where we have snow, mud etc. on our shoes). To put my jeans on I stick my arm in the bottom of my jeans reaching up through to the top. Then I grab the toes of my prosthesis and pull them through. The top of my prosthesis is too big to slip pants over the top easily. Like your method the pants go on the leg before the leg goes on me. :-)

You need a seamstress. Get in touch mith me. Im sure my mom which does all kind of alterations would be please to help. I'll cover the charges what so ever if there are any. Keep the good job man.

As far as adding socks.... I either do as you do and find a private place to do leg maintenance or I wear pants with zip off legs. I have been an amputee 18 months so I rarely have to add socks during the day now. My first 9 months or so i was adding all day. The zip offs worked awesome. Shorts for the win!!!!

You would think my balance would continue to get better and better until I reached superhuman levels, but unfortunately I sometimes feel like it’s actually gone down a tiny bit

I sewed some zippers in a pair of jeans on the inseam so my double amputee boyfriend can put them on. Hopefully it works.

These skinny jeans make it even more difficult to get a leg prosthesis on. I wear boot cut jeans which has a slight flare that makes it easier.

Absolutely. My newer videos are more Vlog style, but there are a few amputee videos scattered throughout. All of my older videos might be very helpful to you though.

I'm not joking , I used to actually woke with a guy named John , he has 1 leg and 1 arm ... John was always coming to work without his work key and we'd say " hey " John were are the keys and he'd always say they're st home in my other leg , never thought that that's probably why they were still in his Jeans lol .... Lost contact with him but he was so cool !!!!

I'm an AK I put a zipper in the leg of my jeans along the inside seam - the zipper goes past my knee - I put put on my liner then my jeans then the prosthetic close the zipper and I'm done....but most of the time I just wear shorts.

Gary Roadkill I have yet to have any zippers installed. That would be a big help though I'm sure.

well, probably too late: If possible avoid it. If you can't avoid it anymore, brace yourself for months of discomfort, frustration and PAIN. Use painkillers liberally, don't be stingy, don't try to "suck it up", as this may lead to persistent phantom pain for the rest of your life. Don't concern yourself with prosthetics too much at this stage, it will be months until you can make proper use of them and you don't even know yet what socket system will fit you best. Once you're at a stage where you can reason about how to put on your jeans the most convenient way, here's a hint from my own experience: My jeans now all have zippers down the whole right pant leg. Split the zipper all the way up, put on jeans no matter if you have your prosthetic on or not. You can don the leg before or after, doesn't matter, and finally just close the zipper down. Thats it - most convenient way.

i do it the other way put my good leg in the jeans and put boot on then put the metal leg in the jeans and then put boot on then I put leg on and then pull into the socket.

Converse and jeans are the only way to go really. There's no other choice.

if it's warm you should wear shorts it's much too warm to wear pants I hate wearing pants when its warm

John, did you have this girlfriend at the time of your accident because i noticed you thought of your mom and step dad when you we're in the phone with 911 but no mention of a girlfriend. I'm just curious because if I was your girlfriend at that time and my boyfriend didn't think if me id be very hurt but of coarse I would understand you were in a terrible predicament at the moment and focus and think about you but after everything kinda died down I would probably think back and be like dam he didn't even love me enough to ask the dispatchers to tell me he loved me too waaahh hahhh 😭

What if you unbuttoned your pants and rolled it up from there? It'd probably be easier but I don't know. Also do you say this beats having to wear baggy pants just to accomodate? You keep your fucking swag on Or call a seamstress, like the dude in the comments here offering to do it for free
