Fill and sand, fill and sand, fill and sand. That’s boat building in a nutshell!. You’re a machine Mr Luke, it’s good to see your boat back in the water where it should be. Don’t be too harsh on yourself and your eyeballs. I’m 20 years your junior and I’ve just finished pulling part a 40 year old 5m power catamaran as my new project. Days like today I’m feeling about your age!. Now I just need to rebuild the damn thing………

Hey Mr Barry glad to see your enjoying your retirement love the videos I did a similar project like this few years back for my friend on his shrimp boat, built a new cabin and redid all the wiring on the boat it was fun and great for rehabbing from neck surgery

I wish I had a shop still like yours. When I moved I left or sold off all of my tools and now I’m building a boat without tools I have needed. I really enjoy your videos because we have the same style DIY mindset!

Hey Barry for fairing spray a light coat of black paint and sand it off where theres still black paint you have a hole. You can actually buy guide coat but a cheap rattle can works great too.

Put a set of Bennett trim tabs on the transom. When you want to jump up on plane from a dead stop just dump those trim tabs all the way down into the water, jump on that throttle and you will be instantly on flat plane. From there just start raising the tabs up and you will wonder why you never had them. PS, GET hydraulic trim tabs not the cheap spring loaded ones. BOAT LOOKS FANTASTIC ‼️ ‼️. Vinny 🇺🇸 NEW SUBSCRIBER

I think in my more than sixty years of running boats of all sizes and power plants that that is right about on the mark for mileage. I am sure you will be fine tuning and you may approach four miles per gallon which would be quite good for an outboard planing hull of that length.

The 5.5 inches you moved the engine forward will raise the back up considerably, less cantilever. And less bobbing.

Yes indeed!

The way your boat sat in the water when you launched it looked much better! The combination of shortening the bracket and adding a floaty did the trick. Now just solve your cavitation issue and tweak to remedy the scupper problem (maybe add a little weight upfront somehow) and I would say job done. But then, is a boat ever really done? I’m always looking for a way to modify my old 16.5 foot whaler. Have fun, that’s what’s important

Wow, beautiful! I have a similar boat I'd love to do this to. Any rough idea of the material cost you put into the project, excluding the original boat, and engine costs?
@barrylukebuilds78943 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Cost, not sure as I purposely did not keep track but it was a lot. 55 gallons or resin, 1 sheet Cossa $800 4 sheets Divinicell $600 Can’t get out of Home Depot for less than $40. Anyway, total rebuilds not for the faint of heart! Barry

So your sweet spot for economy cruising is around 4K rpm, I believe that’s typical. The ETECs are as good as anything on fuel economy 😁. Did you have the motor trimmed right on acceleration? Trim it down some more and try it. It will not accelerate properly if the motor is trimmed up too much. When on plane since you have a mpg feature, play with motor trim to get the best speed / mpg at say 4K rpm. Looks good 👍. By the way, how does your new bracket setup compare to the 1 in. rise per 1 ft back recommendation?
@barrylukebuilds78943 жыл бұрын
Robert Agree with all. The motor in the center hole is a bit higher that the recommended height which is why I plan on dropping it a little. PS the Etec G2 models have an automatic trim feature where all of the trim adjustments are orchestrated by the engine computer. I will need a few running hours before I can tell if I like this or not. Barry
