Putting Together a New Small Church Stage Design

What do you think of our new stage design? 🤔
What do you think of having the church sanctuary dark? 🤷🏼
What do you think about me letting my dog run loose in the sanctuary? 😂
Also, if you were wondering how we put this stage design together here are some of the details.

The cross is 12" wide. And we just hung the panels to be level and give as close to an even positioning between one another as possible.

That backdrop is sick, love the negative space cross. Personally, I don't mind having the sanctuary dark - and most churches that I've been a part of have kept the house lights off during worship (and then usually it's a little brighter for the rest of the service)

Hey, I appreciate that Everitt. And I can definitely work with that type of situation (off, then on) even if it's not full brightness. Enough light for me to use my Bible and I'm good to go. 😁

That looks so dope! I do like a darker setup during worship but I definitely need the lights to read and take notes during service. The backdrop came out awesome! Looks really good!

Looks great Joshua. I'm a big fan of using negative space creatively. I missed the poll but we have lights down for worship and up for preaching.

Thanks brother. Yeah, I like negative space designs. Funny part was we have a piece of art our hallway that has a cross in the negative space. That's what sparked the idea for me.

The negative space cross looks great man. I actually couldn't tell you if our house lights are on or off during the singing, we have a good bit of natural light from the windows.

Thanks Wayne. And yeah, there are lots of churches that do have natural lighting coming in as well. We do have a couple small windows with mini blinds over them, but some light still creeps in.

It’s so great seeing you on the regular again. 🙌 And our lights don’t have a switch or a dimmer… it’s all controlled by a panel in the hallway 🤦🏼‍♂️ makes it harder to change mid service

And it's so good to be seen again. I've missed being out here on the regular. And I can empathize with that. Our lights are on two ends of the church, so Micah is our "switch". 😁

Saw the same article the other day I think.... We dim the lights during worship to remove distractions, hoping people aren't looking around and getting distracted if they are the only ones singing or not... sitting in the back for years and seeing everything from the sound booth, people are all over the place. We bring them up during the message to read and take notes. definitely like the design. That dark wall and white anything you put up there gives you plenty of options for sure. Where did you get the sound panels? I am in the middle of making a bunch for our sanctuary, getting close to finishing them up to get the rest on the walls. I saw the post on your story the other day and thought they were ceiling tiles to start with. look good either way though.

Totally understand the distraction aspect. It's one of the big reasons I want my family sitting in the front. We got our sound panels used from a church that was closing down, but I was about ready to just buy some from Amazon just before we found these.

@@JoshuaVerwers Were you needing sound deadening or were they purely aesthetic? I didn't see floor wedges but that setup would be great for killing the sound coming out of the monitors. We needed sound treatment bad (old gym with nothing to absorb sound other then people and chairs) and wound up going back and forth on size vs aesthetics... but the panels are out on the sides of the sanctuary to help catch the primary reflection hopefully.

@@johnhayes81 mostly aesthetics and just using what we had lying around. Although, I'm usually there in the front and my voice carries very well and is aimed that direction, so it may help with that as well. 😂

Nice work! Has anyone pushed back on you calling it a "stage"? If I have the lights off in my office my secretary will always say something about hiding in the darkness or doing something sinister (even though there's plenty of light coming in from the windows).

I haven't had anyone push back, but there have been some over the years that purposefully say "platform" instead of "stage". And I'm gonna keep that sinister comment in my back pocket, because my kids love sitting in the dark around the house. 🤣

🤣 You're not wrong. I am a preacher after all. But I get what you're saying. When I make a follow-up of a new stage design, I'll leave a time stamp so people can skip past my monologues.
